Hi, I am currently experiencing frequent crashes when playing Victoria 3. These crashes are occurring randomly (sometimes after 5 minutes, other times after 30 minutes) and are forcing the Desktop to instantly restart.

I do not believe this to be a system error, as my Desktop exceeds the recommended specification for the game, and I am not having any issued on other games (I previously had this issue with CK3, but the recent patch appears to have fixed this).

Any help would be appreciated!

This is happening to me, as well. Seems like a common problem. I've got this game and Dune: Awakening both with horrific performance after patches gaslighting me into thinking I should buy a new PC, but everything else works fine. lol

It’s good to hear I’m not on my own!

Prior to the recent patch (1.9?), I wasn’t able to select a country before the crash. Since the recent patch, I am able to play the game for 10 or so minutes before the desktop crashes. The game isn’t freezing, it’s just instantly forcing a restart without any warning.

I’ve tried pretty much everything that’s been recommended in the forums for similar issues. I did experience this with CK3, but the recent patch has fixed the game, so that makes me think the issue is the game and not my desktop.

Right click on victoria3.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.

Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, cap refresh rate at 60.

If those don't help:

DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

IF dxdiag.txt fails to attach here, rename it to dxdiag.log , or zip it up.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Victoria3/pdx_settings.json .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Victoria3/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Victoria3/crashes/ folder, attach here the latest (only!) exceptions.txt

Hi Andrew

I do not have a 'systems.log' or 'error.log' in the folder section; I only have error 1 to 5 documents and system 1 to 5 documents, which I have attached alongside the dxdiag.

I don't see any cause of this in those files I'm afraid - your CPU and Windows versions are not those that are the main current problems with this game.

You say your PC reboots when this happens, is that right? Because that would normally put LiveKernelEvent entries in dxdiag, but there are none. Look in your Windows Event Viewer at the time of the most recent crash, are there any significant ERROR or WARNING entries there?

Please report the temperatures of your CPU and video (GPU)
1/ before starting the game up and
2/ after say 10 minutes' play.
If your PC's vendor has given you no way of reading temperatures, install

Hi Andrew,

Long story short - I had to get my graphics card replaced, so that must have been the issue. Now the game is not crashing as before, but I am now experiencing a different crash - the game is shutting down and bringing up the crash reporter. Can you help?

Unless it's a game bug, yes I can. After one of these crashes can you reload that save and carry on past the crash point? Or does it then always crash at the same spot?

Are all the settings from post #5 above still in place? If so can I get new copies of the files I requested then please.
