First off, great patch. Looks good.

However, when I start the game, the music comes in with a hideous scratchy noise that doesnt go away. Playing the music files with winamp doesnt reproduce it.

I turned the music off, however the unit selection sound for aircraft does the same thing. Its very loud, and makes playing with the sound impossible. :(

System: P4 2.4 on Asus Motherboard, soundblaster Live! value, Klipsch 4.1 speakers.

Another thing to try is lowering your sound acceleration.

Could you give us your complete system details please. There's a sticky at the top of this forum that gives you a "template" to fill out that will help us immensely in getting you sorted out quickly.

In the interim there are a couple suggestions I can throw your way...

1. rename the avi folder to avi_old in case the Binkplayer is leaving something behind that it shouldn't. All this will do is disable the opening splash screens and jump you directly to the game.

2. Make sure that you have updated both your sound and your video drivers to the manufacturer's latest versions. Also make sure you've run Windows Update and applied all of the critical patches as well as any of the recommended patches that might apply (both sound and video issue patches since either could be at fault). Update your mouse driver too.

3. Make sure you're running at least the latest version of DirectX8.1 or the new 9.0, then run dxdiag.exe and perform a complete set of tests.

4. If you're still get the problem, try reducing the hardware acceleration...or turning it off all together.

5. I don't know if you have any other game-type devices attached to your system, but I've seen the occasional problem relating to joysticks, etc. so try unpluggin anything that isn't system essential in case that's the cause.

Let us know how it goes... :)

Edit: woops...seems as though Castellon beat me to the punch. :p

EDIT #2: I hope you don't mind but I've changed the emoticon attached to the thread. We here, in the support forum, prefer to keep things nice and friendly where possible. Makes us feel more like our volunteer help is appreciated....;) :)

In that thread, he was describing a different, although similar problem.

I reinstalled my sound drivers, and everything seems to be in order. They're the same (current) version though. Just a fresh install of them.

Strange, So everything is working fine now. I guess the drivers could have been corupted, but I find that unlikely. If the problem returns your best bet is to try the lowered sound acceleration and see how that works.
