Background.

I was playing as the USA and I decided a game as the FRG would be in order. Defeating Nazi Germany in 43, I created the FRG. I cheated by going into the save file and assigning the AI a build order of a large amount of factories which would be ready in 1946. THis was to make up for the very truncated old Nazi Germany and more importantly I didn't want the AI to build to much rubbish I would eventually winfd up not wanting. I wanted a fresh start so kept playing as the USA with the goal of annexing Japan.

Japan fell around Feb 45 and I spent a few months recreating various nations and tweaking the borders espicially in China as I couldn't liberate nationalist China. Various chinese mini states now exist. Eastern Europe up to Poland and Romania were also liberated ahead of the Soviet menace. I then released all puppets. I'm going to try and rebuild the Fourth Reich which may be diffcult as ATM its a very democratic and weak country. It has large reserves of various resources though as I gave them some as the USA along with Naval units. As a reward for loyal puppet service in the war against Japan the FRG also rules Taiwan, Dailan, and Jamaica.

ScreenSave9.jpg

Militarily the FRG is reasonably weak with a few panzers divisions, less than 20 inf divisions, 3 tac bombers but a strong navy of more or less modern destroyers and a few aircraft carriers the Americans didn't want. The FRG also has a few jet fighters and a reasonable amount of V1s the USA built because I was bored and I gave them to the FRG. I've never played a late game of HoI2 so I've never used nukes, V1/V2s and I've hardly used jets either. The goals for this game.

1. Have fun.
2. Build some sort of Reich
3. Defeat USA/England/USSR.
4. Build a nuke (probably won't use it).
5. Play around with late game techs.

Manpower is low, average generals, bad sliders for an aggressive war and the USA has a massive army and navy from my game and a lvl 6 nuke reactor. Not sure how big the Soviet hordes are. I have the USA doctrines for the most part and most of the Nazi Germany tech teams but lack the Nazi tech teams (Goering, Donitz, etc).

Guderian and Mannstein are still kicking arond though. I doubt I will be able to declear war on anyone until mid 1948 or so due to the sliders. Comapred to Germany in a normal HoI game you don't have Austria and the Czech lands to help out, low starting manpower, missing tech teams, no in game historical events to help you out and the USA/USSR at the height of their power. I also have great sliders but at least the minsters aren't to bad.

ScreenSave10.jpg

Not to despair though. The FRG has a powerful navy equipped with modern aircraft carriers courtesy of the Americans. Since I just loaded the game I haven't got around to renaming them.

Awesome. Ive always wanted to play a game with the FRG in NATO. Never been able to. I will be watching this.

I'm not in Nato. I have formed an alliance of convenience with the USA for blueprints and the like. Japan wants to rebuild its empire!!!!!

ScreenSave13.jpg

Last I played as the USA the Phiillpines did have a couple of transports and a few divisions. Wonder if they can invade Japan which shouldn't have alot of units yet?

Vichy avoided being absorbed by the Germans probably due to the Americans (me) invading the Balkens in 42 or so. The negotiate with Darlan event fired and I accepted to get US territories in Morroco. The world map is a little different than what happened IRL and I gifted some naval bases to the FRG as the USA- Truk, Taiwain, Jamaica, Dailan. I couldn't DoW Vichy as the USA as I was a democracy. Its on my kill list once I have become a bit more autocratic so I can DoW countries. Tentative date of the 4th Reich expansion is roughly 1948 depending on random events and the like.

With the surrender of Nazi Germany several teams are unavailable. Siemens replace I.G Farbin as the premier industrial team while Guderian comes out of retirement. Unlike the previous Regime Guderian assist researching naval doctrines, something the current regime is weak at. American blueprints aid the process.

A year had passed since return of sovereign power FRG. Herr Heuss had shown some increasingly autocratic tendencies as he seemed to take a dim view of some of the free press that was starting to circulate after years of oppressions by the Nazis.

ScreenSave17.jpg

VE day was now over 3 years in the past and for the most part peace was established in the post war world. A phoney war was happening in Aisa between Japan and the Phillipines. The Soviets had also got involved but there were no invasions happening.

On the home front the focus was on recovering fomr the last war. Relations and trade with the Soviet Union continued to improve relations. No new military units had been built, and the small Bundeswehr remained garrisoned in central Germany.

ScreenSave19.jpg

A single squadron of tactical bombers had been ordered from the USA which brought the air force to a grand total of 12. Some foreign military attaches pretended to be concerned at the forces available to the FRG. A stockpile of several V1 weapons were left over while a new rocket site had been built and placed. The foreign office concerned at perceptions offuture German aggressions were quick to point out the peaceful applications rockets could have. Werner Von Braun was working in the USA, and it was no secret what the new Germany was producing. Perhaps the Germans will be the first to land on the moon?

ScreenSave18.jpg

No military expansion in the new Germany. Despite being one of the most advanced countries in the word industry remains focused on peacful pursuits.

wow, interesting
who do you plan on conquering first?

To make the ministers believable you should use the Freedom cheat to only modify the Right-Left and Democracy-Autocracy sliders til you have a more autocratic government. Schumacher and Heuss are hardly likely to try to rebuild the Reich! I suggest pretending that a 'coup' takes place.

Apart from that, great ideas. I will watch with interest!

Mico94 the plan was to go Austria/Czechoslovakia/Poland with a side helping of Venezula for oil.

Meadow I'm not familiar with that, but fighting a war under less than optimal conditions I'm prepared to do.

I was hoping for a 50/51 Barbarossa Pt 2 and in this world Gemany never invaded Denamark and Norway last time around.Theres been a couple of problems.

1. The game has started to chug along very slowly. Its playable if it doesn't get any worse.
2.

News from eastern Europe has started to filter in. Assuming on a few years of peace the red bear was waking.
ScreenSave20.jpg

Left with no choice the peaceful Germans began a limited military rearmament.

ScreenSave21.jpg

I need to pay more attention to my popups. THe USSR is in an Alliance with Bulgaria and at war with all of the Chinese mini states. It seems my post war lotsa little free states isn't working.

2 years had passed and the FRG had reached another milestone. The Soviet Union continued to gobble up small defenseless nations. Refugees flooded into the FRG province of Dalian.

ScreenSave1.jpg

On the home front Herr Heuss continued his feud with the free press and was becoming somewhat erratic and increasingly autocratic. German scientists had discovered all sorts of new and interesting technologies and it was blieved their small army was probably the most modern in the world. The army continued to grow in size due to the Soviet threat. A diplomatic charm and trade offensive had lead to ecelent relations with France, UK, the Soviet Union, Belgium and the Netherlands. Resources continued to flood into the Republic via trades with the above countries.

ScreenSave4.jpg

Of course the army continued to be deployed in a defensive manner. Fortifications were also completed in Konigsbergs equivilent to the old Maginot line fully completed.

This looks interesting. Who do you plan on attacking first? Poland, Austria and Czechoslovakia for the Germans?

ps to may the game speed up load up as the USA and USSR and delete a bunch of units. That way the game should go faster.

The games grinding along at an acceptable pace. I'm thinking of hitting the Czechs first. Very tempted to do an early Barbarossa. The border is weakly defended and I suspect most of the red army is off in the east as they are at war with the Chinese survivor states. Its a large window of opportunity I could exploit and I could libetate the Ukraine and the like as puppet states. I'll be outnumbered about 5/6-1 but the USA has around 117 divisions in Suwalki. I could also form an Alliance with Poland and use their troops as well.

Since I'm still mostly a open society and the like I can hopefully keep the partisan levels down as well. I can't get the bitter peace event so I would have to go for annexation. If I timed the invasion right winter would start and hopefully I could gut the USSR enough to make a difference. Do the real anti Bolshevik crudade. The Czechs are just in the way unfortionately. Right now the Bundeswehr can only muster 50 odd divisions. Barbarossa 49 maybe instead of 50/51. Its gonna take to long to pay down dissent ATM so once I'm low on manpower I can use spare IC to do things like pay down dissent.

very nice AAR. but how do you plan on contesting american and communist dominance? surely you cant build an army to compete with theirs without a substantial ally

I'm allied with the USA. How much use the AI will be???? I'm thinking of building a coalition to invade the USSR if I do it in the next year or 2 or waiting and going in with 200 divisions. How hard can it be? I suspect the bulk of the Red army is elsewhere.

ScreenSave5.jpg

ScreenSave6.jpg

And heres an intelligence report. Last time I checked it was 600+ divisions with a larger airforce. I'm guessing the red army is a bit smaller and is deployed wrong. If they are still stuck in China in 49 its tempting to have a go.

ScreenSave7.jpg

Finally after checking the screens the UK and Allies have now got GoI with the Czechs and Poles. Sounds familiar:p

I just thought of playing a FRG game before, and am halfway through the battle, but with the UK. Now that you have this AAR going I dont have to anymore!

I'll just sit back and enjoy the ride here

Soviet Aggression knows no bounds. Free people around the world tremble in fear.Diplomats from all over Europe rush to Berlin for conferences. The Teutonic Eagle must turn into a Phoenix and arise from the ashes of defeat.....

ScreenSave8-1.jpg

Envoys went out across the land. Most democracies were only to happy to enter the German/USA protective alliance. Old Europe still sheltered under the "Allies" of the last war. The ones who sat by and let Hitler and Stalin divide Europe between them. A new alliance tentativly called "NATO" was proposed. The USA Germany and Central Europe were its primary founders.
ScreenSave0.jpg

The border situation as of 21/6/48. A large American army have been enjoying the limited amounts of R&R available in Suwalki for the last 3+ years. The entire Bundswehr were garrisoned in the remnants of East Prussia.A whole 58 divisions of which 15 were motorised. Outnumbered around 10-1. Nato may be in trouble.

ScreenSave1-1.jpg

ScreenSave2.jpg

ScreenSave3.jpg

Due to the extreme situation and Soviet aggression against the free democracies of the world only one outcome was available. On the 7 year anniversary of Barbarossa, operation Bismarck was a go. Unlike the last effort the modern Bundswehr had no illusions about slavic inferiority. The free peoples of the Baltic Republics and the Ukraine would be set free of the Communist yoke.

ScreenSave4-1.jpg

About 2-3 years early than planned. See how it will turn out.

The Bundswehr crash into the weakly defended Soviet border. Once again Stalin underestimates the Germans. Operation Bismarck is on.

ScreenSave5-1.jpg

Another break through point.
ScreenSave6-1.jpg

Success the new Bundswehr scores its first victory's.
ScreenSave7-1.jpg

Even the Greeks hate the Soviet horde. They're not even in NATO.
ScreenSave8-2.jpg

The Americans lend me a few divisions. I'm only to happy to accept. Eventually they let me play with all their toys. The Bundswehr shall be the speartip.

Good luck!

Show those Commies who is boss... again... and hope the Americans will actually do something!

The Americans get trigger happy. Haven't seen that before. I kinda had plans for Kiev:(

ScreenSave16.jpg

Leningrad appears undefended. A quick nava assault captures the city while the reborn Kriegsmarine sink fleeing ships.

ScreenSave17-1.jpg

A quick armored thrust captures Moscow. German industry starts to feel the strain of supporting the army in the field.
ScreenSave18-1.jpg

The grand pocket is formed. Soviet units are cut off. Can the Bundswehr and the Americans contain the trapped hordes? Valient Poles sally forth with the intention of reclaiming Polish lands lost at the end of the last confict. Resources captured with the fall of Moscow should help but supplies are getting critical.
