Hm, towards the end of the war I actually find Italy in the east to be a problem - they usually manage to keep up MP by then; though anything before that they're really just cannon fodder.

Yeah, Italy has a pretty solid MP base, but the most important part of it is their relatively crappy IC. With crappy IC and a need to build a fleet, Italy isn't able to build a huge army, but by '43 or '44, if you haven't steamrolled the Eastern Front Italy has had solid practicals and the best laws for quite a few years, and have a decent force that isn't MP depleted. If both the Soviets and the Germans are scraping the bottom of the MP barrel by then, the Italians are able to hold large portions of the line on their own just by having full strength units. It's never been a real problem in any of my Soviet games, but I've never played them without firing The Purge, with the exception of my very first game, when I got steamrolled by the Germans.

Hopefully, the British and Americans will take care of Italy for me.
Also, on the note of crappy IC, the 25% Hard Mode boost will offset that a bit, so Italy might actually manage to be something of a nuisance. The game is shaping up to look pretty difficult, the Luftwaffe is even larger than the VVS, too. When I can finally fire up Total Economic Mobilization, that'll give my production the edge, but it might take two years for the tide to turn. Assuming I hold my own through '41 and the Stalin Line doesn't fall. My quality is comparable to the Germans, but quantity is only slightly greater - count Italy, and it becomes roughly equal.

Victory For The Workers!

After the fascists had bitten off more than they could chew, a sudden, inspired counteroffensive by the forces of the Republic drove them back to Burgos and reopened the lifeline to Barcelona. Throughout July, Burgos changed hands repeatedly, and the Valencia Pocket continued to exist as well - the primary effort seemed to fall towards destroying the fascist enclave around Cadiz. August and Septmeber were slow months in Spain, as the inevitable approached, slowly and surely. Elsewhere, events were more exciting, such as the deployment of 300 new fighters and the Japanese barreling through Chinese line after Chinese line.

It was in October that the Fascist forces aroud Cadiz were finished, halved and pushed against the coast on the 6th. The troops around Valencia had fallen apart, and within a week there was no peripheral front to speak of. All that was left was to crush the final holdouts in the north of the country.

It took some time for the reinforcements from other fronts to arrive, but soon they did and the outnumbered, outgunned fascists were being driven back across the front. It took three weeks, but then the enemies of the workers were forced to surrender. Although this Spain aligned more towards France and England than the Soviet Union, our agents would fix this by the time of the 1940 election.

Now the trick is to get Spain into Comintern or at least protected before France is overrun by the Germans.

I think it can be done easily enough. And as long as Spain isn't Allied, Germany shouldn't attack them, right?

I am pretty sure the Spanish joined the Allies after being attacked in my game, but that might just be HPP.

HPP has a much more flexible diplomatic AI than vanilla. I've only ever seen one non-scripted DoW in vanilla, Nationalist Spain declaring war on my Italy to regain core territories. In an HPP AAR, I've seen Italy declare war on a victorious Republican Spain.

Due to real life problems that I might go into more detail on later, I won't be able to update the AAR's for awhile. How long, I don't know, it could be a day, a week, or a month. See you all when it's sorted out though.

Hmm, I'll be interested to see how a nice Stalin works out.

@hoi4 - I've heard these "the troops will be in your home by Christmas" tales before.
@Hawke - Best whate'er other foes ye face.

Subbed!

@Hawke0 :Take all the time you need. The Real world is more important than an AAR. Hopefully this will end before HOIIV comes out.......but if not no matter.
It's not even important real world issues, just a few difficult individuals, so to speak.

^
No doubt HoIIV will be a buggy mess when it comes out for the first few weeks anyway so there's still some more time for you :p
Only the first few weeks? I have at least a month or two.

could we get a status report _?
Internet access is inconsistent due to the 'hosts' I've moved in with.

I'll see what can be done.

This looks quite interesting so I'll be tagging along for the ride.

Welcome aboard, both of you.

Subbed to both of your AARs, I love both of them, keep it up.
