Chapter 1
British Parliament , London
Backbencher MP John Turner was conservative mp for Bournemouth. He Wrote his diary on events between 1936-1948

1st February 1936
"Gentlemen we are now posed with a new challenge to world peace, The Germans , Beaten in 1919 have bounced back with a new leader and new resolve. Herr Hitlers intentions are as of yet unknown or are unknown to us , The western Allies. For Gentlemen last night German Troops entered Vienna and annexed Austria" Baldwin looked around and sat down

Chamberlain rose
"With this in mind we have decided that in order to defend not only our homeland but the homelands of France,Belgium,Luxembourg and Holland if needed a massive expansion of the armed forces is needed to provide even the smallest force for continental europe" Our Navy is already in a good position. Unlike its army Germany's Navy is poor and should war come about a British Task force could easily destroy these ships" Rumours of a feared German Airforce were confirmed last November , Therefore i have decided that expansion of the Army and Air Force shall take priority" Chamberlain sat down and up stood Clement Atlee.

I agree with what the Chancellor has said about re arming. However we are a naval nation. If the worst comes to the worst it will be our Navy that prevents invasion. Such Disregard for the Navy is shocking

A couple more speeches were made before parliament ajourned and everyone left. Baldwin got in his car and was driven to Heston where he boarded a plain for Paris. Grand Strategy was to take place at this meeting however a new event would occur to change the mood of this meeting.....

Chapter 2
Paris,France

Baldwin and his advisors sat down with the French Premier. On his way over Baldwin had learnt that the Germans had gone east and were demanding the German speaking area of czechoslovakia . Baldwin's first reaction was to wait for the French reaction so he was suprised when he sat down with the Premier

"What do you mean nothing?"
"My country is not prepared for war"
"NOT prepared! you have over 40 divisions in France alone you could stop the German imperialists!"
"we are not prepared to commit French troops after the terror of 1914-1918"

Baldwin sighed, he sat back down and thought for a while. But before he could say anything the French Premier butted in
We could go to Berlin for peace talks.....
Baldwin knew it wouldnt work and told them it would be out of the question.

After a quick break the French Demanded to know the position the British Millitay was in.
Eden got out a report and started to read
We have in Europe a total of 5 Divisions, Mostly infantry. In Middle East Command we have 3 divisions plus the Iraqi Divisions. Our Navy is large in most area's.

The French then announced they were withdrawing from Indo-China 3 divisions to support them in North Africa. When asked about the Japanese they responded
They couldnt invade us not with our superior technology

Baldwin left the meeting with a sad impression of what Europe would be like due to the French arrogance and went back to London to decide the future re armament.
