From Steam, game doesn't launch

Yesterday game worked fine. This morning I click on the icon, Steam pop-up appears "game is launching", then nothing happens and the launcher window of the game doesn't appear. I've uninstalled and installed again, no improvements. What shall I do?

You can bypass the launcher by following these instructions:

Download the attached cities.bat.zip file
Extract from it cities.bat
Place the .bat file in your game's Steam folder (In the same place as your cities.exe)
Right click the game in your Steam library
Go to properties
Select Launch Options
Copy and Paste cities.bat %command% into the input box
X out of that screen
Run the game

Thanks a lot, I tried and it worked. But I wonder: what could have triggered this in the first place? I've also tried to reinstalla the launcher, but no improvements...

It is a bug in the launcher. Why it happens with a number of people but not everyone is unknown. The launcher devs have been unable to duplicate it so it remains unfixed, I'm afraid.
