Map_676_game.png -- Sent from Fast notepad

Hello and welcome to my first real attempt at a forum game! This game is set in ancient times (after Bronze Age Collapse, before the rise of Rome OTL) as various city-states try to forge empires or otherwise make their way through time while surronded by lesser NPC tribes to conquer, enslave, trade, or otherwise interact with.

This game will have simplified statistics. These statistics are a general score and do not have a specific meaning. Every city-state will start with the same statistics and develop from there:

Population: 5
Land: 5
Trade: 5
Army: 5
Navy: 5

Each turn will take place over a period of 10 years, although from time to time other lengths may be used. Each city-state will start with one order per turn, although this too may change depending on future developments in-game.

Orders will work a little differently this game. Players will PM their orders like usual. I will send a reply to the player showing the outcome of the order, and the player will then IC about this in the thread. (This IC doesn't strictly have to be from the city-state's leader's viewpoint. It could be, for example, from the prospective of a future historian, or an ancient historian, or a soldier, or a farmer, or a...)

Example:

Player sends me:
Send an expedition into the forests to the west of the city to subject the nearby tribes.

I send player:
Success!
(+2 population, +3 land, tribes directly to the west subjected.)
New stats:
Population: 7
Land: 8
Trade: 5
Army: 5
Navy: 5

Player in thread:
The period around the year 800 BC would see the city-state Cassianous expand into the tribes west of the city. These military campaigns would greatly increase the power of Cassianous by adding land and people to its growing nation.
-Excerpt from History of Cassianous, Vol 1, by Ford Crawford. Copyright 1978
(+2 population, +3 land, tribes directly to the west subjected.)
Population: 7
Land: 8
Trade: 5
Army: 5
Navy: 5

While a little barebones, this would be an acceptable order IC. It is hoped that this system will lead to more involvement from the players and help things go smoothly. I may sometimes write the results of an order myself if I deem it necessary (ie, if an order affects more than one player).

As for maps: I will make the maps. Players are allowed to make maps, but any map I make takes precedence. However, I will allow players to be creative in this matter and will generally only intervene in the case of powergaming. (No painting the whole map, no mountains of pure gold, etc.)

This game doesn't take place in our world, so be creative! Just keep in mind the general time period and theme. (Ancient times/classical period. Roman, Greek, Phoenician city-states.) Submit your own city-state with the following form:

Name:
Color: (for map purposes)
Location: (image nice, but not required)
Description:

I'll take about 10 players at start, and I might add more if that goes smoothly. IRC: #BCE

Name: Empire of Thaidios
Color: Yellow
Location: Large Island to the Northeast of the west continent.
Description: The most notable thing about the Empire is its people. The majority of them consist of either soldiers, farmers or fisherman, tradesmen, and merchants looking to trade their wares to the mainlanders. For the most part there is a large mixture of culture as many of the mainlanders tend to flee their homes for the relatively peaceful island of Rouen. The Emperor himself is really only selected from a hereditary family, descending from Auris the God of creation. There are other gods, but the one whom the royalty in particular pays tribute to is Auris. A council body exists although its power is relatively curbed by the Emperor himself.

Name: Myrkrian-Goranth Codependency
Color: Blue
Location: Those two islands off the Southern coast of the East Landmass
Description: The Codependency is comprised of two vastly different peoples. The tree-dwelling, democratic, blue-tattooed people of the eastern island of Myrkr and the ground-dwelling, hereditary leadership, hairless people of the western island of Gora. Since their proximity to each other encouraged cooperation and mutual development, they share the same pantheon of seven gods, currency, and language. Only recently did the two islands decide to unite their governments under one flag and one ruling body. The Council of Seven parrots their pantheon in build. The Myrkrian Council of Five elected by the elite of Myrkr and the Goranth Grand Pooh-Bah and his/her spouse rule over the Codependency by, well, council. The Grand Pooh-Bah has three votes and his/her spouse has two. In the event of a deadlock, the Goranth Pooh-Ba'al, heir to the throne, and the Myrkrian Chairman of One will confer in a private room until a decision is reached. Due to the closeness of the islands and cultures, there may be some Myrkrians living on Gora or vice-versa, but it is a rare sight.

Name: Republic of Pima
Color: Grey
Location:
pub

Description: A fishing city, Pima subsists on the bountiful fish it catches off its coast. Their dependance on the sea has lead directly to their worshipping of Tropon, god of seafaring, although many families within the city have their own personal gods and spirits they also pay tribute to. They also have a strong belief in democracy, and elect a counsel of three every three years to govern the city. They have also in recent years begun to trade more, exchanging their fish for resources such as metals like copper mined by near by tribes.

Name: City of Raam'al
Color: Purple
Location: Here
Description: A coastal city, its original viability came from its guardianship of numerous idols, whose sanctity inspired pilgrimage. From that came a bustling trade hub, as commerce arose to accommodate travelers, and political cohesion arose naturally from this. The primary force in the city lies in the hands of the merchants and the clergy of Raam, whose idol stands as the most sacred and respected. The city itself is named in the honor of Raam for Raam'al literally translates to Land of Raam.

Name: Hatusha
Color: Brown
jj.png
Description: As the crossroads between inland trade from the north to south, and vice versa, as well as commerce between eastern and western seas, Hatusha's existence came from its location as a center of trade between these trade routes. It worships the Thousand Gods, a set of diverse gods and goddesses, but worship comes mainly to Sarusha, the God of War, due to the warlike nature of the neighboring tribes and the need for protection, and to Tharhun, the god of trade.

Are sign ups still open?

Name: Ua Deaghaidh
Color: a shade of green that shows up against the background
Location: (image nice, but not required) between the two inland bodies of water on the western continent
Description: A tribal people of the Interior woodlands, the Ua Deaghaidh live in clans and practice agriculture and herding. They have no writing but have a rich oral tradition. Clans are lead by chiefs, and are bound together in an intricate and fluid system of patronage, tribute and family connections. The three most powerfull are styled as Kings, and lead their tribes as they see fit. But clans can change allegiance, and the authority of the Kings and chiefs is balanced by the learned Druids.

Accepted. Go ahead and send an order.

Order results sent. Deag gets a pass because he just joined, and one other player didn't submit an order. I may still accept an order from them if they send it in quickly.

All players are required now to post an IC about their order results (example in first post). These are due within a week of this post.

I would also like to clarify that all the city-states on the main sea should be considered within sailing distance of each other, although some naval improvement would greatly improve any such endeavors.

"The early years of the Pimians were rather unglorious, and certainly not befitting what would soon become the greatest state the world had ever seen. They had attempted to expand their trade with the tribes to the south, but the barbarians could not comprehend the wealth that they had the potential to gain by initiating close trade ties to the prestigious Pimian merchants who made the journey. Some small amount of trade did occur, but the foolish savages insisted that they had no need for fish as they had access to the ocean as well, so it was not nearly as much as the merchants who had set out hoped for." -The History of Pima, by Jiva Livinicus, official state historian of Pima for the years 700-680 BCE.
