France continues to welcome the freindship of the Spanish King. Perhaps there has been some miscommunications due to the revolving monarchy in Madrid the past few decades.

Russia 1519-1545

For a brief summary, I just have to say I have never had a session with so
many ups and downs in it. Lets hope they are all ups next session.

At the start of the session, Russia was in good shape. We had annexed the
lands of Ryazan, Kazan, and the Golden Horde. Sweden was indifferent to our
expansion and the only worry was from Lithuania. To the southeast, the rich
Khanate of Astrakhan was open to invasion, protacted only by the weak
alliance with Crimea and Nogai.

So, war was declared against Astrakhan. Crimea and Nogai foolishly joined
with them. Mihail Glinski, one of Russia's great generals, quickly overran
all the territories of Astrakhan. The Khan was forced to sign a
humilitating peace. He ceded Volgograd, Orenburg, and gave 100 ducats in
return for peace. Nogai and Crimea quickyl backed down after this.

After this, the Tsar was looking forward to a little peace. Russia had
added many lands in a short amount of time. He hoped for the oppurtunity to
reconcile the people to his rule and benevolently expand the economy.

However, events shaped that would not allow this to happen. At the same
time as our victory over Astrakhan, the Ottoman Sultan Suleyman and his
Grand Vizier, King John Pasha, had declared war on Persia. After a few
months, and a thorough beatdown, Persia surrendered large segments of
Kurdish territory to the Ottomans. Worst from the Tsar point of view, the
Ottomans now had a border with the remnants of Astrakhan.

Now the Tsar had a choice. Risk losing Astrakhan to the OE or become an
international pariah by attacking Astrakhan early. The choice was made and
war was declared. Astrakhan was quickly besieged and annexed by Mikhail
Glinski. Our general then proceeded to wrest 3 provinces from Crimea. Nogai
signed peace.

While the Tsar was relieved that Astrakhan was part of the empire, the
international community did not look favorably upon us. Lithuania, fearful
that we would be agressive toward them, attacked us soon after we had
peaced with Crimea. This was a purely defensive war that the Tsar just
wanted to go away. After some losses, Lith signed a white peace.

Even though we had beaten Lith, the war had cost us time. That was bad because the Suleyman and King John Pasha declared war on us before we had moved back into position. With the help of the recently conqured SUnnis, The turks stromed northward taking every position that had taken us years to get. The last battle of the war was a farce as Mikhail Glinski was ignored by Tsar Vasily and the Russian army suffered defeat in samara. At that point The Tsar asked for peace ceding Astrakhan and Azov to the Ottomans.
(Stupid me merged a 2-2-2 Monarch with a 4-3-4-1 leader. Dumnass doesnt even begin to cover it  )

After the war, 2 more wars occered with Lith winning us 6 provinces. Hiowever, even with this success, the failure against the Turk rankles us to no end. Lith had been crashed but a new danger to the south was what concerened the Tsar now.

AUSTRIA

1545 - 1560

This was a dissapointing period in Austria's history, visions of victory and expansion were quickly replaced with disaster, stupidity and almost constant warfare.

Early on Austria declared war on Poland, this move proved to be a great pain, as the Polish and her allies Lithuania and Prussia threw wave after wave of massive forces led by some King Sigmund upstart which utterly caused chaos and loss amongst the Austrian forces, then Lorraine joined the foray quickly overcoming provinces in the West. Before long the Brandenburg war machine with her massive hordes and her allies jumped on the bandwagon and attacked, not long followed by Genoa.

It was during these wars, just before the official peace with the Ottomans was to end that Hungary, Croatia and Ragusa were released as vassal states in order to act as a buffer zone between ourselves and the infidel. Later Croatia and Ragusa were to be annexed then vassalized by the Turk.

After a long struggle, Brandenburg were subdued and a white peace was signed. The war with Poland see sawed and it was decided that we should cut our losses and sign a peace. However a great blunder occured at the highest level and the incorrect document was signed, the King was most dissapointed with himself and then fell into a stupor.

Holland and Geldre revolted away at some stage. Flanders was vassalised as per in accordance with the Spanish and Zeeland was turned over to Spain.

Genoa was the last nation on Austrias to do list and when we finally got around to sorting them out, France declared war on the small trading nation, later capturing the capital....and now we find ourselves in some kind of standoff with France over the future of Genoa, neither wanting to peace.

And thus this period ends, after apparently stumbling around in the dark, losing a CB on Poland due to stupidity and being overly hasty, losing three refineries due to the riotess hands of foreign looters, having the fuggers refuse the repayments of loans - twice....the Austrian forces are the best in Europe and large in number, while Franz Josef offers his services.....and the King is MAD, seething with rage....what shall be done, what shall we do next....who shall be made to pay....time shall tell all.

Austrian Ambassador to the King of France

Your Excellency,

I enquire as to your actions concerning Genoa and what your intentions are with this small trading nation.

In the defense of my citizens, for every man, women and child I waged war against this nation after they attempted to make injury upon my peoples.

My intentions I have made known, I had wished to vassalize this nation for their lack of respect to Austria. And if they were to behave themselves properly and in a orderly manner, they too, at a later date may be allowed to enter into the free society of Austria.

I ask you to withdraw your garrison from Genoa and make peace with them, so that I may be able to go about my duty.

I also ask that you may annul your alliance with the Turk with haste (for we are not amused), otherwise you are accounted my sworn enemy. There is no deal to be struck with the Turk, they are my hated adversary and I will endeavor forever and a day to see there destruction and that of there supporters.

There has been no tention between our nations until now...and over Genoa? Again I regret that your bid for Flanders was unsuccessful, but that is done with. I encourage you to let no dispute over this small nation bring untold blood shed, on scales never seen before upon Europe.

Sincerely Real Deal, King of Austria.

To all monarch in Europe.

England and Spain come to agreement in regards to our North American colonys and claimes. Spain agreed not to colonize east of river Missisippi and England agreed not to create new settelments West of Missisippi. Spain right now has one colony in Mobile Alabama which will be transferd to England. We will pay Spain for this loss in cash.

To King of France:

We would like to open negotiations to purchase your North American TP.

Portugal 1545-1560

In 1545, Joao decided to declare war upon a african nation called Songhai. Indeed he had heard about valuable gold provinces boosting this nation's income who was threatening to invade all west africa.

After a quick war Buré, BAmbuk, Leone, Mossi were added to the Portuguese Empire.

The years after were dominated by colonisation over Brazil and Africa. Joao also commanded two refinnaries built in Oporto and Parnaiba. This costed hiim an inflation of 15 %.

We had some problems with spain too in south america due to isunderstanding from both parts. I took Amapa just coz it was my tot and though spainhad colonised it for me, but found that he wasnt jokin about those facts...

Brandenburg

Brandenburg was subject to the the unlawful rule of Art Intelligenz in which Art managed to prove his worthiness on the diplomatic front. The annexation of Saxony was grand but he ended up losing hold of the vassalization of Pommrn and Hannover...which sucks, but Art didn't let down when Kaizer Dyno came back. Nothing much was done, oh well I need -2 inflation cause I didnt get it last time :(

France continues to grow and prosper. The Papal lands in Italy have passed into a state of French protection against continued Austrian aggression in the region. France is overwhelmingly alarmed at the speed of Austrian land grabs in the region. Austria has quadrupled her size in a mere 60 years, which should be worrisome to her neighbors in Constantinople, Stockholm, and Berlin. If her expansion is allowed to continue, none of those nations will be able to resist a concerted Austrian push into their lands. Especially considering the immense economic aid given every year by her lapdog Spain, who has threatened was against every single one of her neighbors, despite the complete lack of hostility on the aprt of those neighbors. Shameful bullying by the fat kid on the block. Soon, one of the small kids is going to stand up to the bully and give them a swift kick in the nuts. When this happens, it is our sincerest hope that all the other kids who have been bullied join in to make their displeasure known.

France and Austria jointly announce a resolution of the Genoa situation. Peace is to be immediately concluded by both Austria and France. No lands will change hands and no vassalizaiton will take place.

England 1545-1560.

Stability, religious conversions and government reforms were the most important items on Kings agenda. After reformed religion spread in some English lands government had hard time satisfying all churches and their subjects. Protestant missionaries were sent to North American colonies and some provinces in British Islands. Colonization continued and slower pace do huge amount of cash being spent on stability. Without any explores for most of this period it was difficult to increase our colonial possessions. Kings plan to claim all of the costal North America and prevent other European nations from expanding in fur rich lands almost worked. French did setup 2 or 3 TP but did not established bigger settlements yet. England is short only 3 or 4 colonies to control the North American cost from Mississippi all the way to Arctic ocean.

Recently do to better English-Spanish relations we were able to gain MA in Spanish lands. This helped us to explore African coast in our quest to arrive in India and China. Spain also agreed to divide sphere of influence in Americas. Everything east of Mississippi is English, everything west is Spanish.

Thanks

What action can ENG do this early in the game? This is the time of SPA-OE-FRA. In few years it will be SPA-AUS-FRA-OE. Later ENG,SWE and RUS will join. I also do not see POR doing much war vs players... :D

In 1545 Sweden found itself at war with the island state of Gotland and Lithuania. The war in Lithuania was going well and in February 1545 Lithuania agreed to cede most of its Baltic Coast territory to Sweden. Gotland, seeing the futility of facing Sweden alone agreed to peace in March.

In 1552 Lithuania again attacked Sweden, hoping to regain her baltic territories as well as some pride. The Lithuanians were again a pushover though, and after four years of war (over the course of which Sweden only lost one battle) Lithuania was forced to cede its last costal territory. This acquisition nearly completed Gustav Vasa's ambitions of turning the Baltic into a Swedish lake. Sweden was finally at peace for the first time since the Danish yoke was overthrown in 1492.

PORTUGAL 1560-1581

This has been a great session for our Crown an people.

Portugal went on with his growing and flourishin around the world.
Colonization was promoted during the whole session, with the help of our state explorers.
Though, we established new Tp's , as Douala, Damara, Sulawesi, Antsirana ; new colonies, as Cubango, Lobito, Luanda, Inhambane, Zambezia, Buru, Uruguay ; new cities, as Jakarta, Goa, Bombay, Ciskei, Bourbon, Mauritius, Curitiba, Marajo. We financed this with some mintin and due to an exceptionnal year at the begining of the session.

Regarding diplomatic isuues, our relations are still good with all of our neighbours. The past tension between me, Spain and France has been resolved at least between me and Spain, on the top of that an agreement over the retrocession of Marajo for Tangiers.

We also greatly increased our trade with something like from 50 to 130 a month

Portugal also annexed the cot of Guangzhou, anf fought a war against Mughals and Bengal which ended with a WP. :eek:o

AUSTRIA

1560 - 1580

Enemies to our North,
Enemies to our South,
Enemies to our West,
Enemies to our East,
And one dear friend to our South West,
Woe unto me, my kingdom and my peoples,
A call to arms goes out to all Austrian men to rally against the mighty foes,
For we are small in number and a poorly people,
Fight for your children, your wives, your freedom and most importantly your German sausage and sauerkraut.

Peace was had with Genoa for a paltry sum at the bequest of France, something we had done earlier with Helvetia, in order to not displease the French king. And something we were to do with Lorraine and for the second time Genoa during this period to better relations....all to no avail, as France was to stab our peoples in the back at our weakest point.

After the first Genoan war the country rested and traded, before war was declared on the pretending Emperor of Lithuania in the hope of gaining the Ukraine, as the Ukraine circus that was in exile in Vienna (after much oppression at the hands of the Lithuanians) had gained great favour from the king and his court. Especially after a young and attractive trapese artist had caught the the kings attention and they were married...it was the kings duty to gain his wifes homeland and free her peoples of this cruel oppression.

Nearing the end of this conflict, were Austria gained Volyn, Chernigov and the Ukraine, spies had revealed information regarding the imminent danger of war with Poland, thus our forces moved closer to their border. Despite the reassurances from Brandenburg "we are your friend" and "Poland made me do it", Poland and her allies Brandenburg, Sweden, Russia and Hannover declared war.

The battles were fierce which raged to and fro. Austrian forces focused on defending Northern Austria, while attacking Poland. In no time Russia was seiging Chernigov and Ukraine, Poland later gained Danzig, while Sweden and Brandenburg were coordinating large scale operations primarily around the Erz/Sudetan area. Though our forces were winning most of the battles, we were taking large losses and money was in short supply. Russia was expelled from the newly gained Austrian territory, while Northern Austria was kept relatively secure, Poland was beginning to fail, but so was Austria, the massive drain on finances were taking their toll, the financial aid received from Spain - though much appreciated, was not enough to gain an upper hand against the economies and armies of five nations.

I felt the tide beginning to turn in the enemies favour and when Spain was notified of this, they immediately made the glorious decision to step in and wage war. Sweden was quickly subdued and knocked out of the war, thanks to Spain.

Around this time large French and Turkish armies were sited massing on their respective borders, this was followed by war. Austria at its most depressed state was viciously ravaged by the blood lust wolfs from the South and West. Spain joined the war, though perhaps I shouldnt have brought them into it, for it was already a foregone conclusion in Austria - having no money and only about 70,000 troops, resistence would have been futile, so Austrian troops continued to engage the Polish alliance.

Peace was signed with the Turkish/Frence axis of evil with Austria ceding its two richest provinces Milan and Emila to France, also Pest, Krain and Odenburg to the infidel, it was a sad day... :( . Now no doubt they are poised to finish what they started.

The war on the Polish alliance continued, Poland went bankrupt, Masovia was captured, then peace was offered only for Poznan (perhaps alittle hastily). This was quickly followed by a white peace with Brandenburg and the remainder of the alliance.

The last few years of this period was spent licking our wounds, installing Mayors in all our cities and researching some military technology, in the hope that we may have an edge on the vultures that surround us.

Austria earnestly looks to Spain for guidance and funds :D

EDIT: In regards to Milan and Emila being Austria's former two richest provinces.

Spain

1560-1580

This was a period of great expansion and colonization for the Kingdom of Spain. Many new cities, colonies, and trade posts were established in the New World. The influx of exotic plants, animals, and luxuries has made the merchants of Spain very wealthy which has been poured back into the Kingdom to upgrade infrastructure and military fortifications.

Sadly, this period was marked by Spain's first venture into the bloody and twisted wars engulfing the rest of Europe. Our faithful and valued ally Austria was set-upon by an alliance of Northern States that included Sweden, Brandeburg, Poland, and Russia. Austria choose to go it alone against this alliance but Spain insisted that Austria accept some monetary aid.

Spain watched events unfold with keen interest. For a time Austria held it's own but it was quickly becoming apparent that war exhaustion and lack of money would soon turn the tide. Spain began negotiations with Sweden to remove them from the conflict believing that without Sweden the alliance would be unable to continue operations for very long. Despite repeated overtures, threats, and promises of destruction, Sweden choose to ignore Spain's diplomats.

An expeditionary force was quickly assembled and an army of 40K under Farnese was transported by the Spanish Armada lead by Adimiral Bazan to the north. Sweden was given one last chance to accept peace and refused. Left with no other avenue Spain declared war upon Sweden.

Farnese landed in Holstein and quickly worked his way North taking province after province with little or no resistance. Bazan despite being outnumbered was able to emerge the winner in a hard fought naval action which was quickly followed up by a couple more as he drove the vanquished Swedish Navy before him. Farnese taking advantage of Bazan's domination of the seas was able to ignore the few Swedish transports left rotting in the straits, and moved on the Capital. After a short seige the Capital fell and Farnese moved on to the mainland.

Sweden's army was in a terrible position, it could not retake their Capital because of the Spanish Navy guarding the approaches, and it could not defend the mainland because of the sheer time to walk around to reach it. Sweden quickly agreed to a peace at this time.

France and the Turks choose to invade Austria in protest of Spain's Swedish Adventure. Apparently this alliance was afraid to confront Spain over her actions, and choose instead to punish third parties which is a very odd thing to do.

Two small armies from Spain were sent into France to serve as a diversion. Alba quickly took over the province of Gascogne, as the French defenders fled their positions with little or no resistance. The other army began a seige of Langdeouc. A huge French army approached Langdeouc, so Alba retreated to gather more forces while the other army continued the seige. Timing would be critical but in France's favor as the small army outnumbered 3 to 1 was annilhated. Unfortunately, through a series of mishaps, Spain's diplomats agreed to an alliance peace while negotiating with the Turks. This put in end to Spain's involvement in the war.

In a softening of a diplomatic freeze between Spain and Portugal, Spain traded a province in South America for Tangiers.

England 1550-1580

This was the time of growing stability and slow territorial expansion in North America. First King spend huge amounts of cash on stability to push it into acceptable levels. That created bigger income which allowed military expansion. Iroqes and then Erie where annexed into our empire and over next 2 decades most of them converted to true religion. New colony were setup in NA and western Africa. Allowing our explores to sail into Indian Ocean. North American coast is under our control with the exception of few French TP.

At the end of this time period we received a first explore which we used to discover Huron's. They will also join our nation. Right now England is at war with Zimbabwe and we are wining. We plan to gain few costal provs that will allow our Navy to reach Indochina without much problem. Conversions were mostly successful but there are few lands that are still catholic on the British Islands. We plan to guide them to true faith as soon as possible. Good education in Naval academy created 3 exceptional Admirals of which one is named Drake. His abilities to explore or destroy enemy fleets are quite extraordinary.

Brandenburg 1550 - 1580

We have seen it all now, a clash into the south, a victory w/o spoils, and a lamp to shine the path into the new world.

It was a bitter-sweet fortunate events that culminated into what was the most surprising years of the Brandenburg alliance. Fighting off and holding at stalemate, the beast of the Vienna, the overgrown lion that attacked and spearheaded into Lithuania was attacked by all nations surrounding it. To try and stunt it's growth, Brandenburg fought along side the Swedish and was victorious in major battles, but lost skirmishes throughout the Bohemian landscape.

Capturing towns, time and again, the Austrians would go and recapture them.
It was a back and forth struggle that gave no ground to the Brandenburg alliance.

The war ended, and France and the Turks were made richer, Brandenburg was let go and along with Sweden proceeded to award themselves with lands around their general areas. Brandenburg took Holland and it's main center of trade, including maps to the new world. Sweden jogged off with regions in the lowland to ensure that French hand's never got into Reformed Netherlands.

The future looks interesting as the golden alliance begins to talk of seperation, and the beast calls unto the Stallion in Berlin for a handshake that could change the world.

Russia 1560-1580

The period started with Russia at war with the minor state of Sibir. Not much to talk about here. The weather killed more troops than Sibir soldiers. Sibir was annexed in 1560.

After the annexation of Sibir, a curious thing happened. Russia, after expecting more nations to the east, discovered a country that was viod of any organized people. So, brave men and soldiers were sent to the east to discover just what lies in that direction. This could be the future of Russia.

After our brave conquistadors were sent off, Russia concentrated on domestic improvements and colonies. Things were going very well until Austria declared war on Lithuania.

In 1563, Austria declared war on Lith. This annoyed the Tsar as we considered Lith land as our possessions. So, in 1566, Russia declared war against Lithuania. Lithuania was not the power she once was. Russia quickly secured peace and grabbed Mozyr, Belgorod, Polatsk, and SMolensk from Lith in 1570.

While fighting Lithuania, my allies, Brandenburg, Sweden, and Poland attacked Austria on the premise of stopping Austria's rapid growth into our spheres of influence. Russia joined this war in 1569 but not whole heartedly. Russia had other concerns at the time and did not want her whole army to be swallowed by a war with Austria. So, the Tsar only commited 40k troops at most. Chernigov and Ukraine were both taken at one time but Austria managed to take them back eventually. So, when btandenburg signed a peace in 1574, Russia signed as well.

After the war, it was back to domestic issues. We are hoping to match the western powers in wealth and tech for the future.

Sweden 1560-1580
shield_SWE.gif

The years from 1560-1569 were uneventful. Infrastructure was improved, taxes were levied, and stability remained at an all time low. However, the army was strong, and our allies in Brandenburg wanted to help the Poles regain some of their lost territory. Russia, angry at Austrian warmongering in the Ukraine also agreed to support the war (although the Russian bear committed very few troops). After a series of actions in northern bohemia the Great Northern Alliance began to gain the upper hand. However, Spain could not stand to see his ally lose and repeatedly threatened to invade. Finally in 1572 they backed up their threats and declared war on Sweden. But we were not afraid, for Sweden boasted the strongest navy in the world. Despite numerical superiority, the Swedish admiralty was not up to par with the great Alvaro de Bazán, who managed to defeat the Swedish war fleet in two actions. At this time the swedish army was still committed in Northern Bohemia, and Farnesse was able to capture most of Swedish Denmark with little resistance. After only six months of war Sweden was forced to abandon its allies and agree to peace with the papist Habsburgs. Fortunately, France and the Turk took up the cause and Austria was unable to make any gains against Brandenburg. Poland was forced to cede Poznan, essentially ending its plausibility as an independent state. In 1574 Governors were appointed throughout Sweden at an estimated cost of over 3000 Ducats, an unfortunate but necessary expense. In 1576 Sweden and Brandenburg partitioned Pommern, Sweden getting the western portion, with the east going to the Berliner. In 1577 the Dutch were invaded and annexed, despite French attempts at interference.
