Honestly the most baffling thing I found about reactions is that they're all public information. I don't just mean the reaction score on a post, that's normal these days. I mean how you can go into your profile history (or someone else's profile) and see exactly who reacted to each post, which is something most sites don't allow for non-moderators. I'm not sure why this feature exists, especially given all the pro-privacy stuff coming out of the EU. I guess in the optimistic case you could see who disagreed with you and have a civil discussion? In reality it just leads to users X-brigading users they don't like or calling their vote out publicly in the topic (which is about as effective as someone whining about downvotes).

Personally I find that helpful because I know there are posters that agree with me a lot on some topics, and posters that reliably disagree, but if someone who usually agrees with me disagrees (or the reverse!), or someone gives some posts in a thread agrees/likes and others disagrees, I give more attention to that feedback.

I do agree it's tedious when people do the "Tell me why you disagree with me, (user), you Internet Coward!" shtick. But I don't see that as a MAJOR problem, and I don't really agree it's necessarily an issue to see who's reacting to your posts. Why should your opinion be more anonymised than your replies?

This behaviour would be against our CoC. If you encounter such a thing, feel free to report the offender.

Respectfully disagreeing

Our forums and social platforms welcome players, Paradox employees and moderators from diverse backgrounds and opinions. It is impossible to agree with everyone, but it is possible to disagree constructively to allow real discussions. There is no need to turn disagreements into heated arguments. Rather than letting these threads become flame wars please agree to disagree. Unconstructive reactions and disagreements will be deleted and subject to sanction.

/edit: Asking other users (also in public) why they disagree with some post is NOT against the rules. If you genuienly can't imagine why a user would disagree to your post, feel free to ask. Don't necessarily expect an answer though ;)
And DO NOT ask multiple times.

I'm quite new to this forum and I was very amused by the "respectfully disagree" button. On the one hand, it’s cool that you can only disagree respectfully, but on the other hand ... I don’t know, this is the first time I’ve come across this and I think I’m starting to like it :p

It was actually quite common in the early days of Web 2.0. I don't know anymore if Facebook was actually the first to have "Like"/"Dislike" reactions, but they were among the first.
Many others followed suit.
Then, after some time, Facebook got rid of the "Dislike". Only "Like" remained.
Many others followed suit.
Then, after some time, Facebook implemented other reactions next to "Like".
Many others followed suit.

etcetera
