At the start of the game forts are really strong and can delay an advancing army for a very long time.
Later on, when every small tribe has huge siege modifiers, they get overrun within the first or second tick.
When siege modifiers grow to 7, 8 or 9 it's not possible to even this out by increasing the fort level as every level costs maintainance for a full fort and only counters one single siege modifier.

How would it be if the fort strength would be the square of the fort level?
So lvl 1 has 1 strength
lvl 2 has 4 strength
lvl 3 has 9 strength and so on...

This way it could make sence to incease the fort level as it could keep up with the siege modifiers at a high cost of maintanance.

Would level 4 or 5 get to strong? Could take 5-10 years until they fall...
Would someone even pay so much maintanance to secure a singel spot?
Would a lvl 2 be to strong early game?

Please give me some feedback if this is a good or bad idea.
