I have been unable to get very far in a game of Stellaris due to the game crashing whenever I reach the mid-to-late game.
Symptoms:
  • Maybe not related, but audio sometimes cuts out. Especially things being said by the voice assistant.
  • When the crash occurs, the screen will first stutter for a split-second. The game is then frozen until I kill it. The AMD graphics driver does not report that it has crashed. No errors in the Windows event logs.
I took a look at the attached DxDiag.txt contents. I know there are quite a few other WER events at the bottom of the file. I have been trying to resolve these Stellaris crashes by adjusting my BIOS settings - specifically my CPU and memory settings. The latest two Stellaris crashed occurred after I reset my BIOS (took out the CMOS battery) and simply set the XMP memory profile. Stress tests are running fine. Stellaris is the only application giving me trouble.

Please help :(

We see two bluescreens in that dxdiag, which are always driver or hardware problems. Were they associated with this game or something else? Next time one happens record the text on the screen please.

Has this always happened ever since you've had this game? Or it was okay up to some point?

The first two lines of that error log point to a problem in user_empire_designs.txt . Are you playing with some customised races, or do you get this issue with the default ones too? You could try moving that file out then starting a new galaxy as any of the default races.

Reactions:
The blue screens were related to testing out different BIOS settings. As I stated in the original post, at this point my PC is running stock BIOS settings with a standard XMP memory profile. The latest two Stellaris crashes occurred with these (so far) stable BIOS settings.

As far as I know this has always happened with my game. Going back maybe a year or so.

Yes, I am playing a custom empire. I suppose I'll try playing a standard race at some point.

I'd appreciate it if you could, as a test, thanks!
