Private Letter to Sir Gustav von Kahr, Minister-President of Bavaria from former Crown Prince Wilhelm.
I have noted your brave efforts in protecting German and Bavarian customs and traditions from the wave of Internationalism and Pacifism that is being preached by radicals in the German society. I will say that I am pleased to know that there will always be a stronghold of true Germans in my homeland. During the Weltkrieg I and Crown Prince Rupprecht fought together on the western front, and I learned to admire his competence and spirit. Without a doubt his father, may he rest in peace, has a fine and well-deserved successor.
But just like the German monarchy is being denied by this Republic, so is the Bavarian monarchy also being rejected and thrown away by radicals. The German Reich brought growing prosperity and peace for 45 years, before the catastrophe that was the Weltkrieg. But as a good and honest man like you would know, my father was not to blame for the Weltkrieg and neither was Crown Prince Rupprecht's father. The German monarchies have been unjustly punished for something that they were not to blame for, and that is just one of the many injustices that should be rectified.
I hope to return to my fatherland one day, but I would not wish to disturb the precarious situation in Germany in any way that would provoke instability, violence, or renewed conflict with the victors. But on the fortunate day that I may return, I hope to see the Kingdom of Bavaria restored in all its glory as an integral part of Germany.
With the highest regards,
Frederick Wilhelm
