The attack upon Dragonstone was the result of one with no tact for military strategy attempt to play at war. While my undying support is in service of the widow Arynn, it saddens me that my protests against the assault had fallen upon deaf ears and now the lives of five thousand loyal Valemen lie in the balance. As Stannis Baratheon has been known to be a just and honorable man in the past, I pray that he will understand these men were just following the orders of their Regent, Lysa Arynn. I would ask that after the horrific act of defiling the Church of Snow, that Stannis shows all of Westeros why he should be King, by sparing the lives of those captured. Our undivided attention should be turned elsewhere, against those who have desecrated the Iron Throne, not against a man that had bid us no harm in the past. Jon Arynn and Stannis held no feud between them, the Vale and Dragonstone should make amends in interest of maintaining stability across the realm.
the vale's planned attack was to remove stannises base of power, rob him of his legitimacy in the eyes of the sellswords who serve his army and the sellsails who man his galleys, for a king without a kingdom is no king at all
the vale does not lie as to its past intentions or coat them with honeyed words, for their intent was clear for the eye to see. all that can be said was that they were done with the intent of fufiling its duty to the north. the vale will hold to that standard of truth in its future dealings with the just king stannis, and is open to any proposal directed towards reconciliation with stannis and safety of the 5000 knights of the vale, although it must consult with its vassals before any such proposal is accepted. you let Davos seaworth move on from his crimes against the seven kingdoms to work for the benifit of the realm, we urge you do the same for the knights in your dungeon.

OOC:While Catelyn was unaware of just how bad things were, the fact that Lysa was less than stable and Sweetrobin was sickly was known even in Winterfell. Add to that the talk of any of those who'd accompanied Cat to the Eyrie but returned with her to the army of the North (i.e Ser Rodrick and Blackfish) and the stories would have gotten around.
The first news of this quarter was a repetition of the last one - King Stannis's daring actions at White Harbour. Aware the noose was tightening upon him, Stannis was all too eager to retreat back to Dragonstone and tend to his new hostages from the Vale. He took his remaining 20 ships, along with the unarmed transports, and left White Harbour (at least after temporarily turning the Sept of Snow into a Red Temple, though it was promptly reclaimed the moment he left port). Noting this, Daven Snow, now Commander of the Northern Kingdom's fleet, raced south to meet up with the River fleet and intercept Stannis.
Snow succeeded in intercepting with the Riverfleet, and caught Stannis off guard. Yet despite everything Daven Snow had carefully planned, what ensued was a rather embarrassing attempt at boarding, both fleets circled each other endlessly, hoping that eventually the wind would favour one or the other. Frustrated and irritated, Snow attempted another ram, which succeeded in sinking two of Stannis's smaller ships yet gave Stannis enough time to escape with his fleet. All too aware of his defeat, he rescued a few of Stannis's sailors from the waters and returned with the River fleet to the Saltpans.

Daven Snow rams Stannis's Fleet, to minimal success.
Daven Snow returned to see another drama unfold in the Riverlands. Tywin Lannister, very clearly noting that time was not on his side, moved his army North to take the Riverlands. The Blackfish, on orders to scout for a Lannister attack, noted this and alarmed Riverrun of Tywin's movements. Hoster Tully, posed with the choice of meeting Tywin on the field or allowing him to besiege him, took the latter choice in the hope that any advantage Tywin had on the field would be removed by the Castle walls. Though irritated that he wouldn't be able to finish off the Tullys immediately, Tywin saved face and besieged Riverrun.
Tywin's actions were mirrored in his beloved Westerlands, however, as King Robb's cavalry moved easted to besiege the Gold Tooth from the rear. Not yet aware that Stannis had left White Harbour, he also sent orders out for mobilisation across the North and sent 1,000 Karstark men to the Twins. Though a blunder, it was not a crippling one, and King Robb could at least claim to be making an effort to fight back against his enemies - though his plot to force the Gold Tooth to surrender failed.
The Assassination of King Renly, a controversial event that shaped the remainder of the War.
In the grand scheme of things, however, these were relatively minor events. Instead, all the talk was on the Capital, and the crisis in the besieging army. On the morning after the Tyrells had arrived at King's Landing, King Renly Baratheon of the Stormlands was announced by his Maester as dead - murdered by Brienne of Tarth (though she firmly denied it before fleeing, blaming it on some sort of demon). This turned a relatively simple war into a mess - firstly, the Tyrells no longer had their claim to the throne by marriage through Margaery. Mace Tyrell in particular had spoken against the other Royal Claimants, and found himself in a tricky situation of choosing between a "Heretic" or a "Tyrant". Secondly, the Stormlords, though grumbling, switched their support to Stannis, along with the small Florent host.
Third of all, it left the North isolated. Whilst at first they could depend on the south being won by Renly and hoping for sympathetic terms of self rule, they now had lost their only choice in the matter. Hateful of both Joffrey and Stannis, the only consensus in the rank and file of the Northern forces was that the Iron Throne was lost. Only Winterfell remained.
((Sorry Renly, we all know it had to happen. However, for being a great sport and picking the character that was going to die anyway, Syriana's going to get a reward of sorts in PM. It's a secret.
Also, I'm taking a while in updating the numbers because I'd rather get them perfect instead of rushing them. But I think advancing the plot is a good move. Orders will be due when I put the new numbers up, which should be tommorow))
OOC: just to confirm: renlys death was through an event and not a plot correct? and Syriana will not be leaving the game (perhaphs to mance or the florents?)

Once again, Stannis´fleet has managed to overcome an stronger enemy, and once again Stannis Baratheon remains undefeated in all his life. We have withdrawn from the North as our actions seem to have been misunderstood; we tried to liberate such honorable lands from a mad Lord who has decided to break his oath and go against his own murdered fahter´s will, but if the northeners believe we were just an invading force our honor demanded to withdraw and rethink our strategy. Rob Stark will be defeated in the field of battle, and no northener will say that Stannis Baratheon invaded his home.
We do not know why Brienne of Tarth decided to kill our brother Renly, although such action does not surprise us. Renly was a traitor who decided to sell his own family for an ephemeral dream of glory, and traitors are often surrounded by those of his own kind. We also asked our deceased brother to reflect upon his sins; let´s hope he did that before the murderer´s hand fell upon him.
We believe that House Tyrrell joined Renly´s false cause not for a treacherous spirit, but rather induced by the adventurous spirit of youth. Therefore, we offer our pardon to House Tyrrell and all those who fought under Renly´s banner if they join our true cause. Let the stag and the rose fight together one more time!
We also feel proud an honored that the Stormlords have returned to the path of reason, and encourage them to send emmissaries to Dragonstone to discuss our common strategy.
Stannis Baratheon the First of His Name, King of the Seven Kingdoms and Protector of the Realm, Lord of Dragonstone, Lord of Storm's End, Lord Paramount of the Stormlands, Warrior of Light, The Lord's Chosen and Son of Fire.
OOC: Please tell me Syriana is NOT going to be Danaerys!
the vale mourns the loss of the king Renly the Troubadour , he would have made a most gallant king. he will be missed dearly and the seven kingdoms are all the worst for his lost. and the vale will do all in its power to avenge his death.
should highgarden be in need for an ally we would like to offer the hand of Harold 'the heir' Hardying to Margery tyrell, once she has finished mourning her beloved husband of course. and open up discussions as to the formation of a bond between our two houses
we would also like to request a similar pardon from King Stannis and formally apologise for our past disloyalty.

I wonder, who would gain the most from the death of Renly Baratheon. The Florents have flocked to Stannis through his wife and as Renly is without heir, Stannis has reclaimed his rightful seat as Lord Paramount of the Stormlands. Need I remind you all that this was a seat which Stannis held for over a year during the War. A besieged seat he nobly defended from the Redwyne's blockade. And a seat that he has been coveting since Robert came to the throne and offered the title to a young Renly! There is no secret in Stannis' jealously of his brother, and he has chosen now to take it back, in a most cowardly way it seems.
Lords of Westeros, is this who you want to rule over you. A heretic king that worships some foreign god. A craven who murders his own brother. A kinslayer?
~ Tyrion Lannister, The Hand of the King
((ooc: Just a note, Tyrion does not know who or what killed Renly though he doesn't believe it was Brienne since she worshipped the very ground he steps on. He's simply throwing accusations at Stannis since he has the most to gain from Renly's death))
Your accusation of murder would make more sense had stannis been anywhere near his brother at the time of his passing, rather then on the other side of westeros. or had the accusation come from one who is not guilty of the murder of another lord paramount.
Brienne murdered renly not in spite of her love for him but because of it. as she could not have him she ensured that another could not.
for stannis to kill renly would have required magic far beyond the scope of imagination or reality, let alone possibility. spurned women or murderous dwarves, on the other hand are well within the world of fact.
who; i challenge has the most to gain from renlys death but the lannisters, by his death they remove an army from their doorstep and remove the might of the reach from their opponents, if there is more then meets the eye to this murder it is as like to be their fault as stannises, the lannisters have a history of killing kings after all, and it may have beoce a habit.

OOC: The moment I saw the "A Stag Falls", I thought I had seriously fucked up my war orders and got my army massacred, so if anything it was a relief to see it was just my canonical demise.
I am saddened to hear of the sudden and bizarre death of King Renly. My sympathies and condolences to his widow.
With Stannis unfit to rule due to the madness induced upon him by his foreign sorceress, it is my belief that the succession of House Baratheon then falls to the eldest of King Robert's illegitimate children, a girl by the name of Mya Stone, currently residing in the Eyrie. Whomever ends up on the Iron Throne, my position remains that he North and the Riverlands are a free and independent Kingdom of the North, and we will live in peace with a King who will recognize that fact.
OOC: Just throwing the idea out there. Also, was there no activity on the Ironborn front this turn?
