Chapter 1; The Roar of the Lion:
Windsor Castle, 10th January 1936:
Despite the set backs that Edward has been faced with, the incompetency of some of his father's cabinet, particularly the head of intelligence had lead to his bad humour, until this morning when he met with Oswald Mosley, Mosley and his friend, a young Lieutenant General with the army one....Montgomery...had arrived to talk strategy and in particular to talk about the directions which Edward could take the country to make England great. Mosley and Montgomery had waxed lyrical to him about how the home isles should be secured first before any endeavours in the world at large and Edward was inclined to agree.
Annoyingly however he was still constrained with the limit that was his chief of staff, the elderly Sir Archibald Montgomery-Massingberd. Shuffling some papers as the Field Marshal was shown in and guided to his seat, leaning rather heavily upon an ornately carved cane. Sitting the older man looked at the young King with his irritation showing plainly upon his face. Holding his cane rigidly across his lap he waited restlessly as Edward proceeded to force him to wait on his pleasure. After nearly three full minutes, the King looked up and smiled widely.
"Ah, my Chief of the General Staff is here at last! I must say Archie, may I call you Archie? Of course I can I am the King! Anyway, as I was saying, I have called you here to inform you of how England shall start on her journey to greatness. I thought it only good manners to at least inform you of my plans before I put them into affect. As I was saying, we are going to secure for England the British Isles. While I am in fact unsure whether we shall just subdue the Scottish and the Irish as vassals or indeed just take their independence so as to strengthen my realm."
Archibald near spluttered with indignation, who was this young.....upstart to tell him, he who had been serving in the Royal Army for over 40 years, before this man before him was even born. He was however his king, and he had little choice, he could detect the sent of Mosley hanging about this idea, the man had always been a xenophobe and his Maximists had been kicking up a furore in parliament recently as to them being evil and being totally despicable and similar. Hanging his head slightly, he just nodded in ascent and made his slow way back out of the room.
