Hi,

I have just downloaded Vicky from Gamersgate. After hitting install on the downloader, I get 45% through installation when I get a "Component transfer error" which reads:

Component: Core files
File Group: common
File: C:\Program Files\Paradox Entertainment\Victoria\scenarios\1861\France_Rhone_Alpes.csv (there's a curved accent in Rhone)
Error: The system cannot find the file specified.

At this point, the installation stops and successive attempts to install in different directories fail.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I downloaded the 1.4 patch (I was downloading the patch from Gamespot at the same time as the program from Gamersgate) but I'm not sure how that will help. The main program does not finish the installation since it hangs up at 45% with the missing .csv file mentioned above.

I did try running the patch, but it can't find the program Victoria. I have also tried running the main program install after attempting to run the patch, but no luck.

I have been looking through some of the other forums to fix this problem and I see that OHgamer has a hotfix that includes this France_rhone_alpes.csv file.

If this is a related problem, how do I get the program to install before I can apply the hotfix?

Thanks, that fixed the problem (changing to French language). That thread you mentioned should definitely be stickied. I'm sure I'm not the only one who is downloading off Gamersgate and not running with French enabled.

Greatly appreciate your help, jdrou and OHgamer!

OHGamer's hotfix that includes this file is for Revolutions. IIRC, the problem with the original Victoria install requires you to temporarily change your Windows language settings to French or English (UK) before installing.

(The fix should probably be stickied or linked from the self-help thread at least.)

A method around the rhone/rhône error (when installing from CD) is to, when the error appears, do nothing (yet) with the error but to alt-tab out of the install.
Open an explorer window, navigate to the new victoria directory, rename it, for example to "victoriad"
Then you can click away the error. Look for the missing file, and correct the name from xxx_rhone_xxxx to xxx_rhône_xxx
Now you can restart the install and point it to the "victoriad" directory
You will need to follow this procedure at least 3 times as there are 3 files (if i recall correctly) suffering from the rhone/rhône confusion.

The reason for renaming the victoria directory is as follows:
If you immediately press "ignore/cancel/whatever" then the install will fail *AND* the installer will delete the install directory, leaving you unable to fix the problem. If you rename the directory, it will leave the renamed directory.
