Fortress settings

In the 1492.inc file (and others) some cities have their fortresses set like this:

fortress = { size = 1.000000 }

Others have a longer definition which includes a date, usually 1. june 1520. What's the effect of that?

I'm not sure but it may be either: a trigger or: a reference date used by some scenario other than 1492?

I have no clue either. This is one of those mysteries I still have to figure out...
