(( Tywin's army already seems pretty inflated considering how bloodied he has been at this point. ))

((The Iron Fleet only has 100 longboats but these are the best of the Iron islands. The iron islands can muster more than 210 ships, afaik (around 300 I'd say), but only 100 of them are on par with southron galleys. Of course balancing can be more important than gameplay)).

(( I'm not sure how much it'd feel like Westeros if we started to try and balance everything rather than basing it on the lore. And I think this might be better discussed in the IRC rather than clogging up the thread. The IRC channel is #SKFK_Main by the way ))

I find the assertion of bastardise of Joffrey of King's Landing both intriguing and offensive for him. I personally don't know what to believe any more, as I wasn't there when he was conceived. Mace Tyrell is my friend and my brother-in-law, and I will never betray him. I'm a man of the Reach and will forever be. But my men will not march on King's Landing when my two sons are behind the walls of the Red Keep. Their lives are valuable for me, and I will serve my liege and the realm, but my warships won't sail to the Blackwater.

I despise Stannis Baratheon, who has forsaken our Gods and the religious freedom of the Seven Kingdom to adore a destructive god. He has lost his claim to the Iron Throne, and I will oppose him until my or his dying breath. First of all I have to protect the Reach from invaders, that's why I ask you, Lord Leyton, to send me your warships to unify the ships of the Reach and destroy those who oppose us.

((Seems about right, if we consider it as starting huge, and also I think it should be split into two forces, a hardened, bloodied army at Harrenhall and a green force of conscripts mustering in the Westerlands. And of course on the first turn the Lannisters would be hiring sellswords left and right to make up for their losses))

(( Still, sellswords don't grow on trees and especially not on the trees of the defeated, since no coin is worth actually dying for. ))

Your hesitation is understandable, given the delicate situation with your sons. With your testament, I can sense your loyalty for our Lord Tyrell. In response, I authorize Lord Paxter Redwyne the use of all Hightower ships to combat any foreign aggression.

The words of kindness between vassals brings warmth to my heart as Lord Paramount, and I do too sympathise with lord Paxter in this horrible situation in which his own blood has fallen prey to the false queen regent. I hope and will pray to the Seven each night that his sons may soon be rescued and our worries put to rest. Our grace's war council must soon convene privately to decide where the fleet would be best put to use.

299 Q1 - The Reachman Cometh

400px-The_south_ASOS_map.jpg

Map of the South, as it was during the War

The opening moves of the so called "War of the Five Kings" began proper in the year 298AL. The newly crowned King in the North had already pushed Lord Tywin's forces back into the Westerlands to the west, or to Harrenhal in the east. Tywin's war-bloodied troops were not entirely crushed, with his signature quick-mindedness he had regrouped his western forces to the Golden Tooth, leaving a garrison of about 5000 men there, along with the 10,000 strong Westerman Army behind it throughout the Westerlands. In the east, Tywin personally lead a force of 20,000 back behind Harrenhal, holding his last foothold in the Riverlands with a splinter force and brooding behind it with the remainder of his force. In addition to this, Tywin raised a further force of 5000 men in the Crownlands. These new troops were hardly a robust fighting force - Lannister gold paid for a portion of sellswords, whilst the ranks were evened out by local men pressed into uniform by intimidation, threats and bribing the local authorities.

Another blow for the Royal forces was the defection of the Ironmen. The Small Council had expected the Iron Islands to raid along the Northern coast in Joffrey's name, and eventually force Robb to return to the North. Unfortunately for Joffrey, Lord Balon had other plans. Crowning himself the Iron King, he burned all letters from King's Landing and returned no ravens.

The real threat to King Joffrey's seat came from further south, however. Angered by Ned Stark's execution, many Lords felt King Joffrey was unsuitable for rule and instead turned to other claimants to the Iron Throne. Whilst a few Lords, and many ships of the Royal Navy, turned to Stannis, the so called "Lord of Light", many swore fealty to King Renly. The Stormlords alone raised 25,000 troops for the King in Storm's End, whilst the Bannermen of Lord Tyrell, Father-in-Law to Renly, raised over 35,000, as well as 10,000 from Oldtown. And yet still, many of his levies remained in reserve, firstly in case of an Ironborn invasion, but also to take part in the Reach harvest.

250px-Mace_Tyrell.jpg

Lord Mace Tyrell of Highgarden

The force of King's Landing, on the other hand, was hardly that of King Renly's alliance. The Crownlander army of 10,000, along with the 6,000 Gold Cloaks of King's Landing was enough to defend the Walls of King's Landing from the Stormlands, but the Reach's forces alone was double that of King's Landing.

Regardless, all sides had high hopes of their chances.

((No, need, you're right. Fixing.

Edit: For clarification, raising levies/troops counts as an order. Hiring sellswords requires you to PM me with what sellsword company you wish to hire, and will have an NPC roll attached.

One of your orders can be splitting your army in two, so that one army can raise levies whilst the other marches.

Edit: Also, IIRC the figure for the Frey forces who went south with Robb is 2000, in case you were wondering what troops to assign Haresus.

Truly, these are obscure days for the Seven Kingdoms.

No sooner had Our noble brother, Robert, breathed his last then a sickness was thrust upon the realm. A bastard boy, spawn of incest, pollutes the Iron Throne with his mere being. When Lord Eddard Stark sought to extract this usurper, he was seized upon and murdered by command of Our very queen-consort. Both these individuals are accountable to the chaos that spreads, day by day, throughout Our domain. Both of them bear the name "Lannister". This House, once held in esteem, now perpetrates rebellion against the Seven Kingdoms; lust for power has driven them to this mad foolishness.

To the traitors who occupy King's Landing, We offer this final clemency. If the House Lannister shall submit to Us, endorse Our rightful claim, and surrender King's Landing, We shall grant them merciful leave to return to their own estates. Similarly, any minister of state who returns to Our fold shall be secure in their position. But if they should maintain their defiance, then rest assured: all that you covet and possess shall be appropriated from you, and distributed to those honourable lords whose loyalty did not falter at the moment of opportunity.

The aforesaid disorder having rendered the business of state deficient, We therefore make the following provisions to settle the affairs of Our realm:

Following the death of Lord Eddard of House Stark, Lord of Winterfell, Warden of the North, it is Our desire that the exalted position of Hand of the King and all accompanying duties should be bestowed upon Lord Mace of House Tyrell, Lord of Highgarden, Defender of the Marches, High Marshal of the Reach, Warden of the South.

In order to extirpate all subterfuge and ensure the safety of Our Grace, the following men are ordained into the Kingsguard:
  • Ser Loras of House Tyrell, henceforth Lord Commander of the Kingsguard;
  • Lord Bryce of House Caron;
  • Ser Emmon of House Cuy;
  • Ser Guyard of House Morrigen;
  • Ser Parmen of House Crane;
  • Ser Robar of House Boyce;
  • Ser Barristan of House Selmy (should he accept such an honour).

We sympathise with the plight of Lord Robb of House Stark, who has lost his father and sisters to the cruelty of Our common enemy, and thereby recognise that His rebellion, which could be construed treasonous, was necessarily provoked by Lannister perfidy. Therefore, We shall not wage war against him, nor subject him to condemnation, nor perform retribution against his lands and land-lords. Rather, We shall exercise such means as to resolve the dispute peaceably.

Finally, We call upon Our beloved brother, Stannis, not to raise arms against Us, but to furnish Us with such arms against the treasonous usurper and his minions. Following the removal of the perfidious prince, a great council of state shall be convened at King's Landing in order to settle the succession, without recourse to bloodshed or mutual suffering. It is an affront in the eyes of the Seven that brother should raise arm against brother. Let us not soil our honourable house, nor the legacy of our lately betrayed brother, Robert.

May the Seven-in-One God preserve these Seven Kingdoms,

~ His Grace, Renly of House Baratheon, the First of His Name, King of the Andals and the First Men, Protector of the Realm

250px-House_Tyrell.PNG

I thank his grace for the great honour that he has bestowed upon me and my son, and I swear that I shall aid him in taking good care of the realm and I expect my son will guard him well. I hereby announce that in the event of my parting from Highgarden to govern the realm alongside the one true king Renly, my eldest son Willas shall rule the Reach in my name. Despite the misfortunes of his physical state, his mind is strong and he is the kindest son a man could ask for and I know that he will make a good ruler.

To his grace I propose that Randyll Tarly, a soldier and military leader beyond description most will recognise, be put in charge of the vanguard where his skills may be well used.

Lord Mace Tyrell, Lord of Highgarden, Defender of the Marches, High Marshal of the Reach, Warden of the South and Hand of the King.

In that case,

Name: Rickard Karstark
House:Karstark
Location: Riverrun
Liege: King Robb I

OOC: As luck would have it, I just sent Rickard Karstark to Renly as an ambassador

I am very relieved to hear the words of Renly Baratheon, and continue to hope that his brother will follow his example. In any case, I Robb Stark, King in the North declare that Renly Baratheon, his allies and bannermen should be considered allies by Northern and Riverland lords and soldiers. Unless they violate the peace of our lands, their forces should not be harmed or obstructed, and if the occassion calls for it they should be assisted against the common enemy, the Lannisters. I agree that the terms of our seperation from the Iron Throne and the exact position of our borders, and other such disputes will be settled peacefully after the false King is deposed and punished.

I would like to thank my faithfull bannerman Rickard Karstark for undertaking the perilous mission to deliver my message of peace, and returning back with such swift success, despite his sons recent death in battle and the dangerous and arduous nature of the journey. With such men at my side, the Northern cause cannot fail.

-Robb Stark, King in the North
