Well, this was the time that relations between the Empire and Chiss Ascendancy had begun in earnest and I imagined that I could be a member of the Ascendancy on a "guided tour" to showcase the might of the Empire.

That's an interesting proposition. Sure, I suppose.

Reminder to everyone else that we still need one more required spot filled (legionary sub-commander) before the game can begin.

Aristocra Mitth'ena'rasi (shortened as Thenara)
Representative of the Chiss Ascendancy

Officially Mitth'ena'rasi is a member of the Mitth family, the eighth of the nine ruling families that control Csilla and with it the Chiss Ascendancy. Having grown up in the strict and disciplined Chiss society she has always been very restrained and formal thorughout her whole life, an admirable trait within the Ascendancy. Being of noble blood she began life already high on the ladder, though neither she nor her family were of the truly highest echelons of Chiss society, and she managed to advance further during the course of her life. When the Galactic Republic, later Empire, was first discovered the Chiss considered it to be a useful potential ally and particularly after Palpatine's ascencion to power formal relations have been pursued. This is where Thenara comes in as she was sent as one of the first diplomats to the empire to further good relations between the two nations and the Empire, as always, saw this as an opportunity to impress the Chiss with their military might and put put Thenara oboard the star destroyer The Ascendant to show her how the Empire handled things. When news of the rebellion on the planet below reached the imperial staff they thought that they could put some respect in the Chiss by showing them how efficiently the Empire deals with any insurgency.

Unofficially Mitth'ena'rasi is a member of Household Phalanx, a group of Chiss Paramilitaries that broke with the rest of the Chiss Expansionary Defense Force. The group is led by Syndic Mitth'raw'nuruodo, also known by a few in the Empire as Grand Admiral Thrawn, and advocates for more agressive strategies to deal with the galaxy. Thenara is a young and ambitious woman who believes that kinsman Thrawn is the key to a successful future for the Chiss and is sent to observe and evaluate the Empire. To take in everything she can about their culture, history, tactics, technology and way of life. She believes that the Chiss has things that they could learn from the Empire and fully embraces her loyalty towards the Empire of the Hand, Thrawn's colonial state and House Phalanx' powerbase, a nation loyal towards the Ascendancy even if the latter would not want to admit to it.

Thenara accepted.

Name: Saron Polion
Position/rank: Sub Commander of the Ascendant's 419th Stormtrooper Legion
Biography:

A human from the slums of Coruscant, far above average intelligence and a good constitution earned him a place in forced conscription at age 16 when the Empire came knocking after Order 66, looking to replace its aging clones with actual humans. He however did not mind much, for life in the lower levels of Coruscant is savage and harsh, and the Empire payed, at the least. He showed promise and the ruthless, cunning and ambition desirable for any future officer as a stormtrooper, and saw a streak of promotions, earning himself a place in the Royal Imperial Academy on Coruscant by his 18th birthday.

Further promotions eventually led him to command a former Republic ship now in service of the Empire, but when that ship was lost partially due to his relative lack of skill in commanding ships, he was reassigned to the Ascendant upon its launching, and has served as Sub Commander of the 419'th Stormtrooper Legion ever since, a position he views as pretty much the apex of what he could reach and ably do, and has shown little ambition to move further up the ranks since.

Now however, with the Empire falling, he is worried for his future and hopes he lives to see his daughter grow into a woman and to be reunited with his wife on Coruscant, living comfortably from his officer wages in the higher levels.

Polion accepted. The first update will be up soon.

Name: Major Covane Hibliss
Position/rank: Major
Biography: Born on the Core World of Ganthel, Covane descends from a long line of military officials. His father was a Major General in the Republic Army and later a General in the Imperial Army. Encouraged by his father, Covane was educated at the Imperial Academy and graduated with flying colors, becoming a Lieutenant in the Imperial Army. Although initially an ardent supporter of the Empire, Covane became disillusioned after the destruction of Alderaan by the Death Star. Bound by his strong sense of duty, he has nevertheless remained outwardly loyal to the Empire, earning distinctions and a promotion to Major at the Battle of Hoth. However, the recent news of the emperor's death and the disaster at Endor has further challenged his loyalty to the Empire.

Captain Anton Draav
Acting Commander of Orbital Station Guardian

An orphan from Kuat, Anton Draav lived the majority of his life prior to enlisting in the Stormtrooper Corps living and working in the orbital shipyard above his, presumably, home planet. While legally the use of child labor within Kuat was outlawed, it was actively used by the dry-docks in orbit, as their smaller stature could fit into areas where the adult laborers and robotic assemblers couldn't, especially for damaged ships coming in for repairs. Draav was one of the thousands of children used in this role, and over the years of his childhood gained an affinity for repairing and maintaining space-based machines and structures. When he became old enough, Draav enlisted into the Stormtrooper Corps, where this talent he had developed eventually earned him a spot at one of the local Imperial Academies, training as a combat engineer with a emphasis on space-based combat. Rotating through various duty stations before finally ending up on the Ascendant, now Captain Draav was the natural choice to second Major Fothe as he and his battalion were assigned to garrison Utapau's Orbital Station Guardian.

((Was originally going to join as Fothe himself, but his wounding made me switch to Draav.))

Priority Transmission to Captain Lytigus Ank

Sir, my starcraft are ready for deployment, and can provide air support for our ground assets planetside if requested. However I advise against such an effort at this time, since reports have come in that the insurgents are setting up anti-aircraft weaponry, which might inflict heavy casualties against my command. With the presence and approach of a fleet of unknown allegiance, I believe it would be imprudent to deploy the Ascendent's TIE complement in a major operation in the opposite direction with high risk. Instead I suggest launching our fighters and bombers to be able to quickly respond to this approaching fleet, as well as sending a couple fighters to scout this force, determining its size, composition, and allegiance. Regardless of your decision, sir, I await your command.

Lieutenant Commander Rescal Beivet

Lieutenant Commander Gaim sat uncomfortably at his station waiting for orders on where to direct the weapons system. The appearance of the mystery fleet and the Upatau uprising with such a short time felt too coincidental. If the fleet turns out to be hostile, the ground forces will lose their aerial cover and likely be overwhelmed. If an orbital bombardment is to begin, as terrible of civilian casualties it would cause, then the weapons systems won’t likely be moved back over the fleet in time to charge up and defend if they are hostile.

Captain Draav accepted.

The rebels have dared to challenge the might of the Empire! By the Emperor, we must secure this floor from the rebel menace.

"... Captain Bain reporting that there's an increase chance of insurgent activity. Patrols on Level 26 has thus been increased."

Commander Wilhelm stared shocked at the reports coming in. Something must be done. The decision on deploying TIE fighters was tough, on one hand they should keep their TIE fighters for whatever fleet is approaching, on the other hand if the insurgents manage to entrench their anti-aircraft weaponry then they'll be extremely difficult to latter displace. Something would have to be done about the falling Guardian Station too. In fact, the two problems may even intersect- if Captain Drav sends over his wounded, they may get shot down by the insurgent guns.

Transmission to Captain Lytigus Ank

I recommend sir that we deploy the TIE wing to quickly root out the insurgents before they further entrench. In addition, I recommend allowing Captain Drav to send over his wounded.

Captain Lytigus Ank
Commander of the Ascendant
The bridge - the hive of the ship, the fleet, and perhaps one of the few bastions of Imperial power. And amidst this, Captain Ank stood in supreme control, a heavy burden that rested on his shoulders, moreso now as the situation of Pau City had effectively plunged to the very depth it inhabited. Each update ushered in a new tragedy, each painting a distinct picture of chaos. Was it not the very foundation of the Empire to instill order in the vacuum of anarchy? These thoughts pushed Captain Ank onwards.

Essential to this crisis was communication, and thus Ank quickly sent out messages, replies, and commands, barking over the ever-flowing wave of updates.

__________________________________________

Transmission to Colonel Valorum:

Take all necessary action to preserve planetary security, engage as you see fit. Ascendant stands at the ready to offer evacuation shuttles to Civic Level in protection of Imperial leadership. Recommended course of action - the destruction of insurgent anti-air capabilities and the securing vital infrastructure and assets for population coercion. Deployment of Ascendant fighters delayed until skies are safe.

Ensure constant updates.

__________________________________________

Transmission to Lieutenant Commander Beivet:

Report has been evaluated and approved. Deploy at your discretion to adequately scout unknown forces. Prepare plans to act as screening force in the event of hostilities.

__________________________________________

Transmission to Captain Draav:

Report has been evaluated. Shuttles will be dispatched to evacuate wounded and bring engineers in the hopes of repairing orbital stabilizers. In the event that repairs fail, alternative options will be pursued. Maintain order among station personnel, keep armed forces and engineers on high alert.

Pursuing options in utilizing tractor beam to stabilize the station if need be.

__________________________________________

Transmission to Commander Wilhelm:

Report has been evaluated. Proposal to deploy fighters planet-side denied on account of unknown insurgent anti-air capabilities.

Situation with Guardian requires immediate action. Make due preparations for a team to depart to Guardian ASAP, attempting to repair orbital stabilizers.
Furthermore, prepare joint report with Lieutenant Commander Gaim on feasibility of utilizing Ascendant tractor beam in station stabilization.

__________________________________________

Transmission to Lieutenant Commander Gaim:

Ensure high alertness in the event of hostilities with unknown fleet entering system space.

Prepare joint report with Commander Wilhelm on feasibility of utilizing Ascendant tractor beam in Guardian stabilization.

Additionally, prepare report on Ascendant capabilities in selective orbital bombardment, including possible risk report on Imperial forces and assets.

Transmission to Captain Ank:

Regarding orbital bombardment, it is highly unfeasible to provide direct fire support from Ascendant to the entirety of the 419th Legion due to layout of Pau City. Only targets with minimal risk to civilians and ground forces are enemy forces on outskirts of sinkhole and at very bottom level of the sinkhole. Slight risk area would be lower half of Pau City due to the large open areas. The upper areas of the city proper carry unacceptable risks for orbital bombardment, the Civic level being the source of Imperial hold over the city and the Wealth level being the location of the major starport and various landing sites. In regards to risk to assets, all levels below the 20th carry little risk as only a few speeder bikes and AT-STs with at most 270 Stormtroopers were reported deployed to these areas. The 20th level itself has the highest concentration of Imperial forces, all levels above this that have Imperial presence, however, contain valuable assets including all deployed AT-AT walkers and minimum of 296 Stormtroopers each. Due to the need to face the Ascendant below targets to allow all of her weapons system to conduct orbital bombardment, she will be extremely vulnerable to assault without support from small craft. However, should we face perpendicular to Utapau, half of the weapons systems will be able to bombard while the other half can be reserved for possible naval combat.

__________________________________________

Transmission to Commander Wilhelm: Based on prior use in the field by other Imperial I-class Star Destroyers, it has been determined that the Ascendant’s tractor beams can pull vessels and objects at least up to the size of a Corellian Corvette. I believe that we should be more than capable of stabilizing the Guardian, however we will be likely unable to effective provide fire to the forces engaged in Pau City. I would, however, like to see your opinion on whether we should utilize the tractor beams to aid in stabilizing the station and saving all men on board. If we do not, remember that we have until 08:27 to conduct and complete any and all repair attempts before the station and all men remaining onboard are doomed.

*PRIORITY TRANSMISSION to Col. GHIL'AD VALORUM from Maj. COVANE HIBLISS*

Skirmishing reported across Level 20. Light casualties sustained: 4 dead, 7 wounded, 1 MIA. Position holding but morale low after news of Emperor's death. Not sustainable in long term without further support. Awaiting further orders.

Aristocra Mitth'ena'rasi (shortened as Thenara)
Representative of the Chiss Ascendancy

Emerging from the elevator Thenara strode on to the command bridge, quickly seeking out seeking out the captain and joined him. She observed his work for a little while until he paused and she spoke.

"Captain Ank, I heard the news of the arrival of ships to the system. While I trust that you have the situation under control I was curious about what you know of them, and their potential link with other... groups of peoples."

Her voice was soft and almost pleasant to listen to but it had a creepy undertone to it, one that never seemed to leave it no matter the subject and was there as strong as ever. She gave a cold smile to the captain as she observed him and everyone else working on the deck.

Igieros Logivia

Cook’s Assistant
A low-ranking, slightly slow and socially lacking soldier posted to the logistical elements of the ship. At least seemingly. In fact Logivia serves as an undercover Imperial Intelligence officer (of the Naval Intelligence Agency) on a secret mission to root out dissenters and traitors suspected to have installed themselves aboard the Ascendant. However, with the Empire falling into disarray, it is unclear who he is even supposed to report to, or what exactly is still to be regarded as treason or cowardice.

The flood of messages onto the Ascendant was enough to knock almost any man off his feet, and Ghil'ad Valorum felt that he might not be an exception. Suddenly Utapau wasn't such a sinecure anymore. In the space of less than a half hour they had suddenly been presented with what looked like a major uprising onworld and the information streaming in painted a grim picture for many of his troopers. Valorum closed his eyes and drew a deep breath, exhaling slowly before opening his eyes again. It was time to do his job.

Looking over the brief transmission from Lt Colonel Polion he was stuck by the sheer size and organisation of the sudden insurgency. It would have been impossible to assemble on the fly, and most likely indicated that this had been planned for some time -- and the fact that it had gotten to this point indicated a major failure of intelligence on the ground. He resolved to convoke a meeting of the officers once this was all over in order to address the issue; but there wasn't time for it at the moment. Quickly reviewing the forces at his command Colonel Valorum began to write and issue orders. As usual he expected the Navy to be largely useless in restoring order to Pau City -- not that their supporting role wouldn't be milked for all it was worth -- and was heavily conscious of the responsibilities which he now bore.

Don't fail me now...

**Transmission to Lt. Colonel Polion**

I have authorised the deployment of reinforcements to assist those of you under fire -- 4,000 troops to the Civic Level. You are to anticipate their arrival. Until arrival I want all forces to pull back as they are able, abandoning the lower levels and retreating upward. The shuttles and barges you have onworld will be used to help accomplish this. Our first and at this time only priority is to ensure the safety and stability of the upper levels and I want every resource used to accomplish this, especially with a view toward reinforcing Majs. Lendis and Tymon. I repeat: all forces are to withdraw from the lower levels. Maj. Keithal on L5 will report to me as this is accomplished. Having reorganised our forces and stabilised the upper levels we will then address retaking the lower levels.

You are to convey these instructions with immediate effect to all commanders in Pau City. Remind them and their soldiers that they fight for their families as well as the Emperor -- they are the last and only hope for order and safety in the galaxy. You will keep me immediately apprised of all developments.

Long live the Empire.

-- Col. Valorum, Ba.

---
**Transmission to Cpt. Draav**

Prepare your forces for the possibility of immediate evacuation pending repairs.

Long live the Empire.

-- Col. Valorum

---
**Transmission to Cpt Ark**

I have authorised the deployment of 4,000 of my stormtroopers to Pau City. This will require the usage of the remaining transports therefore I expect they will be put at my disposal. Likewise, regardless of your reticence to deploy fighters I will require that my troopers be accompanied by a detachment air support -- it will not do to see the transports shot down with thousands of corpses.

Long live the Empire.

-- Col. Valorum
