In 1980, the United States stood at a turning point. In a close election, President James Carter earned Re-election, and continued his policies across the nation. As inflation skyrocketed, and prices rose, the world economy began to lurch downwards. The first to falter was East Germany, it's economy collapsed from under it, dragging down the Warsaw Pact, which turned to the USSR for help. It had been spending so much money on its military, that it simply couldn't support everything behind the Iron Curtain. On August 18th, 1982 the Soviet Union defaulted and the Central Government collapsed. In the United States, things were just getting worse and worse. Inflation reached an insane 2,000%, and a gallon of gasoline cost $5,105.23. It was on December 28th, 1982 that President Carter ordered that the Federal Government was to be dissolved, and the Federal Constitution was now defunct. With that, the United States of America ceased to exist.

And now, it is March 1st, 1983. You are here to take hold of a new nation, one that is rising from the ashes of the United States. There are many other nations like yours, and all will compete to become the successor to the United States of America, but at the moment you do not hold enough power to expand far from your power base. You are expected to start with somewhere around 25 counties under your control. You may name your new nation almost anything you want, but it has to make sense. (I/E if you own New England you may become the United Kingdoms of New England, and not something stupid like Dukeidstan)

To play this game, you will Roleplay with the other players in Warfare and Trade. I will give nations some basic Stats, but the rest is up to you. You will have to Roleplay your own Wars, and occasionally I as the GM will step in and write a small update, and declare a winner in the war so peace negotiations will start. White provinces are unclaimed and can be claimed by a new nation or a current nation as they expand. However, NPC nations will start to appear as you learn more from local governments and the sort. Diplomatic Relations with Foreign Nations could also come into play.

Sign ups are always encouraged and welcomed!

Why do I never get these pre-invites. I join all new forum games. Anyway, reserving San Diego to San Fransisco and east to halfway to California border.

Just realized San Diego is taken by the blue state. Can I have it, the blue state is way too big.

I would like to sign up, if that's possible. If I could play as something like the United States of the Carolinas and Georgia ? Thanks.

Each Nation has 25 countries under their control. king, you need to give me a nation name, and a government type. NikoHoI3 you have been added.

THE Principality of New York was born as a result of the disorganization, lawlessness, and overall anarchy following the fall of the United States. However, one man came to unite the communities of Long Island, widely regarded as the birthplace of the Principality. This man was William Ross, a 29 year-old male from the north shore of the island. Formerly a teacher of history at his local high school Ross came to be a charismatic leader and skilled military commander.

Following multiple weeks of fighting among the different Long Island communities, he became leader of the so-called Suffolk Legion, hardened National Guard and former United States Army and Marine Corps members which would participate in the defeat and annexation of several smaller independent states on the island. In late February of 1983, a council was called between the regional leaders of the Long Island states, with the most powerful and influential being Ross and his band of elite soldiers.

In this council held in the town of Mineola, he was made Chancellor of the Confederation of Long Island, primarily due to his unmatched charisma and his skill as a commander of men. The key resource that was then given to him was the manpower pool of the men of the island. Gathering under his command a powerful army that were united behind his charisma and leadership qualities, he proved himself in battle near the Bronx and Queens against local warlords, where urban combat ended in resounding victories for the Confederation, as well as many prisoners, territory, and large sums of money from the captured warlords being subdued.

After leading former National Guard members in battles against anarchists and local warlords, he secured control of New York City in a heated week-long battle against a coalition of warlords that had come together to stop Ross's campaign. With the single largest city now under his control, Ross announced the formation of the Principality of New York with himself as monarch, Prince William I Ross. Solidifying his power as a trusted leader, he centered his nation around the key city of New York. Wishing to explore his talents as a skilled military commander, William plans on both expanding his realm and rebuilding his economy into the strongest in what was once the United States. Remaining under his personal command is the Suffolk Legion of many thousands of riflemen, snipers, engineers, and otherwise which are hardened from years of service in the pre-anarchy military and the campaigns to take Long Island, New York, and the surrounding areas. The Legion remains as one of the most skilled military units in the region.

----

Acting as monarch of New York, I would like to ask the King of New England if he would be interested in a pact of non-aggression, as well as a defensive alliance, to protect one another in the event of war with another nation?

Prince William I of New York
House of Ross

OOC: Hannibal, the blue country may be big, but it isn't that powerful and can't raise an army as large as, said, New England or New York.

The Founding of the Chesapeake Confederation

The nation that would be known by that name was formed out of the ashes of Washington, D.C. and the surrounding area (it would locate its capital in Baltimore partly from the chaos and rioting that occurred in D.C.) and by March, 1983, stood as one of the leading powers in the Post-Union America; however, that seven month period from August to March was one of fear, chaos, and death… the Confederation would likely have failed if not for the genius of its first President, Joshua Graves.

Graves was born in Baltimore, in 1947, and by the time the crisis that would bring the United States, and much of the world, crashing down, he had become a successful and respected businessman. In the immediate aftermath, just after the immense shock had started to subside, and immediately prior to the rioting and sheer madness that would ensue, he realized that a new nation, a nation built on freedom and liberty, had to be formed. By the end of August, 1982, Baltimore had calmed down, more or less, and Graves quickly used what infrastructure and communications that were available to bring the leading officials in the city to meet at the City Hall. After two days of debating, discussing, and outright fighting with one another, the reached an agreement to form the Republic of Baltimore; the first city of the Confederation was truly organized on the First of September, 1982. The following weeks saw other such city-states emerge from the wreckage, some friendly to Baltimore, others seeming to be more interested in plunder and wealth, rather than trade and progress.

Again, it was Graves who brought the bickering leaders of these petty ‘countries’ together; on 8 October 1982, the small towns around Baltimore and Arlington (the largest city-state to attend the meeting) all agreed to form the Potomac League, built on the ideals of liberty, free trade, and mutual protection.

Unfortunately for the City of Monuments (as the vainglorious leaders of D.C. chose to refer their city as), the formation of the League went unnoticed its leaders, and on Thirteenth of October, 1982, the war of the Potomac began; Joshua Graves, commanding the Army of the Potomac (a force of over three thousand men) clashed against the forces of D.C. on the outskirts of the old American capital on 22 October, 1982. The League forces smashed through the Army of Washington, and the following day, D.C. joined the League.

The following few months, the League continued to expand; it dominated the trade and production throughout the region. By the end of 1982, the League was a veritable nation in its own right, and on New Years Day, 1983, the delegates from all the League Cities signed the Constitution of the Chesapeake Confederation, which, modelled after the earlier American Constitution (though Joshua Graves, who would write most of the Constitution himself, worked diligently to ensure that it could not be loosely interpreted and abused like the American one), became the law of the land that very day. The election campaign for President of the Confederation began the following week.

It came as no surprise that Graves, the man who had now put his whole life into the creation and well-being of the Confederation, would become her President; one 7 February 1983, he was inaugurated as the First President of the Chesapeake Confederation.

Well if I can't have San Diego, I need to rethink my strategy (it's naval based). What are other big naval ports? Any suggestions on where to go to be a peaceful merchant republic?

New Orleans is a good one. Also San Francisco. Another good one would be Seattle, actually.

Could I have the coast between Seattle and SF? If that is to large, then New Orleans and surrounding areas.

Edit: Actually could I have New Orleans, and a few areas around it, not all 25, but have them more fortified than usual?

It will have to be New Orleans. What will your nation's name and government type be?

I edited my above post. Fortress port of New Orleans. Merchant Republic/admiralty (naval based trade empire). Random question, will people be able to use Hawaii or Alaska?

Birth of a Nation

A great nation was born out of the ashes of the U.S,A, the United States of Georgia and Carolina. The incompetence of the post-union U.S.A, lead to the decision of a man named Joseph Kilpatrick to create a country. Joseph graduated from the College of Charleston and soon became a political activist, campaigning in these same counties that are part of this wonderful nation. After seeing former U.S.A break apart he decided to create a nation of his own. On, March 6th, 1983 after a each county voted the U.S.G.C was formed. A Constitution was written up and was decreed on March 28th, 1983. A snap election was held on March 30th, 1983 Joseph Kilpatrick ran against a man named Josh Taylor a socialite from Savannah. The final result was Joseph Kilpatrick-67.8% versus Josh Taylor-33.2% Now the country with President Joseph Kilpatrick will lead to glory in which the world has never seen!

You cannot have "Heavily Defended" areas. You get 25 counties.

Alaska and Hawaii are open.

The rise of the Navy
An admiral in the Navy, Dave Cooper was a man who did what needed to be done. And when the U.S. fell apart, Dave, then stationed in New Orleans, did what needed to be done. He used his naval power and his marines to quell the rioting, saving countless lives, and the city, in the process.. In response to his heroism, the people of New Orleans gave him the city to do with what he wished. While Cooper could have taken over and named himself dictator for life, he instead established a republic with strong ties to the navy, and trade. In this republic, elections are held each ten years, so Cooper has plenty of time to rebuild the city.

OOC: But they're so far away!

The Suffolk Legion

The Suffolk Legion is, effectively, a conglomerate of many skilled veterans of military origin.

The Suffolk Legion began as a marauding group of ex-Army and Marine veterans and now National Guardsmen which had been mobilized by the State of New York, shortly before the complete collapse of the United States Government. These men, almost exclusively from Suffolk County (the larger of the two counties on Long Island), were now mobilized and leaderless. However, when they heard the words of William Ross, who had gone from history teacher at a high school to a public speaker attempting to hold his local community together, many began flocking towards him with promises for peace, prosperity, and unification at whatever cost. With suddenly several thousand highly-trained soldiers and National Guardsmen under his command, he began to launch campaigns to seize territory, either through "gunboat diplomacy" or through all-out warfare. From the first days of January 1983 to the last several weeks of February, they fought several battles against the forces of nearby city- and town-states without a single defeat. It was at this time that the Legion fell under Ross' command personally as a sort of paramilitary force.

It was largely due to the effectiveness and long military record of the Legion that forced the leaders of the states on Long Island to a council to unite the island under Ross' leadership. Following this council on February 27, 1983, Ross now had not only the battle-hardened Legion but also the forces of towns across the island, including troops from Nassau County. It was then, as Chancellor of the new Long Island Confederation, that Ross launched a massive campaign to secure Queens, Brooklyn, the Bronx, and, lastly, New York City itself. Having secured a large amount of equipment from Army armories across the island, they crushed the troops of the warlord coalition that had gathered to fight and defeat the Confederation, albeit unsuccessfully.

With the capture of New York City, the largest and most heavily populated city in the whole of the United States, Ross declared himself Prince of New York and Long Island. He raised a proper field army and constructed a small but formidable fleet to serve his realm and to assist in expansion and home security and garrison. However, the Suffolk Legion, now a heavily experienced and skilled force under the personal command of the Prince, remained in service as a paramilitary force and the garrison and "home guard" of the capital, New York City, and William's new in-construction palace near downtown Manhattan.

~ Excerpted from "The Rise of William of New York" by Edward Huntington, published March 1983

The Rise of An Army

The creation of the Armed State of the West began, in a sense, in early 1982 with the passage of the Guardians of Freedom Act passed by the Arizona State Legislature in February of 1982. This act was passed in large part by the aggressive anti-immigrant feelings of the new governor of Arizona, Andrew Farkins. The law allowed the governor of the state to use the National Guard to as a type of second police force, with the intention to be used to fight illegal immigration. However, Governor Farkins used the law for much more than that, turning the state of Arizona into a Police State, with intervention from the federal government not occurring due to its impending collapse. In the chaos following the government's collapse, Governor Farkins took swift action, sending the National Gaurd to capture Southern California and the Area around Las Vegas, as well as abandoning all pretense of representative government and forming the Armed State of the West. He now rules as Generalissimo Farkins over his subjects in the Southwest, ruling with an iron fist and from the barrel of a gun.

The Armed State of the West will be sending military units to the city of San Francisco to bring this area under our control. Those who do not follow instructions given to them by a soldier in the Western Army will be shot. By the end of June 1983 50,000 men from the city of Los Angeles, 40,000 men from the cities of San Diego and Phoenix, 30,000 men from the city of San Francisco, and 10,000 men from the city of Las Vegas will enter the Army. Failure for over 90% of this number of men from each of these cities to enter the Army will lead to the Literal Decimation of any disobedient city.
