Units that are placed on a specific hex due to a combat ability (such as the air leap) can be exploited when fighting the AI, making them retreat.

Example: When some of those insectoids roam the map and catch one of your flying scouts, you can position the flyer in such a way that the leap of the attacker will result in landing on the "retreat hex" and the unit will actually retreat.
Add in some laser strike or other DD tacticals and you will win the fight.

I haven't tested it yet, but I would assume the same happens for other ability that move a unit to another hex.
