Dear Friends,

I just downloaded the 1.09 patch and it seems to be working well save for one small issue. During a GC while playing England, the AI forced 5 loans on me in about an six or eight month period. I am usually one not to mind the pop-up hell this game presents at times so I figured when it happened the first time, it was my fault. However the other four came in fairly rapid sucession during a nasty war with France, and it forced me into bankrupcy. Did I do something wrong? Please help.

Cam

KE3,

If I am not mistaken, Savoie offered a peace with some minimal ducat amount going to them. But I cannot remember at what point during the war this happened. What effect would that have had?

Thank you for the quick response,
Cam

EU will force human players to take loans to pay the money demanded in peace treaties if there isn't enough in the treasury. So, if Savoy offered peace of, say, 56d (your entire treasury), and you bought infantry to the tune of, say, 30d, that would leave you with 26d. If you then accepted peace with Savoy under the terms they offered, you would be forced to pay the 56d, requiring a loan to pay (since you only have 26d -- you need another 30).

Thank you, friend. That does make sense, but I know that didn't happen four other times. I am going to resume this GC and see what other info I can glean. :)

It could be because of the nasty war with France. If a lot of your provinces are looted, you may not even have enough money coming in to cover your costs. The game engine will dock your research automatically to stop you going below 0 in the treasury, but if spending nothing on research still won't avoid this, you are forced into a loan.

Seems very unlikely that you could spend 800 ducats inside a year without knowing about it, though. You don't have a navy of thirteen million ships, do you? :D

I think its a bug.

It has happened occasionally to us in multiplayer. Once i even had 7-8 loans. We had to go back to an earlier savegame at which the problem disappeared.

The problem did not crop again last night. I didn't even consider the French looting provinces and they were administering all kinds of meanness to England's south shore.

Hehehe. No, because the French were pretty much having their way with me. Or Liz.:) If it is a bug I think I will taking Martinov's suggestion and go back to the last autosave before these raids in the treasury.

Thank you again, all of you. :)
