To comply with the current operational plan I issue the following orders to the 9th Panzer Diviwions.

The 9th Panzer shall, under the cover of darkness, advance North to cover the Western Flank of the 21st Panzer Division. Once we have arrived all tanks and infantry are to prepare defensive positions and camouflage netting to avoid aircraft related casualties and prepare to launch a counter offensive on the next night (June 8th). Panzer IVs, supported by infantry and artillery, shall lead the assault while the Panther tanks remain in reserve incase we need to break significant concentrations of British armour. If possible we request night bombing support for this counter offensive, we must break the British and ensure the safety of the Army Group's center.

Generalleutnant Jollasse of the 9th Panzer Division

The 275th will immediately move up to reinforce and fortify St. Lo. While the 3rd Parachute Division take position on the hill to the east of the town as well as the town, the 275th will take positions in the town as well as in the west, at their left flank and the river, and try to link a defensive line with the 91th Infantry.

Generalleutnant Hans Schmidt

It is a grave mistake to give up Cherbourg without so much as a fight. As the most important deep water harbour in the area, it is vital for further allied plans, and will therefor allow us to tie down a significant amount of American divisions if defended, even just for a while; divisions that wont be able to assist the Canadian and British forces once we launch our counter attack near Caen.

You should not be concerned about giving up Cherbourg without a fight. I've heard that the 709th Infantry has been forced to retreat towards the city and should be capable of offering at least light resistance. Committing more effective forces to such a doomed cause would be futile and it's importance is purely relative since it is the only deep water port in the entire region. The Allies seem to hope to bring initial supplies off scratch built harbors on the landing beaches themselves.

In response to the statements of Generalleutnant Jollasse of the 9th Panzer Division, his request for aerial support on the night of 8 June is hereby granted. The bombers of Kampfgeschwader 6 shall be deployed in conjunction with the fighters of Kampfgeschwader 76 to inflict maximum damage on the enemy, their armored capabilities, and are to provide general support to the 9th Panzer when possible.

OOC: For those that have not yet posted their orders: let's try to get them in by 11:59 PM (EST) tomorrow (Saturday).

After extensive work on our own positions in and around Caen it has become evident to me that there's only one way we could possibly lose this city before reinforcements arrive, and that is due to aerial bombardment. As such, I request a concentration of our remaining fighter wings in Normandy in the airspace above Caen, so as to achieve local superiority and eliminate this grave threat to this vital position. Alternatively, I request additional anti air units to be deployed to Caen immediately.

Panzer Lehr shall advance north along the road into Caen at all possible speed, there to provide support for the 21st Panzer Division. Panzergrenadiers, divisional artillery, and the majority of Lehr's Panzer IVs shall be deployed in the defense of Caen, while the division's Panthers, Tigers, and some of its Panzer IVs shall be kept in reserve as a striking arm in the event that Allied armor makes an appearance.

I hereby request that the Luftwaffe provide aerial coverage over Lehr's proposed line of advance into Caen, so that losses to Allied air assets are kept to a minimum.

In regards to the requests of Generalmajor von Manteuffel and his concerns about the defense of Cherbourg, the Fw-190 fighters of Jagdgeschwader 26 shall be deployed to establish German air superiority over the city in preparations for the arrival of Allied air and ground units to the area. This request is approved by Der Führer himself, in conjunction with Directive No. 53 on the Conduct of War.

Furthermore, in response to Generalleutnant Bayerlein's request for fighter support in the movement of his division north to the City of Caen - as defined by Der Führer as a city of absolute importance to the war effort and the campaign in Normandy - elements of Jagdgeschwader 2 shall be deployed to clear the skies of enemy aircraft as Panzer Lehr Division advances to its designated position.
