If it's standard Aurora Terminology, I would expect that it is "Conventional Industry".

It's faster to research and build, and being the first to survey something means you can make political claims on it and target your other space assets better.
So don't discount the awesome power of the probe! ;-)
They don't call it a "space race" for nothing :p

Let's not forget that gauss cannons don't need a reactor to power them, and as kinetic weapons use a missile scientist, not an energy weapon scientist.
Railguns are kinetic weapons as well.

No idea why you'd want to turret microwaves btw, usually you want to be faster than anything with sensors to begin with..

edit: Turrets, for those who don't know, increase to-hit chances by increasing the tracking speed of the weapon. A non-turreted weapon will use the speed of the vessel it's mounted on for it's tracking speed. If the tracking speed of the weapon matches the speed of the target increasing the tracking speed with a turret has no effect on to-hit chances - it's maxed out already.

Microwaves destroy sensors. Missiles tend to not have sensors, so a microwave based anti-missile turret makes no sense. And against ships you usually want to be the faster party to begin with, otherwise you can't even close to firing distance..

Yeah, Gauss and Railguns are Kinetic Weapons.

And i want to know how with a probe you can make a claim if you not even visited the planet. Everyone with a ship with weapons can laugh at you. And believe me, it takes less than 5 years to build an armed ship.

Never talked about microwave anti-missile turrets, it's useless. However a mixed in Microwave cannon between mesons/lasers can do much damage, as there are few electronic system, it's easier to hit the fire control or active sensor, effectively nullifying the ship's firepower.

OOC:But can you like split a planet? Like have a bunch of countries on the same planet. I.E. like everyone colonizing Mars.

Treaty of Hangzhou

In order to assist in the development of our nations, the undersigned nations agree to the following:
  • The People's Republic of China will annually provide The South African Union with 100 tons of Corbomite.
  • The South African Union will annually provide The People's Republic of China with 15 tons of Neutronium, Corbomite, Tritanium, Boronide, Mercassium, Vendarite, Sorium, Corundium, and Gallicite

Anyway, i'll add a list of all the acronyms in the update, so everyone can understand them.
Your inbox is full :)

About research cooperation I'm going to be honest and say that the game will probably be more fun and balanced for everyone if neither of the 3 biggest (You, Me and China) cooperate closely with eachother.

Gonna clear it now. Forgot about the 8 messages with bakerydog.

However you're right, just wanted to know if you were of the same opinion :p

I'm probably going to send in orders tomorrow as I need to talk to the Fish about resource trading.

The Cheju Pact

Recognising the need to co-operate in this new and bountiful era, the undersigned nations agree to the following:

  • The People's Republic of China will give Trans-Newtonian Technology to The South African Union and The Republic of Turkey.
  • The People's Republic of China, The South African Union, and The Republic of Turkey shall form a combined research effort, to be called the Cheju Pact.
  • The Cheju Pact shall contain all the labs of each signatory nation.
  • The Cheju Pact shall develop the technologies recquired to construct Geological Survey Ships.
  • Upon the completion of said technologies, the undersigned nations will decide whether the Cheju Pact is to be dissolved, or whether to begin research in a different field.

[] President Jan Bleecker of The South African Union

The Cheju Pact shall contain all the labs of each signatory nation.
Just keep in mind that there are practical scientist limits to how many labs that can be used for researching each technology at once. Most of your starting scientists can only handle 5-25 labs at once.

It can be very sub-optimal to use a scientist without traits just because he is the only one that can handle 25 labs when another with +20% bonus (=80% bonus for research in the correct field) can achieve faster progress using only 14 labs.

USA is looking for research partners that can assist in the fields of sensors & firecontroll as well as construction & production. We offer TN tech (assuming we get it first) or other technology of 1:1 in value in exchange.

But how will you know where to send it? And what about people who build *unarmed* ships to get there first? :)
And less than 5 years is too long if it takes another nation less than 2 to figure out where the richest planets are and have a civilian ship land on them. Especially if you have those pesky treaties that forbid armed vessels to go anywhere near those planets ..

I'm not talking hypotheticals here. I've seen it work in another forum game..

Good to see we're on the same page there :)

Obviously the research would be Geo Sensors -> Engines -> Build a Civilian ship while researching Weapons -> Build an armed ship.

And this means that the first ships would leave earth (My prevision) in mid-to-late 2032. Obv probes can come first, but if i can build a civilian ship before the one who used probes, probes are little to no use. Yes, maybe a few can be sent to determine where the real estate is, but certainly not to claim. However the idea could've been interesting if the probes had a good range (> 1BilKm) because of the big quantity of big bodies (Planets and Satellites) between earth and, say, Saturn. But with a range like this, i don't even know if it's possible to reach Jupiter...and to survey the inner system it takes a month, maybe less, rendering the advantage to know where the good stuff is effectively null and void.

1 point that I think is missing here as well.

Pre 6.0 the research cost of TN-Tech was 1.000 RP's. After, it is 5.000 RP's. That pushes a lot of reseach back and takes a little getting used too.

It depends a bit where earth and jupiter are in their orbits relative to each other. These probes with their 680m km range were designed to cover the inner solar system up to and including Jupiter, but launches will need to be timed correctly due to the fact that earth orbits at about ~150m km and jupiter sits at ~780m km from the sun in this game. Meaning that if earth is on the other side of the sun the probes can't reach jupiter.

Still, that will only delay things by 6-9 months or so, if earth is only just leaving the good zone.
As for that building schedule - building a naval shipyard takes time and resources too, and retooling it to switch from the survey design to the (un)armed design, ditto.
Especially if you skip the 'engines' phase of that research and just have some people jump into civilian ships with conventional drives immediately :p
(Yes, those are *terribly* *terribly* slow ..)
