Protests Against Serbia and Its Allies on the Rise!

Protests advocating for South German intervention on behalf of the Ottoman Empire have only expanded this week. Protests in front of Serbian, Russian, and Romanian embassies in Munich are now common place, occurring almost twenty-four hours a day. While most of the signs and chants by the protesters are simply calling for the belligerents to stand down in their war against the Ottoman Empire, some more threatening signs and chants have begun to appear, although we do not have specifics at this time. The situation was worst at the Serbian embassy yesterday afternoon, when a group of protesters identified as members of the Hand of Osmanli began throwing rocks and various other debris at the embassy's guards and windows. South German police who were on the scene immediately began arresting those involved, with the protesters offering only token resistance against their fellow South Germans. The situation appeared handled when a final protester pulled out a firearm and opened fire on the embassy. The South German police quickly tackled the gunman, who proved able only to shatter one of the embassy's windows. The Hand of Osmanli issued a statement later that day claiming that their members should not resort to terrorist actions such as that the gunman took, but it is unclear at this time how centralized the group is for this statement to have much meaning. Following the shooting, police broke up the protests in front the three embassies and ordered the protesters to not return until more effective and tighter security can be arranged. The police have put forward a statement claiming to be looking for a way to prevent such an attack from happening again.

A Statement From the South German Government

On behalf of the South German Confederacy, I am horrified at the actions taken by a member of our country. I deeply apologize to the country of Serbia, and I assure them that the attacker will be prosecuted to fullest extent of the law. While the attacker has been identified as a member of the Hand of Osmanli, the group as a whole seems to condemn the attack, although it too is under investigate. My Director of Domestic Security has ordered the police to keep the protesters away from the Serbian, Romanian, and Russian embassies until tensions calm and police can find away to keep an event like this from happening again. Once again, on behalf of the South German people, I sincerely apologize to the nation of Serbia, especially those working at the embassy in Munich.

~Joseph Reinhard, Chancellor of the South German Confederacy

A Conversation of Crowns

Smyrna, in some ways the 'second city" of the Ottoman Empire, has been the cradle of the Empire's burgeoning industrialization. The first railroad tracks were laid here, and many of the Empire's most successful factories and trading companies operate from here.

It is also in many ways the most foreign of the Empire's cities. Hard line Ottomans often refer to it as "infidel Izmir." Konstantinyye is cosmopolitan, to be sure, but Smyrna has remained largely Greek-speaking, and was forcibly opened to foreign trade over the past centuries long before the rest of the Empire. As such the arrival of the new Greek King, though it came without much time for preparation and at a time when little resources could be spared for pomp, was met with a great show of hospitality. Flowers were thrown in the path of his car, Greek flags were waved from windows (the more prudent citizens being sure to also wave the Ottoman standard), and babies were held up above the crowds lining the streets so that they might get a glimpse of this historic occasion.

The King arrived directly at the city hall, which had been taken over by the Padishah and Kalifah, Sultan Murad V, and a small horde of staff and servants. The two monarchs briefly exchanged pleasantries in public before retiring to an inner room for the actual talks.

The details of their conversation would be a closely held secret. But after three hours they emerged with a draft. This was given to astonished aides to print, both in Turkish and Greek, with translators from both sides looking on to prevent "errors" that might impact the result.

The Smyrna Treaty

The governments of the Kingdom of Greece and the Ottoman Empire agree to the following:

1. That the Kingdom of Greece shall ratify and implement the Dolmabahçe Accords in full
2. That the Ottoman Empire will cede control and sovereignty of the city of Izmir, aka Smyrna, to the Kingdom of Greece.
3. That both governments shall refrain from any action that abuses the persons, property, and rights of their respective minorities
4. That the Ottoman Empire and Kingdom of Greece shall remain committed to mutual peace and prosperity, and not enter into any hostilities against one another.

This treaty shall go into effect immediately upon its ratification by both governments, and all necessary preliminary steps for the transfer of territory shall begin at once.

Signed,
[x] Padishah Murad V of the Ottoman Empire
[] King Victor Bonaparte of Greece

The Sultan informs an astonished aide to inform the cities mayor, who is directly ordered to consult with Greek representatives to insure an orderly transfer of power, and begin preparations to pack up all confidential government papers and any sensitive documents for transport to Konstantinyye. He is to inform his staff that those who do not choose to remain under Greek rule should report to the capitol for reassignment. He then immediately boards a train back to his palace, as the news leaks out and spreads among the thunderstruck population.

As a measure of safety, the Kingdom of Romania will close its embassy in the South German Confederacy, hereby shutting all diplomatic relation with this nation, as they seem not to control the actions made by some protesters, I sincerely hope the Confederacy takes control on this situation, we will open diplomatic relations when all this madness stops.

I cannot express how much sorrow i feel to hear about the dead of my dear cousin Joseph. A man i will remember for the last years of my life, for his joviality, and passion for life. I regret i am too old to travel to funerary rites but will be sending my son and crown prince for it. In other news the agreement reached with the Ottoman empire in a welcome news and we hope the Osman dynasty and the princes of serbia and Romania manage to reach agreements too without the need of bloodshed.Letter to King Victor Bonaparte from Emperor Napoleon II Bonaparte

Europe is on the verge of war. A war that will most certaintly rock the entire continent, destroying the great nations that inhabit it. It is hoped that, in proposing this treaty, that it's acceptance will not only avert this war, but pave the way for a lasting peace in Europe. This treaty is more than fair, offering all its signatories a part of Europe to call their own, so as to prevent further disputes. If this treaty is not signed, the blood of the coming war, and every war after that, shall be on their hands.

Prussia announces that, on further negotiations, it shall call a peace conference, to decide a peaceful outcome to this crisis, to be held in Berlin. It shall also recind its ultimatum on the condition that Russia agrees to attend the conference.

-Frederick III of Prussia

His Majesty's, and his Majesty's government, is appalled at the actions of the Prussian government, made without any consultation to the nations affected. The Kingdom of Denmark is most decidedly against being regarded as little more than a Prussian puppet, and His Majesty wishes to make it clear that any infringement of Danish sovereign, made by Prussia, shall be regarded as an act of aggressive expansion. Due to the expansionist behaviour of Prussia, the Kingdom of Denmark formally requests to be admitted to the Alliance Pact between the Kingdom of Sweden and Norway and the Grand Duchy of Finland, making the treaty truly Pan-Scandinavian. It saddens his Majesty greatly that the King of Prussia is using the Turko-Serbian War as a shameless front to futher his own borders.

The Russian Empire will send a delegation to the peace talks in Berlin, but we shall not hold off on military actions in the area as per our discussions with the many interested foreign powers. We thank the Kingdom of Prussia for seeing reason.

Grand Duke Edvard I of Finland has carefully reconsidered the treaty between The Grand Duchy of Finland and the Kingdom of Sweden and Norway to make it include the Kingdom of Denmark, following it's original statements and rules, adding only a few.

The Scandinavian Treaty

1. The Kingdom of Sweden and Norway, the Grand Duchy of Finland and the Kingdom of Denmark enter in a defensive pact, if any party is declared war upon, war will be declared upon all; all parties will have to assist each other during any such conflict. A declaration from either party on a country outside our treaty will have to be discussed with all parties.
2. The Kingdom of Sweden and Norway, the Grand Duchy of Finland and the Kingdom of Denmark will renew the embassies in each others capitals, as a sign of a renewed friendship.
3. The Grand Duchy of Finland will aid The Kingdom of Sweden and Norway and/or the Kingdom of Denmark in any technological or science matter they may require; similar requests may be asked by the people of Finland in their researches.
4. The Kingdom of Sweden and Norway, The Kingdom of Denmark and the Grand Duchy of Finland will, to each respective country, lower trading good tariffs in order for the Scandinavian trade to flourish.
5. The Kingdom of Sweden and Norway, Kingdom of Denmark and the Grand Duchy of Finland will embargo any aggressors to our cause; leading to great financial losses to any aggressors around the Baltic Sea.
6. This treaty can be nullified if either all parties sign for it's nullification or if a party no longer wants to take part in it, however it then taking a year to be nullified.

The Grand Duke Edvard I of Finland would like to point out to the Kingdom of Prussia that we do not appreciate you making us some part in your treaty, we take it as an offense, that our Grand Duchy of Finland and our respected Baltic friends would be in Russia's sphere of influence, and wishes Prussia to retract their statement. Any attempt to fail doing so will cause lasting damage to the relationship between the Grand Duchy of Finland and the Kingdom of Prussia.

Signed,

Grand Duke Edvard I of Finland

((Hey Endo, there are a few grammar errors that need to be fixed up, as the treaty now includes three parties, not just two. E.g. "if either party is declared war upon, war will be declared upon both." It should be changed to all, methinks. Eitherway, I think all understand the meaning anyway. :p))

I am shocked at the blatant and idiotic Prussians treaty, many leaders haven't discussed or taken part in the creation of that treaty, nor have many kingdoms such as Romania and Serbia agreed to be included in Austria's or the Ottomans sphere of influence, I hope the Prussian king thinks again about his stupid and autocratic plan for Europe, and that they have no right in choosing the fate of a nation.

HSIM Murad V appreciates the Prussian efforts to mediate the conflict, however we have several objections to it.

First and foremost, the Sultan has no interest in adding Romania or Serbia to his Empire, either formally or informally as part of his sphere of interest. His only demand from either country is peace and respect of Ottoman territory.

Further, he does not see why he must abandon his faithful friend the Sultan of Morocco, or accept that country should be placed under French hegemony against their will. That said, if the crowns of Spain and Morocco would consent to some sort of agreement where France would act as a sort of peacemaker and arbiter in exchange for certain concessions, Sultan Murad V would praise them and the French Emperor for seeing the wisdom and glory of peace.

The European provisions are outside the scope of the Sultan's agenda. But he is entirely open to further negotiation between the great powers to resolve the present crisis.
