Oh, I didn't notice the Vicky2 part was ongoing. :)

Always nice, thanks for the delay (as I know, it was just made for me to catch up :p ).

I think this is the first time I actually see the Dominican Republic exist, finally.

Also why are there random parts of Miami in the middle of the nation?

Let's build a nation from sea to shining sea. And then go north till the ice stops us.
Then perhaps justify our 'America' map name by taking the rest of it.
Then pollute the world till the ice is pushed back. Then we'll go after...I don't know...Australia?

Says the largest blob in the western hemisphere

Haha! Very hypocritical of me to say, I know

At the moment most large powers seem to be beaten back or divided in smaller constituent parts, with the exception of the United States who are steadily growing.

With the exception of Brazil. Brazil has stayed out of most affairs, but it has grown somewhat. It's a secondary power with some level of industry and the most powerful military in South America. In most of my Vic 2 games, I see Brazil stay a secondary power through nearly the entire play through. Maybe we can change that :)

So many revolutions in the New World... if this keeps up, I won't be surprised if nations from the Old World come and try to conquer yet again. Of course, a certain democracy could always try and become the United States of North and South America... :p

Well done against Mexico. Knock out your rivals and dominate the region!

I don't know about uniting the New World! However, the Monroe document may come, just a little late is all.

It's all for you (Damien)!

Also why are there random parts of Miami in the middle of the nation?

They were a protectorate in the last part I believe. Now they are a two province primitive nation that is just sort of there. They are in my sphere but do nothing at all.

Chapter 3 - 1843 to 1851: Manifest Destiny

With the first Mexican-American war over, the government moves its focus to the economy, which struggled somewhat during the war. Congress approves of the Rail Connection Plan, which orders the construction of thousands of miles of railroad to connect the east coast to Texas and the western territories. Meanwhile, investment in new factories, mostly along the east coast, picks up.

But none of the economic feats can hide the fact that the US is becoming increasingly split. Many southern states talk of succession, so much so that the idea of a second revolution takes hold in many people's minds. Their fear of the federal government's power and the north's manpower and production drives the two sides further and further apart.

To the east, settlers push into the provinces of Nevada and Utah, and the Democratic government, foreseeing a possible crisis, issues the Clay and Douglas Draft. Under this, the people of the territory introduced to the union decide whether or not slavery is allowed.

To the south, the USCA still wages war for independence against Colombia, but it looks as though the end is near. Not wanting to lose their Central American ally, the USA joins the war on the USCA's side.

24 thousand US troops of the 1st Army arrive in Costa Rico on New Years day of 1844. They immediately engage Colombia's 3rd Army of only 4 thousand.

the army is split in two, with the young General Charles Sancronis heading north to liberate the Colombian provinces there, and Michael Dom-Martin moving south to defeat the rest of the Colombian army. Just as the US army is about to engage the last of the Colombian army in Panama city, Colombia sues for peace. The USCA is an independent nation.

The next presidential election begins just as the troops return home. A little while later and the Democratic party is voted back into power.

Occidentalia approaches the US in 1845 offering an alliance. Seeing this as a potential path towards offering them statehood in the Union, the offer is accepted.

However, shortly thereafter the idea of Manifest Destiny begins to grow in the American Psyche. Freedom, politicians begin to say, should ring out from the east coast to the west. Why should the US's expansion be halted by so weak a nation as Occidentalia? The US should encompass a land from sea to shining sea.

In 1847, the revolutions draw to a close. Cuba and the Dominican Republic successfully negotiate a peace treaty that ends in independence. Venezuela, however, is annexed back into Colombia. Where will the rest of the 19th century bring the torch of revolution?

In the United States, the Clay and Douglas Draft appears to have worked. Tensions on both sides decrease, and before too long the Slave Debate moves into the foreground.

The truce with Mexico ends in September, and the government, feeling confident, declares war for New Mexico. Manifest Destiny has taken hold!

Radio Caldwell leads 1st Army into New Mexico, as Amos Sedgwick leads 2nd army into Las Cruces. The Mexican Army of 33 thousand, led by Ampudia, moves into Colorado where it engages the Army of the Territories led by the prestigious Nathaniel Farnsworth. It is a close victory for Farnsworth, saved only by the arrival of Caldwell and the 1st Army. Caldwell follows and captures the remainders of Mexico's army in Santa Fe.

Meanwhile, Mexico's 2nd Army begins pushing into Texas. 4th Army, led by Eugene Wires, is there to stop them. With the help of Caldwell yet again, it is a victory.

To the south, the USCA is defending valiantly against a Mexican intrusion. The Army of the Territories is sent to the aid, and 18 thousand troops join the smaller USCA army.

The Mexicans are easily pushed back, and USCA is saved from enemy occupation.

Arizona and California are added to the war goals. Before too long, all of the war goals are achieved. Yet Mexico still resists surrender. At the same time, the Election begins.

Mexico concedes in March of 1849, adding 3 new territories to the Union. All but New Mexico are made non-slave states. The sliver of California that is gained gives the US its first access to the Pacific Ocean.

With the emergence of the Free-Soil Party, the 1849 election was much closer than most of the previous ones. The Democratic Party was voted back into power, but by a narrower margin.

From their victory, they introduce the Fugitive Slave Act, which would enforce the return of escaped slaves to their owners, regardless of where in the Union the slave is captured. It is yet another blow to the Abolitionists.

New Mexico offers fresh challenge to the Union, and the Apache declare a campaign against the Unite States, refusing to acknowledge their new overlord. The US responds in kind and over 8 thousand native Americans are killed in the ensuing violence.

An opportunity arises in 1851. There is a friendly faction within Occidentalia, the Freiheitspartei, that desires statehood within the Union. The current ruling party of Occidentalia does not, but we could secretly support the friendly faction, helping them eventually take power. This could end in either a peaceful transition of power or a civil war. Should we risk it? Either way, supporting the faction would most likely lead to incorporating much if not all of Occidentalia into the United States.

VOTING: This vote will end 11PM EST, January 5th.

(A) Yes:
Supporting the faction would increase their popularity and their supplies. There are several different outcomes for this. 1) The faction could peacefully take power and apply for statehood, allowing us to annex or partition their lands, or 2) the operation could be botched, possibly ending in civil war in Occidentalia.

(B) No: It is too risky. The United States does not meddle in our nations' governments.

Please include either A or B in your comment!

Yes of course, Occidentalia is naturally an American state

Vote on Occidentalia's Statehood Desire

(A) Yes

Yes (A), let us fulfill our manifest destiny not only through the sword, but through word as well.

(A) Yes: Of course we need to support them. The territory will join the USA one way or another, peacefully would be ideal.

(A) Yes: Naturally. We are going to annex that land one way or another - either they will join peacefully or the civil war will weaken them so as to make the resulting war a cakewalk for our boys. This is a win/win here.

Yes, do it! A!

A Is the natural answer but it has more benefits than just getting territory. It also can get the de nord's to consider such a union themselves and bag us most of the west coast of America.

Telling that A is the choice of everyone above. Mind you, the fact that the US is going to take this turf one way or the other means that A has to be taken to avoid a massive war for them.

Still...it doesn't feel like a particularly good thing to do. Especially as we're screwing around with another democracy.

Annnnnndd.... The vote is done! All I gotta do is tally it up!

Seems a little close. Maybe we should get a third party to look into this. Maybe a recount, even.
