((STOP PUTTING IN LOGIC!

I don't know for sure, Hawk, but since I don't see anyone's name by him, I suppose he's still free. But you'll have to wiat a bit before confirmation from Fry, probably, since he'll more than likely be away for a few days))

A recent editorial by the Charleston Courier, which I only received from one of my cousins working in the city, which continues the call for secession... what the citizens of South Carolina choose to do is their business, but, my fellow Virginians, I beg you not to abandon the Union yet. The President has only just entered office, and no hostilities have broken out yet between our two nations. Let us hope that a peaceful resolution to this crisis can happen, and that Virginia, and all Southern states, can maintain their sovereignty, guaranteed to them in the Constitution, and affirmed by the Virginia and Kentucky resolutions, whilst still remaining within this Union!

I too hope we can find a peaceful solution to this crisis, but if the United States government refuses to accept our independence we will resort to arms.

My Fellow Americans:

Apprehension seems to exist, among the people of the Southern States, that by the accession of a Republican Administration their property and their peace and personal security are to be endangered. There has never been any reasonable cause for such apprehension. Indeed, the most ample evidence to the contrary has all the while existed and been open to their inspection. It is found in nearly all the published speeches of him who now addresses you. I do but quote from one of those speeches when I declare that " I have no purpose, directly or indirectly, to interfere with the institution of slavery in the States where it exists. I believe I have no lawful right to do so, and I have no inclination to do so, and if I did it would be unacceptable"

What is also unacceptable is rebellion. And I can tell you now that any kind of open rebellion where a militia or army fires at a citizen of the United States will be met with the might of the Union and the most extreme of force.

God Bless the Union.

Abraham Lincoln.

((It is the latter; for some reason, the Founding Fathers decided it was better not to have a Senate, so here we are! Unless of course Fry chooses to change it))
((*cough* "As for who you are playing as, I will act as the United and Confederate States Senate, while everyone else plays in the Congresses." - Opening post...))

((So there we go, I overlooked it))

President Lincoln has assuaged my concerns; he has said many atime these past few months that he cannot, and will not end slavery by his own will, or increase the power of the executive to such an end.

((Bu-but.....butterfly effect....historical continuity....we still have the same presidents the ripple effect would change everything DOES NOT COMPUTE DOES NOT COMPUTE))
((I am not quite as zealous about it at Ty but I would really like it if Fry controlled the senate.))

Can I play as Longstreet?

OOC: If I could join this will be me:

Name: Connor Kelly
Birthplace: Houston, Texas
Birthdate: January 1, 1825
Age: 36
Ideology: Southern Democrat
Backstory: The son of a Scottish woman and an Irish man, Connor was the eldest of 6 children. His father was a cattle rancher, and for most of his childhood the Kelly family lived in poverty. In his early 20's Connor and his 4 brothers would become minor slave traders across most of the southern USA. In recent years Connor has become deeply involved in politics, as he fears for the welfare of his brothers and many people like them, and what would become of them if slavery was abolished.

EDIT: Changed his birthdate :eek:o

((Wow, he became a successful slave trader over 60 years before he was born, that takes talent.

After much deliberation, I will be closing CitU due to it being too confusing for many people. I apologise and encourage everyone to join CitR if you are not already in it.
