I think it should be posted officially that mobile versions of the cards (9600m 320m etc) are currently incompatible with minimum system requirements for the game in OSX. In Steam and in Gamers Gate where I purchased my copy.
I think it is important to note "in OSX" since the game runs fine with the same video cards in bootcamp.
Since I bought this for use on my laptop with OSX I feel a little like i've been mislead. Sure, I can use it in bootcamp, which I have installed on one of my laptops. But that isn't why I chose to buy the game. I also bought Civ V so I could play it on Mac OSX and didn't realise until too late that ASPYR haven't even ported the modding functionality and have no intention to.

I'm happy that they are looking at making a version that scales to OSX and i'm not going to be campaigning for my money back but I am a little snarky that people are pointing the fingers at us for looking at system requirements that in no way warned us this game would not work on our mac laptops.

Just got the game for Mac, I ran it on a bootcamp-like system on the same computer, and it was fine. Now that I'm running on the Mac OS itself, there's a lot of flickering with flags and soldiers and councillors, and this is slowing down the game to the point where it's unplayable. I can tell that it's really only the flickering that's causing the lag because zoomed out to a point were I can't see soldiers, councillors, cities (flickery stuff) it's much, much, much less laggy.

My computer can run the game while at the same time running a second OS, but can't run it without going through that hurdle? There must be some solution to this that doesn't involve buying a better Mac (not going to happen). My video card is an NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M. I feel a little ripped off, buying the game just to have it flicker to death. I suppose I should have read the requirements more carefully.

Can this problem be fixed?

The minimum GeForce card for the game is a 320; your 330 is barely above that but being an "m" version is of course much less powerful. All I can suggest for the time being is to try turning off draw_trees in settings.txt , and/or use the low graphics mods.

FYI using Bootcamp is not running two OSs at once, you are only running Windows. That's why a reboot is necessary.

I'll have to try the low graphics mods. Does Paradox have a patch in mind for Mac users? Maybe they can simply remove the 3d models of the map edge, counsellors, levies, cities, replace them with 2d models. It'll look worse, but I don't play CK2 for how pretty it looks. I don't know anything about coding, I admit, so I really don't know if this will even do anything.

I suppose my graphics card is rather low end for the game - are there any Mac users who have sufficient video cards to not have to suffer through flickery death and terrible lag, at this point?

On the subject of not running two OSs at once, I used Parallels, not Bootcamp (should of, but didn't hahah). So it really was two OSs at once. I could split my screen in half and do Mac stuff and PC stuff at once. Fun, but slowed everything down a bit.

We are working on a patch to fix the flickering issues and lower the graphics requirements on mac. It did not make 1.06 unfortunately, but we hope to get it ready in time for the next patch.

I'm having a problem with flickering graphics on a Dell. I wasn't having any problems running the game about a month ago. Will the patch help me also?

is there an ETA on the next patch, would love to play this but i cant play with the flickering, bound to give me a stroke or something
I am absolutely dying to play this game. I have been a fan of the Total War series, but Paradox's style of more detailed games takes the cake. They are genius. Now if only they had the ability to fix an isolated graphics issue...

We have reports that Mountain Lion (10.8) fixes the flickering problem, if that's what you're seeing. Presumably it comes with an updated video driver.

Just wanted to say, that just because Apple upgraded their system and this seems to apparently fix the flickering issue, (although reports in other threads seems to say that it also causes kernal panics and crashes) that this doesn't let Paradox off the hook with a fix for older systems.
I will not be upgrading just to make one game work. I use my computer for work and use software which (quite rightly) doesn't support Mountain Lion yet. I am quite fed-up, I got a VERY unapologetic and vague response from my email to Paradox support, I will definitely not be purchasing any other Paradox games and I've deleted CK2 from my computer.

I'm screwed on both sides on the Mac.

On the Mac side I'm running Snow Leopard I think (I forget off hand...) and the game loads but of course has horrible graphic corruption, and no Sword of Islam expansion.

Then when I boot XP I have all the goodies, but I have the horrible flashing border problem, and I'm rather sick of seeing "update your graphics driver" as a solution when, as you all know, you can't just do that on Bootcamp running Windows. And lord knows I've tried! Either screws up the system entirely, or flat out goes "There's no hardware".

I'm getting very angry about this as despite having several systems, my desktop is the only one that runs CK2 without issue. It's the perfect game for the Mac on either OS so I can just sit on my couch and play.

Would be nice if six months into release I could.

Mac version was released in May so it has been out only four months and the windows version works find when you have up to date drivers. All games will have problems with systems that has old drivers.

All games? Don't talk wet. This is the ONLY title there is a problem with. My Mac runs everything else just fine. In both OSX (where available) and Windows. I've got 400 games in Steam, 85 of which have Mac versions and CK2 is the ONLY title that has any sort of issues, and that's across BOTH OS's, so please don't talk absolute nonsense.

And as I pointed out, upgrading the drivers isn't that simple, which you completely ignored me saying it would appear.

As for the rest of what I said, you're not worth it.

I don't really know why you had to be disrespectable. What did you really accomplish with it?

Also about the drivers you can try to run some games with older drivers they might work but no where near than they might work with newer ones. Claiming that old drivers don't effect a newer game is not really anyway right as a game might not run with the old one at all. I have had those experiences few times.
