Forced into Axis ?

Hello, playing Armageddon 1.2. Playing as Finland and am about to go to war with Norway. Dates April 3rd 1939 and just as i was about to declare war on my Scandanavian neighbours France declares war on Germany ?? Strange as when i played DD they never did that and Germany always declares war on Poland on september 3rd 39. Anyway i still declared war on Norway sent in my airforce and army, after about 1 day UK declares war on me and then i`m automaticaly in the Axis fighting alongside Germany ?? No notification or request to join from Germany it just did it on its own ? Is this a bug or some weird way of the game autopiloting alliances ? I was going to allie with Germany when they start Barbarossa but as i like to roleplay, this entrance into the Axis could screw that up when Russia kick of with Finland in winter 40. SO i just wondered if this was an event that other players had experienced or a bug and if there was some way to keep the dates fairly real to history, i know i could just leave Axis but it still knocks the game out of line somehow. Thanks for any tips.
 
As far as I can gather looking at the event files, Germany will not get the "Danzig or war" event if they're already at war, so there is a chance that Germany won't declare war on Poland. And if Poland still exists, the USSR will not get the Finnish Winter War event. So there is a chance you're not completely screwed yet.:)
 
the most probable reason:

France guaranteed independence of Norway, and when you DoWed Norway, France had shifted its slider toward Interventionism and belligerence threshold for attacking Germany had became lower.
 
mm could be because i had "Democracy can declare war" as well ? BTW is the whole of history messed up in Armageddon as Poland just declared war on germany (sry this is a Sweden game) in september 38 and Russia declared war on Germany in November 38 ?? Whats going on !!

Yes. Don't expect an even remotely historical game if you enable that option.

Re: being forced into a faction... whenever a minor country (ie: Finland) is attacked by a major alliance (such as the Allies) which is already at war with another major alliance (the Axis), then the minor will immediately and automatically join the major alliance that opposes its attacker.
 
I wonder what happens... If I declare war as Germany to Brazil in 1942, so that I am at war with allies and commies, and Brazil has a left wing radical or even leninist government...
I bet Brazil won't join the comintern! Why is that?

edit= same as Rep.Spain?

I'm pretty sure they *would* actually join the comintern if their government is closer to the USSRs than Great Britains.
