Drones and shuttles seem to prioritize the storage, emptying all the normal depots placed near domes, to fill the storage's up, and between crop harvests, every single dome 'starves' - all due to the bottleneck that is the damn storage's (they output resource so slowly that you cannot get food where its needed fast enough... the bottleneck exists for all resources, but food is the one resource that might take 4-10 days between 'harvests'

How can I prevent the shuttles/drones from completely vacuuming all depots and trying to stuff it all into the storage, when not needed, or how do u destroy a damned storage so I can get the food back(its just too tedious and hassle to sit there and click once every 10 seconds to get 5 food)

Feels very dumb that I have close to 8000 food packed away, yet every single depot is empty.

A few answers :
- put your food depots right to your dome doors, so your drones will empty food faster from production and take food faster for supply
- don't do universal depots and if you do disable the food everywhere food is not needed
- increase the number of your drones (never have a heavy workload on a drone hub) and the number of your drones hubs if necessary
- increase to 3 the priority of restaurants/groceries

Hi, AtmaDarkwolf! Thank you for pointing out this issue.

We're aware that there're issues with the Food distribution in the game and we're currently in discussion what should be done about these.

For the time being, my best suggestion would be: Try to have at least 1 Grocery and 1 Diner per every 50 Colonists. They will maintain their inner storages of Food by requesting Food from all storages/depots on the map (as long as you have Shuttles to deliver it).

I think it would go a long way if storage wasn't this binary choice of either accepting stuff or not. Instead it could be a slider, similar to drone service range, but that lets you select how many units of a resource would be the limit it accepts.

Right now, even if we attempt to micro-manage storage it just means drones and shuttles will undo all that work.

Some extra research to improve grocery/diner beyond its meager 5 units of storage would also be awesome.

I never noticed this Issue.
I always place all food storage right next to the domes and have always a drone hub or two right next to the domes as well. I saw a video on youtube where it said this was a good thing.

I think depots should be 1st priority, and storages should be 2nd priority. By that I mean the drones should put resources onto existing depots first, and when they are all full, then put resources into storages. Right now the drones appear to just stuff the resources into the storages when there's some low minimum on the depots, which makes it difficult for me to max out a depot for later use. Also, trying to load out a transport from a storage is painful - the transport won't wait for the storage to bring out 45 units 5-at-a-time. So in order to make a food-run to a distant dome with a transport, I've got to continually click on the transport, then click on the storage to load 5, then click to de-select the transport, and then repeat the cycle until I've got 45 units loaded. (Granted, I think there's a bug in that cycle. Once the transport is selected, I should be allowed to just continue clicking on the storage until it's full, but that doesn't work right now.)

Besides making the depots be the first to fill up, then using the storages to store extra, a slider could be used as mentioned above. The slider could do different things. Such as:
  • Let us adjust how much of that resource is in depots before storing it
  • Let us adjust how much of that resource per depot is out there before storing it
  • Let us adjust how much to leave in the entrance before storing it or unstoring it
Or a combination thereof.
