I really can't believe I'm gonna suggest this...

after watching the flurry of... interesting commentary.... from accounts that are 10 seconds old in one specific game's forum over the last few days...

Paradox should probably think about going full-on Blizzard-mode on their forums and requiring a registered/activated game code linked to any forum account to post to that forum.

It really pains me to say it, but seeing people that login and post 8 page rants and stir up trouble that causes monkey-poo flinging fights that go on for pages and pages is just tiring and if I wanted that level of stupid in my life I'd register on reddit.

They already do that for any of the game's suggestion/bug/AAR etc. subforums.

I don't know why it shouldn't be possible for them to go a step further and restrict acess to a game forums the same way.

It's possible for them to do so within bounds of the forum software of course. It would mean massive change in the utility of the forums for anyone who doesn't want to link his Steam account though: AARs aren't locked away to begin with, mods are on Steam Workshop, suggestions are not very essential as the main discussion tends to be on the main forum, bugs get fixed eventually (hopefully), hotfixes come through Steam and it's not like it's impossible to provide repro steps and the like beyond bug subforum to begin with. I.e. the features currently locked away are actually quite minor.

"I don't like rant threads, so I'm gonna start my own thread to rant about that. That'll show 'em!"

I don't think any company should go full on Blizzard. This year they got themselves for Christmas a particularly tattered reputation. I still avidly play Diablo 2 and Brood War, but I'm here because I shun Blizzard and modern their practices, especially taking into account their newest camaraderie with Twitch. Regardless of whether it's a company or a person, if you need to loom a threat to keep me in strict check then it's time we each go our own way.

If people want to rant, let then rant. If it's a matter of impulsive anger then it will pass as quickly as it has stirred. And if it's a thoughtful rant, then maybe rather than cleanse we should consider their points. Besides, I don't believe that you read EVERY SINGLE thread that's posted on here, so no one is forcing you to read eight bloody pages of rant threads.

Don't get me wrong, I don't mind rant threads. Not at all. I don't even mind angry righteous fury. I've been known to collect my fair share of "friendly notes" from moderators.

What I hate is anonymous sock puppet anger from (likely) troll accounts. If they don't want to restrict it to "only game owners can post" then maybe "only game owners can create threads" or something similar. Because the barrage of Registered-1-hour-ago "OMG I HAVE 200 HOURS WITH THIS GAME!!! SO BROKEN!!!111" rage threads gets repetitive and tiring.

As I read this I realised something. I haven't noticed this myself to the extent that you describe, but I haven't been following as keenly lately, so this influx must be related to the massive sales that have been stringing for something like two months now. After the New Year's all should quiet down.

As a long time Paradox-Blizzard fan, i say no.

Please no.

Paradox its better than that. In every single way.

In the early 2000s could anyone have possibly imagined these words spoken unironically? Anyone save for Mark Kern. They’ve been rotting inside for a long time, and the rot has been surfacing slowly over the recent years, but this year it burst, like a chestburster xenomorph. Like I said, I still regularly play their classic games, but I can’t say I’m sorry. I’ve been waiting for this, and the best is yet to come! They should hurry up and turn into compost for future developments in the industry, whatever they are, they will be something new.

Sorry for the offtopic. I too emotional when it comes to Blizzard.

Oh, from a game-producer standpoint I don't want them to go that route. Blizzard has made me sad, but that discussion was done to death in another forum.

I miss the old Blizzard from their game studio standpoint. But this forum has been slipping into the toxic waste dump that most forums are and it bugs me. Let the toxic waste dump stay on the Steam forum where it belongs.

I do not roam the entire forum, but have observed that shitposting on the Hoi4 board is controlled through active moderating. And of course the unregistered riff raff is kept out of the OT, which is the important thing. :D

My dealings with Blizzard on the other hand consist of those sons of bitches locking my disabled Brother out of Starcraft II every time they updated the effing game, and I would either have to hang on the phone with him and walk him through getting the new security code from his email or driving over to his apartment and fixing it myself, all the time assuring him he is not being a bother. As incredible as their games are (they help keep my Brother from crawling inside a whiskey bottle), if Blizzard HQ burned down I would not piss on the flames until I was sure there was nothing but charcoal.

Yes let's close these social forums to those who sport certain owned item icons (arm bands) and are consumer (politically) correct. I'm willing to buy website style DLCs as well.
There is a certain irony, not to be evil, in the fact that you're kind of exemplifying what I'm talking about.

Your response is snarky and semi-toxic, your forum account is "On Probation", proving that you've racked up plenty of warnings, and you have no "forum armbands" at all.

As someone who has been on probation for a long time before (and been forum banned), I can feel the pain of people who have been forum moderated. But I also want to know that the people screaming and causing the toxic shock and noise at least have the right to complain.

You pays your dime before you gets your whine.

Oh my. He responded in a way I don't like! Ban he, mods, ban he!!!
Social engineering will lead to less activity. It's a good idea for Blizzard who have lawsuits, massive networks, and a childish RTS/MMORPG genre. This is an adult genre oriented corporation so, limitations will only limit participation and sales.

This stops now, before I have to issue infractions for rudeness and trolling.
