IC: The Green Party proposes that the $10 per tonne of carbon dioxide equivilant emissions currently in effect in British Columbia be extended nation wide. We also propose that this tax be linked to the income and corporate taxes, by mandating that those taxes be reduced by the amount raised by the Carbon Tax, keeping the overall tax burden unchanged. This will provide an effective tax cut for individuals and corporations which take responsible actions to reduce the damage they inflict on our shared enviornment.
In order to protect Canadian firms from being undercut by other nations that rely on high-carbon fuels like coal, we propose a Carbon Tarriff on imported goods proportional to the average tonnes of CO2 equivilant per killowatt hour in said countries, as assessed by a credible scientific body.
