Rise of the Southern Confederacy
Seal_of_the_Confederate_States_of_America.svg

Welcome everyone to the newest forum game. In the game you will role-play as the politicians/military leaders of the Confederate States, either as the President, VP, Cabinet members, Congressmen, State Governors, or military leaders.

Background

In the year of our lord 1860, a great tragedy befell the American Union. A radical tyrant named Abraham Lincoln was elected president. Unable to tolerate such a vile and radical man being there leader, the southern states left to form a more perfect union just as our forefathers had done against George III.

In 1862 general Robert E. Lee and the Army of Northern Virginia moved into union controlled Maryland. However the plan was almost found out when a Confederate private discovered the plans for the invasion among some cigars, most likely dropped by a Southern officer. General Lee bested General McClellan at the Battle of Shaprsburg and thus convinced the British and French Empires to recognize the CSA as an independent nation.

Lincoln realized he has lost and thus signed an armistice. In the Treaty of London of 1863, the USA recognized the CSA as a sovereign nation and renounced any claim to the Southern States. In the treaty proceedings Kentucky joined the CSA while Missouri remained in the union. The Indian territories also joined the CSA as the State of Sequoyah and the CSA's claim to the Arizona territory was recognized.

The year is now 1866 the last year of President Jefferson Davis's term in office. What does the future hold for the young republic, will it rise and prosper, or fall and collapse, only time will tell.

Rules and Procedures
The game is rather simple. Everyone roleplays their own, made-up character, while you get to create a background, birth date, location, and political party of their choosing. Later on in this post there will be a list of available political parties for you to join. Now, while most people will play as politicians, there is one person who will sign up to be the leader of the nation. From the game start, that will be President Jefferson Davis.

Now, updates are rather simple in this game. There will be Crisis Updates, which will give the Congress something to debate over and pass laws for. The next type would a War Update, which gives the President and the Congress something to debate over, if funds should be opened up for war, or what the Congress can do for the war effort, building railroads, hiring more soldiers, and so on. The President, however, must give the GM (Me and I will ask for a co-GM to help run the game) instructions on what to do in case of a war. He will be solely responsible for the rise (or downfall) of the Confederate States should his orders not prove sufficient enough. The final type of update is the Election Update. Although the first Congress is already in session, all the rest are decided by elections, in which how well the current ruling part handled the country the past election. When this happens, even though there may be more players from Party X, Party Y is the ruling party. Elections are also held every two years while Presidential elections are every six years, in the CSA the president may not run for more then one term.

New political parties can be formed by any character at anytime. The Constitution can also be amended if the 2/3 of Congress or the 3/4 of the States agree to do so.

If you have any other questions about the game please PM me.

Available Parties

Democratic Party- Conservative/Pro Slavery party
Whig Party- Liberal/Indifferent towards Slavery party

Party Conventions and Primaries
For Presidential elections all parties must hold a primary and a convention where they will nominate, debate, and choose who should be that party's candidate. Any member of the party can be nominated. If there is only one nominee then he automatically becomes that party's candidate.

((So should we sign up as custom characters or as historical figures, such as Robert E. Lee or Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson?))

((Historical or custom, works either way))

((In that case...))

Name: Robert Edward Lee
Position: General-in-Chief of the CSA
State: Virginia
Party: Whig ((Given Lee's views on slavery I'd say indifference is probably more accurate than being definitively pro-slavery.))
Short Bio:

The leading Confederate general of the War of Northern Aggression, Lee is extremely popular in both the Upper South and the Deep South. He is also well respected across the border in the United States, making him a likely successor to Jefferson Davis.

Name: Nathan Forrest
State: Tennessee
DOB: July 13, 1821
Political Party: Whig
Short Bio:

A cavalry and military commander in the war, Forrest is one of the war's most unusual figures.
Less educated than many of his fellow officers, Forrest had already amassed a fortune as a planter, real estate investor, and slave trader before the war.
He was one of the few officers to enlist as a private and be promoted to general officer and division commander by the end of the war.
Although Forrest lacked formal military education, he had a gift for strategy and tactics.
He created and established new doctrines for mobile forces, earning the nickname The Wizard of the Saddle.

Name: Nathanial White
State: South Carolina
DOB: August 24 1830
Political Party: Democrat

Bio:
A small-time politician and plantation from Charleston, White's political career was just starting out when the war began. Though he had no particular hatred towards Lincoln nor did he entirely approve of the system of chattel slavery, his loyalty towards his state prevailed. Later serving with distinction in the South Carolina 5th infantry, he has returned to the civilian life of a politician.

Name: Michael White
State: Sequoyah
DOB: May 6th, 1830
Political Party: Whig
Short Bio: Michael White was born to a family of frontiersmen who lived off of the land and had frequent clashes with Indians. From an early age he learned how to defend himself and eventually this translated in him joining the Confederate army when they seceded from the Union and serving in Robert E. Lee's army.

Name: Harry N. Turtledove, Indian Name: Flying Dove
State: Sequoyah ((COuld I have a map, so I an see the area in which I govern?))
DOB: the 20th April 1831, Cold Mountain
Political Party: Whig
Bio: Being born in the Area of Cold Mountain, NC, from the Cherokee tribe; where he remained after the trail of tears, He lived a simple life, being half Indian didn't make him very popular with the locals, however he was a strong man, and a good labourer. Then came the war, he signed up with all of his neighbours, and fought at some of the deadliest battles, earning his stripes as a warrior. When the war ended, he moved west to serve as governor of the new state Sequoyah, to serve his people now that the Yankee threat to his people is gone, we wants to protect his brethren from those who would subjugate them. His position to slavery is that he sees it as somthing imoral, however this New Confederacy offers protection to his people, something he has been seeking his entire life.

((Sequoyah is the modern State of Oklahoma.))

Not playin', just sayin': Southern Confederacy seems slightly redundant.

((It appears as though the south has more anti-slave politicians than the North during the civil war.))

((Well, the Whigs are only "indifferent." They certainly aren't radical abolitionists.))

((Well, the Whigs are only "indifferent." They certainly aren't radical abolitionists.))

((Indifferent to Anti slavery. This is like modern day Democrats winning the South by a landslide vote. No, actually its more implausible than that, seeing as how we just won a war against the Whig dominated Republican party. While anti-slavery wouldn't be completely taboo in the south, as the emancipation proclamation would not of been publicly shown in this timeline, nevertheless it would be rather unpopular, with most politicians south of Virginia owning at least some slaves.))

EDIT: ((Quote from wikipedia:
"Most Democrats were wholehearted supporters of expansion, whereas many Whigs (especially in the North) were opposed. Whigs welcomed most of the changes wrought by industrialization but advocated strong government policies that would guide growth and development within the country's existing boundaries; they feared (correctly) that expansion raised a contentious issue the extension of slavery to the territories."

In 1854, the Kansas–Nebraska Act, which opened the new territories to slavery, was passed. Southern Whigs generally supported the Act while Northern Whigs remained strongly opposed. Most remaining Northern Whigs, like Lincoln, joined the new Republican Party and strongly attacked the Act, appealing to widespread northern outrage over the repeal of the Missouri Compromise.
