Hello and Welcome!
Today I bring yet another forum game to the Paradox OT Forums. Previously I have created things like World in Revolution, and Crisis in the Reichstag, but now I bring before a slightly more specific game. The game's setting will be the late 19th Century, in the United States of America. This outlines the Rise of Big Business, Trusts, Monopolies, and the largest expansion of the American Economy. Your goal? Take control of a company, and lead it to be one of the largest the world has ever seen.
Where does that leave you, the player? You will have a few options. You may take control of one of the various historical figures and their companies, and attempt to get as much power, and as much money, as you possibly can. Where do we start? It's January 1st, 1866. The Civil War has just ended. Over the past 5 years, railroads had begun to explode, snaking their way across the United States. This left a problem, though. The rural South, shaky in railroads before the war, was now devastated. Money can be made in many sectors. It all depends on which ones you finally decide upon.
Now, to the actual game.
Turns will be 3 Months long. These will be called Quarters. You will submit what your plans are to the GM (Me), and I will quickly write up a small summary of what has happened in the quarter, such as changes in fortunes, company buy outs, and the stock market. You can do mostly anything. Building things, buying factories, sabotage, and just about anything else you can think of. I will attempt to try and get and get a years work of updates out in one week, but that all depends on if everyone else can get their orders to me on time.
To make things fair, I will limit everyone to around seven lines of text in a private message (It doesn't matter if it goes over a little), and then I will roll on it to see how well it goes. If something major happens, I will write a newspaper article about it. Most of this game will be centred around the Player's Stats. Unlike World in Revolution, there is no Main Update. It will revolve around a constantly flowing series of stats. This thread is to be used for one reason, it is to act like a "Backroom" of sorts. You will post all of your secret dealings, arm twisting, buyouts, stock market bids, and anything else here. I will act as other companies, the Government, Politicians, Police, and anything else that could throw a wrench in your plans. The only secret things here, where you use Private Messages, is if two people decide to unite and try and take down another one of their fellow titans.
The Stats
And now, here is the most important part of the whole game. The Stats. I will go through all of them, and give a little bit of information so you can understand what it is your looking at, and how to navigate it.
1. Name: This is the name of your character. Some will be historical, some will not be.
2. Net Worth: This is how much your character is worth. This includes all of your assets, and how much money you could get if you sold everything.
3. Cash on Hand: This is how much money you have in your bank. This is the money you can use right away to buy and sell things as you wish.
4. Debt: This is how much debt you have. This is from unprofitable companies, and from bank loans.
5. Stock Price: This is the aggregate price of the stocks of the companies you own.
6. Stocks Owned: These are the stocks, and how much of them, that you own.
7. Stock Value: This is the value of all of the stocks you own, personally.
8. Companies: This is a list of the companies that you own, and how big they are.
9. Political Clout: This is how much weight you have with the Political Class, this includes the President (1), Congress(.75), Local(.30), and State(.50) officials. The higher the number, the better your clout.
10. Player: This is simply who is playing the character.
To sign up as someone who is not already pre-made, use this template:
Name:
Net Worth:
Cash on Hand:
Debt:
Stock Price:
Stocks Owned:
Stock Value:
Companies:
Political Clout:
Player: NONE
NOTE: Just because it seems like the stats page is full, if there are NOT 15 players, then the game is still open and you are welcome to sign up still! Also, when making new characters, do not make them overpowered. None of them should be stronger than the current top three pre-made players. I reserve the right to modify your characters if you make them too strong.
Now that those stats are done with, there is the fun thing called the Stock Market. This is an indicator of the overall health of the economy. It will be an indicator, much like the Dow Jones Industrial Average. For the sake of the game, we are going to assume there is an average of stocks from around the United States. The ones you control are included in this average. If it goes up, obviously the economy is doing good and growing. However, if it goes down, that means the economy is contracting and a recession or a depression is in bound if it continues. I will update this post with a FAQ section to help settle any questions about the game. I will also keep it updated with links to Newspaper Articles and the Stats.
