New Century War Week 2 End Stats

United Earth Government
Leader: Jobst Trunicht
Strengths:
Super Prototype: To make up for their lack of reserach in the last few years, the UEG scientists are quite eager to produce the best of the best, despite the costs. More likely to produce 'super prototype' models when doing research.
Earthian Manpower: The UEG has significant manpower reserves due to controlling the homeworld, and rarely has to worry about running out.

Weaknesses:
Behind the Times: The UEG has been neglecting it's armed forces for years, as such while large, it starts with drastically out of date equipment and a near complete lack of Walking Armour models.

Independent Colonial League
Strengths:
Advanced Military: The colonies have been preparing for this war in secret for some time, and as such have been preparing themselves. They start with up to date equipment and significant quantities of Walking Armour.
Designed for Everyone: The ICL scientists have their heads screwed on a bit firmer, and in general look to design equipment that can serve as a new baseline model and then upgrade off that. More likely to produce 'Grunt' models when doing research.

Weaknesses:
Weak Industry: Being mostly space based, the ICL lacks the gigantic factory cities of the UEG. This means they need to make good choices on what they produce, as they won't be able to afford as many.

(Okay, I believe that is all the stats. Some things to note as I missed them)

Repairs: All units have 2 (or more) hidden 'Hit Points.' Once these points reach 0, the unit is destroyed. When it is at less then full health, it becomes damaged. A damaged unit operates at less CT depending on how much HP is lost. All units can repair to full health by staying a single turn on a friendly planet without battling.

Upgrading: A unit can be upgraded to new equipment of the same 'type' at half the cost of building a new unit. This only relates to units in the same 'line' of a tree. So a Zapa I unit could upgrade to Zapa IIs at half the cost of Zapa IIs, but an Idros I to Zapa II would cost the full price of the Zapa IIs.

As I said before, Orders due Friday.

Major Ono,

Your presence is urgently requested on Earth. As one of the few UEG personnel with an intimate experience with the newest ICL's mobile walkers, we would like you to evaluate our prototype mobile weapon, designation V-01. This project is of great interest to President Trunicht and full authorization has been given by UEG High Command to co-opt what military assets we see as necessary.

Please report to New York City immediately for further instructions.

Enclosed is an overview of the Zapa's initial performance based on direct experience on Callisto and reviews of combat footage from Lysithea.

Walking Armor production model 03, codename Zapa, is the most advanced mass-production design presently in use. Its modular weapons system and multi-purpose appendages give it much greater combat potential than the smaller and less capable Idros.

Despite these advantages, much of the Zapa's potential is presently underutilized. Though its underlying chassis is capable, it is lacking in both maneuverability and durability; a potentially lethal combination. Though a Zapa regiment is capable, footage from Lysithea makes clear that it can be defeated in detail with the proper tactics. Moreover, the limited selection of weaponry makes its modularity largely unnecessary.

I assume that a new model is presently in production. I've taken the initiative to write my own recommendations for future development:

  • A higher-output powerplant. The Zapa frame is nimble enough, but insufficient output makes it sluggish and slow to accelerate. Lack of speed was crucial to the number of escapees on Callisto and Lysithea.
  • Heavier armor. Lysithea proved that the main gun of a Terran MBT can still penetrate Zapa side-armor. Increased durability would prevent further irreplaceable losses.
  • Additional weapons. Presently, the Zapa is geared towards fighting MBTs. Anti-personnel weapons are essential, and as UE research catches up we'll also need anti-Walker weapons.
On a personal note, I've found the controls a bit slow to respond. None of the other Zapa pilots I've talked to have noticed anything, so I've left it out of my formal recommendations, but I frequently find myself outpacing the Zapa's response time. Not sure why yet.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Cmdr. Hakon Angurvadal, test pilot

Jovian Army, Pt. 4

ATTENTION
THE AUTHORITY of legitimate force on Lysithea having passed into the hands of the of the Independent Colonial League, the General Headquarters of the Jovian Army shall take all measures in our power to restore, and ensure, public order and safety. The laws in force on this colony will be, unless absolutely prevented by circumstances of the ongoing conflict, respected. The use of military justice in the governance of civilians, in such incidents as to prevent looting and secure the safety of the occupying forces from guerrilla and espionage activity deemed criminal by the conventional rules of war, will be a method of last resort. Whenever possible the occupying forces will assist local law enforcement and, when by necessity put into the role of policing, uphold the civilian legal code of Lysithea.

I shall arrive on Earth as soon as possible. Complications on the front may cause delays, but I shall do my best to hurry the process along. I look forward to see what you have cooked up in your labs.

Ono.

A PROCLAMATION

from His Royal Majesty the GRAND DUKE
After the utmost excellence and bravery displayed by the Grand Duke's soldiers, the moon of Callisto has been liberated from the cruel bureaucratic grasp of the UEG. The resilience of the residents of Callisto cannot be understated in this endeavor, as they have, after many years of oppression, broken off the shackles of UEG tyranny. As a reward for the sacrifices of many Callistonians, the Grand Duke hereby raises the status of Callisto to that of "Duchy." All residents of the Jovian moon of Callisto are hereby citizens of the Duchy of Callisto, and are now under the protection of the Grand Duke of Titan and Duke of Callisto, Friedrich I. As servants of the Grand Duke, all loyal and able Callistonians are called upon to serve in the Grand Duke's forces to fight against tyranny and oppression in the rest of the solar system. Those who do shall be rewarded generously upon an end of the conflict with all enemies of the Grand Duke.

Diary of G. Actura
This Titanian is a [censored] idiot. We liberate the poor people of Callisto by blood and steel, and this posh poser comes in acting like he single-handedly and benevolently saved Callisto, ignoring all of his troops and the other constitutent republics.

I don't even care I got the honours of capturing an entire regiment, I need off this planetoid. I swear on Rhea, if the republics fall due to this egotistical failure of a human I'm crashing my Titan into Saturn. Thank god Jovians are far more sane.

An excerpt from President Trunicht's speech on the course of the war thus far;

truniht.jpg

"Our brave men and women in the Defense Forces fought long and hard to delay the advance of the Rebellion. While delay was all they could do they took down several enemy walkers and showcased how disunited the forces of insurrection are. To the people of Callisto, I say to you, you are the masters of your own fate and not the property of this dictator from Titan. The so-called ICL claims that they fight to bring 'freedom' to the Outer Colonies but instead their actions have resulted in the population of an entire human colony reduced to being chattel before the whims of a madman. If the Rebels had any ounce of self-respect they'd denounce this Robber Baron Fredreich for what he really is; a bloodthirsty ogre and opportuniste of the highest infamy.

"We're fighting for our future as a free species. The so-called ICL would rather us be ruled by the whims of a single human than by laws, collectively agreed upon. The proof is on Titan. The only future that our brothers and sisters in the Outer Colonies will have should the so-called ICL win is the greedy grasp of the feudal regime Titan. Let's fight for their freedom and for ours. Let's not abandon our brothers and sisters in the Outer Colonies to being abused by despotism. Let's fight onwards, to victory against Rebel tyranny!"

latest

"This is Kate Hutchinson GNN as we're live here at the Battle of Callisto!" The woman was clad in dark blue body armor with the word PRESS stitched across the chest . She was adjusting her protective helmet as she spoke.

"The Earth forces are already in full retreat with several units fighting a delaying action against the oncoming invasion of the forces styling themselves as the I.C.L."

Major Riddle was alone in the briefing room observing the latest news reports, arms crossed and coffee in hand. The latest training session was set to take place in less than an hour but piloting duties were far from his mind. Footage from the battle showed nothing but casualties in the hundreds both soldier and civilian alike as the battle for the planet has been deemed, by everyone, as a lost cause.

"We're not sure how long the UEG can last out here, the attackers outnumber and outgun them but the flow of citizens fleeing the conflict has AHHH!" The lady shrieked as a shell landed 20 feet behind her to the left triggering a large explosion almost knocking the poor woman over. She regained her composure and continued on albeit in a hurried tone.

"Citizens continue to flee the fighting as the defending forces are completely outmatched and are desperately trying to get off the planet while taking as many of the wounded as possible. Rescue efforts continue as local and even planet-side authority has broken down to near chaos."

Stephen sucked his teeth before taking a long sip of the coffee. Despite being on Mars his orders were definitive. It might have been for the best, given the state of the military and the distance to the outlying planets reinforcement would of arrived too late. And then what?

Riddle turned his head to the sound of a door opening, it was one of the tank crew members.

"Sir?" The corporeal saluted with the Major returning the gesture. "Come on in."

Stepping into the room the young lad was already strapped in his boots and combat fatigues. "How goes the--"

"Lost. Callisto is lost."

The youngster known as Ryan Atkins nodded. Several seconds of silence occurred as the vid-screen continued to drone on about the fresh war, switching to several pundits and taking heads giving their two cents on the matter.

"Something on your mind kid?" Riddle broke the silence.

"Uh no sir, just wanted to get up early and make sure the tank was running properly. Don't want it breaking down in the middle of combat." He forced a smile.

"They're sturdy, operated one for a while. I actually feel good in them, now the XT-02...that is a dream." Images of the last several training sessions flashed in Stephen's mind. He had grown accustomed to the walking armor's weapon systems both mid-range and up close. He even developed some tricks of his own to increase his combat prowess.

"Really?" Corporal Atkin's face lit up.

"Maybe you'll pilot one sometime. The XT is a heck of an experience."

"Yeah I'd like that, say Major, if you don't mind me asking...you think we will win this war?"

With a grin and a thumbs up Riddle was brimming with confidence. "Of course, it's only just begun. We can't give up. We're fighting for humanity...for home."

For humanity. For home. A sobering thought, Riddle knew well enough that many will die in this war. Probably even this one, maybe even himself. While on the outside he emitted enthusiasm to the point of arrogance, inside he knew victory would come at a high price. A very high price.

Such is war.

The New Century War Week 3-4

UEG

In the weeks following the UEG retreat from Callisto and Lysithea, the Earthian forces set about quickly trying to rearm and dig in. Jobst, through a mix of televised responses to the events and the rapid creation of dozens of new vessels keeps his popularity riding high, for now. Over Earth a new fleet of Dauntless classes and Mydrans are pushed out of the shipyards while armoured regiments are raised on Deimos and Phobos.

Meanwhile on Mars, the factories on the planet are put to work churning out new weapons and body armour for the infantry across the planet. In the few weeks the entire planet’s arsenal of infantry weapons is replaced, and older weapons are put into large warehouses and storage areas in case of future need.

Heavy focus by both Jobst Trunicht’s Project V, and Joshua Tormino’s MARD team toward a mass produced Walking Armour design result in success. More specifically two different success. Jobst Trunicht’s Project V team ends up coming up with a quick answer to a ‘Walking Armour’ design that was both able to work in space and in atmosphere. The rather silly looking RWA-01 ‘Ball’ design. Using orbital and atmospheric workers pods that had extra armour, thrusters, and a cannon strapped to them. MARD’s results on the other hand is classified as the WA-01. The WA-01 is more along the lines of what a Walking Armour was expected to look like, but MARD may or may not have gone overboard in stripping out parts to make the thing a cheaper version of the XT-01, as it is rather flimsy. Though it does serve the purpose of Walking Armour, and is producible in large numbers, the MARD team putting out a regiment of them just to show they worked.

081e97c12b70c39d8309ff5b596b57f7--ground-type-pepakura.jpg

A toy model of the RWA-01 Ball in ground configuration. The toys were an attempt by the design team to buy some support for the design, and to recoup some of the, admittedly small costs in the design process.

Project V also begins working on a design that can carry Walking Armour and drop them from orbit. Some progress is made converting a heavy goods transporter into a WA carrier, but it is not ready for service or even testing by the end of the month.

Another measure by the UEG, more specifically Jobst himself, is a rather massive propoganda campaign against Friedrich I of Titan, and by extension, ICL. Enough is spent on this campaign to have built multiple regiments of tanks and infantry, and is actually surprisingly successful, in places it can reach at least. On Mars and Phobos, support for UEG surges, while support rather specifically for Friedrich drops in multiple ICL colonies, though ICL as a whole’s support remains untouched. On Titan, and surprisingly enough Callisto though, the propaganda has less effect, mostly because it’s countered by Friedrich’s own propaganda.

Meanwhile, the many new arrivals on Mars set to work starting to fortify the planet further, as it is by the end of the two weeks, much of Mars is a small fortress. It will certainly be prickly for ICL to attack at this point.

ICL

The forces of ICL seemed to take the two weeks to try to re-organize themselves following the rapid capture of the Jovian moons. Forces spreading out to prepare for a potential counterattack, while large numbers of forces were drawn up by across Bor Mallow’s territory, what they were was unknown to UEG.

In Uranus and Neptune, new battleship forces are raised up under Anton Cotte’s banner, though they are unfortunately a bit far back from the lines, so they will need some time to reach the frontlines. The ex-pirate lord also manages to put together a new design for ICL destroyers, nicknamed the ‘Convertible’ by the design team. Though actually constructing the design might take a bit longer.

DESTFREG.jpg

Proposals for the 'Convertible' Destroyer, all designs are based off the same base hull configuration.

Meanwhile on Titan, the Grand Duke orders the construction of a new squadron of cruisers, and rebuilds the annihilated 2nd Duke's Walking Armour, though unfortunately, due to the planet's capacity being put mostly toward the Dauntless C ships, the 2nd Duke's is rebuilt with the only mechs they could fit into production, namely, some Triton Is. Luckily for the Duke though, the industrial efforts he had been working on paid off, and going forward he's managed to double the industrial capacity of his primary planet.

Deimos Rebellion

Unlike UEG’s strengthening of support on Mars and Phobos, UEG support on Deimos started to drop rapidly. Indeed, by the last week of the month, much of Deimos was in open rebellion. Weapons had been supplied from somewhere, including a rather significant amount of walking armour. The UEG forces on the planet still have nominal control over the world, but strikes against UEG troops occur multiple times a day, and Deimos’ industrial capacity is crippled by the ongoing fighting mixed with significant worker riots. With so many forces having been redirected to Mars, the UEG garrison has little to no hope of holding the planet on its own if the rebellion gets worse. (Deimos remains in UEG hands, Deimos cannot build anything further, Deimos’ rebellion may continue growing if UEG does not put it down.)

morishita_8.jpg

Rebel Zapa I attacking a UEG watch post on Deimos

Other than the breakdown of order on Deimos though, the UEG-ICL war has a brief period of peace before what would likely be a rather bloody resumption of conflict.

(Research results will be sent around tomorrow along with stats, Deimos Rebellion does not count as a ‘mini’ until UEG attempts to suppress it or ICL tries to force an overthrow. Orders for the next full update are due Friday the 25th.)

Somewhere in orbit of Jupiter

Cotte was in his quarters reviewing footage on a personal computer while outside the sounds of movement and some commotion can be heard through the vessel's metal interior walls. Compounded with the unfamiliar roles he had taken on, some level of frustration was also starting to show. So much so that he almost didn't recover his composure when the door opened. The man who walks in seems about in his early 30s and the only article of clothing remotely resembling a uniform is an unbuttoned jacket with the identifying marks of some corporation removed and replaced with a stylized logo depicting an astronaut in a cowboy hat riding on top of a rocket. He's holding a small electronic tablet as walks in with a subtle smirk on his face.

"Ah, there you are Boss. I got something for you" He says as he waves the tablet in the air in front of him

"Whatever it is Gerard it can wait." Cotte replies not looking up as he addresses him "I'm busy, and please use 'sir', I have to make all of this look official"

"Sorry Boss I've known you for too long." Gerard says as the grin on face widens "Besides, you hate being called 'sir' and you hate the concept having an official position."

To that Cotte lets out an audible sigh "That's beside the point" he says trying to mask his relief with forced frustration

"Still doesn't change the fact I'm not calling you 'sir'." Gerard says as he slams the tablet flat on the table "Now, you need to approve this file"

"Didn't I make you my second-in-command so I wouldn't have to deal with stuff like this?" Cotte asks as he picks up the file

"You made me second-in-command because you didn't want people to know you've just been winging it." Gerard replies with a somewhat phoney air of frustration " And I have done most of the work, you just need to read and sign it off"

"Fine let's look at this." With that Cotte begins to actually read the file, before he has a look of confusion on his face "Who is this Gerard?"

"It says the man's name right there." he answers in a joking fashion

The room goes silent as Cotte processes the corniness of that "joke" before he responds with "That's not what I meant, I mean why am I reading his personnel file?"

"Because you need people to be in charge of those fancy new ships you had built and this is the 'official' way doing it"

"Well the way we were doing it before was working fine" Cotte responds clearly not looking forward to this new aspect of his position

"Except that was with crews made up of privateers, smugglers, resistance fighters and military defectors. In short, people who know what they're doing. These new ships, they're gonna filled with people who even haven't held a weapon in their lives, let alone understand how to crew a battleship!" There's another more serious moment of silence after that remark

"Point taken." Cotte responds begrudgingly "You know, you're one of the last people I'd expect to take all this so seriously."

"Well, that's because we've got a lot more eyes on us than before. Not only do you control this 'League's' largest single fleet, but you're also probably one of the more sane faces in it."

"Well I do have trouble having people call me 'sir', so 'your Majesty' would be kind of a stretch"

With that last statement, both men chuckle before Cotte hands the tablet to his lieutenant and Gerard exits the room, leaving him to (somewhat unenthusiastically) return to looking at the footage he was reviewing before hand. He mutters something regretfully under his breath.

Sorry everyone. I'm on vacation at the moment (been so since last week) and of the 3 places I've been too (all were supposed to have wifi) and in the end one had already maxed it's data, in another the WiFi was busted, and the place I'm at now apparently hasn't had it in a year so I've been stuck on my phone. I will be home on the 5th and update will be either then or on the 6th depending on how the trip goes. Once again sorry for the delay.

Okay so it's been a while again. Mostly because I ended up getting slammed with 60 hours of work in the last week. Ontop of that we're missing a few key orders. If @Noco19 @Arrowfiend @Terraferma could get orders in preferably sooner then later I'll try to get an update out tonight or Sunday. Alternatively, we do a complete reshuffle of positions. I would be up to allow either depending on what players would prefer. Sorry again for letting this game languish but life decided to just not work out for me really.

(Sent you orders already, double check boss if not just pm me on our thread)

So you did Terra, missed it due to it showing up before my tech reply. Also with Noco leaving, the Teir 1 Spot in ICL is open if anyone wants to take it.

I'll be resigning as well.

I likewise shall be resigning.

The New Century War Week 5-6

The Deimos War

The ICL forces on Deimos had been expecting some sort of response, significant amounts of troops being routed to the moon by General Okafor to help fortify the planet. Rebel forces digging in in places and preparing for a guerrilla war, but they likely did not expect the response their effort got them. Within a week of the Deimos rebellion starting in earnest, the moon found it's skies darkened with a rather significant battle fleet, and many transports that came with it. Jobst Trunicht had sent much of the Earth Defense Fleet toward the planet, and within hours the planet was in a near total lockdown as the entirety of the 13th Autonomous Corps including the XT-01 commanded by Major Riddle, along with over a dozen regiments of armour and infantry from Earth, and much of the Reserve Fleet under Admiral Hawkins. While the rebels put up a good fight to start, they were drastically out gunned, orbital artillery soon forcing them on the back foot. Losing ground to the UEG army as the ICL troops were driven into the 'rat warrens' underneath the colony. Large enough for a Walking Armour to still function, the tunnels were better known as a nightmare that had been the results of massive mining efforts and expansion of living areas. Entire underground cities that the rebels started to fortify and turn into miniature fortresses. As it was an evacuation was considered by the ICL forces, but given how thoroughly Deimos was surrounded by UEG they couldn't risk an escape. With the amount of arms and material they had though, UEG was in for a painful campaign to root them out.

An example of one of the underground cities that ICL had fortified.
The Invasion of Phobos

Even as UEG was focusing on putting down the conflict in Deimos, the situation would quickly change, as ICL forces under the command of Anton Cotte launch a full assault on the Planet, establishing their own local space superiority as the ICL forces land on the moon and start to drive back the UEG garrison. While UEG troops actually manage to hold onto the moon, just a relatively small part compared to ICL's own forces, they are in dire straits as ICL orbital bombardment forces them to disperse into defensive positions to avoid detection. With no immediate reinforcements, it was not looking very good for Phobos, though at the very least the local population wasn't joining with the ICL forces, content to set on the sidelines for the most part as they were divided on who to support. UEG troops do manage to hold onto a singular factory complex toward the outer edges of Phobos' primary area. This factory was tasked with the development of a unit of RWA-01 'Ball's. The walking armoured units being put out just toward the end of the second week, and have not yet gotten to engage ICL forces.

ICL orbital artillery landing against UEG forces outside of town. Despite judicious use of Ortillery, ICL limits its use to outside populated centers, allowing UEG troops to hide within outer colonial towns to avoid destruction.
Other Important Information

-UEG produces its first regiment of walking armour, with a unit of WA-01s being fielded by Tomino's Martian Forces
-The first of ICL's new destroyer line is produced at Titan, Anton Cotte's men having co-opted one of the shipdocks above the planet.

-A further 3 RWA-01 Ball squadrons are produced on Earth
-Project SPL, a R&D team by Giorgio de Caravello finally returns results, a new, currently unnamed design for a UEG Cruiser. Currently it goes by the name 'SPL Cruiser'

(Sorry for the shorter update, trying to get back into the run here. Stats and research results to be sent out probably tommorow but maybe tonight)
