Hello, the current issue I am having recently is that the game doesn't crash, it freezes my whole computer. I am able to move the cursor, but I hear sounds playing in intervals of a second or less, like stuttering. My PC does not crash, as I can still see the screen, and everything is "operating" but I cannot escape the frozen screen without a hard restart of my PC because my keyboard is not responding to CTRL+ALT+Delete, i have checked my event viewer and there isn't a single error or warning, also i don't have any problem with any other game, it only happens with CK3

Has this always happened since you've had the game? or it was okay up to some point?

Right click on ck3.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.
Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, cap refresh rate at 60.

If those don't help:
DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.
IF dxdiag.txt fails to attach here, rename it to dxdiag.log , or zip it up.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3/pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log , exceptions.txt

Alright so i did some testing now with the changes you told me, i created a new game in observer mode and keep it running x5 speed for around 20 minutes on the whole map view, after this 20 minutes i did a new test, i zoom into the map and instantly freeze, after 15-20 seconds that i ALT + TAB the pc went out of the freeze (the game was still freezed) and when ALT + TAB once again to the game i got a complete freeze except for the mouse as mentioned earlier, so the problem persist, maybe this information helps, also i attach here now the dxdiag, dpdx_settings, system.log and error.log. There isn't any file called exceptions.txt in my folders.

I see you are on Windows 11 24H2, which I'm pretty sure is the cause of your problem!

it is a severely broken Windows update that has caused problems across the whole gaming - indeed computer - industry.

Certainly make sure you have the latest MS updates for it installed, but if that doesn't help all you can do is revert to 23H2 if you still can.

Sorry about that!

I believe this is what has just begun happening to me earlier this week. I have played for years with no issues, just these last 2 days the game has begun freezing my computer after playing for a bit. One thing I noticed is that it was almost always at the start of or during an activity pop up event. Is there a way to revert my windows update? It auto updated a few days ago.

I had already re installed the game, verified files, checked all my drivers. Then I saw some recent posts about windows. I can not even provide crash logs because it never has a chance to make one, have to reset the PC every time.

Edit: I was able to rollback the windows update before the cut off and it seems to have worked, 2 hours of playing with multiple activities and no freeze yet.

I've been having the exact same issues. 13900k with a 4090 and 32gb of ram. No mods.
That's one of the affected Intel CPUs. Have you updated the bios within the last month or so?

If so please attach those files I ask for in post #2, thanks.

Is there any update to this? I still have not updated windows.

There have been a number of measures some users found helped the 24H2 issue with this game, but none seem 100%.

Some users found relief in various ways:

A user has come up with another possible workaround
https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/threads/24h2-w11-update-issue-found-no-more-crashes.1728373/
Some affected users have definitely seen that help them with this issue.

And there has been at least one report that the latest Nvidia driver, from a couple of days ago, helped - although I'm really not sure how!

Question I have a 11700k CPU Intel and I also have the same issue here. with recent Win 11 24h2 No fixes work from the forums
That 11th gen CPU is not affected by the Intel hardware faults, only gen 13 and 14 seem to be.

But if you have Windows 11 24H2, that is a real problem. The last link I posted above has been helpful for most users.

If that doesn't help, what exact game issue are you having please? It may be unrelated.

So I did the last "link" the one where you modify the registry and it improved a little but still the issue continued to appear.

What happens with me is that randomly the mouse starts to move VERY slow, the audio just stops, but then after a couple minutes the whole thing FREEZES and the ALT+TAB or CTRL+Alt+Delete dont work, so I have to do hard Restart

Should I open my own Thread?

No, if the whole PC freezes that is the 24H2 problem alright.

If you have an Nvidia GPU, apply the latest (mid-Feb) updated driver to it.

Did you check out the other links above?

My pc recently update to 24h2, never had an issue before. An now i have the total pc freeze issue when the game. Not happening every time.

Also i've notice than few days ago before i have the freeze issue, windows defender ask me to turn on Kernel-mode Hardware-enforced Stack Protection option while it should be off by default.

Iv'e turned it on and had the freeze issue since then.

Not sur if it's the cause of the issue, i've juts disable Kernel-mode Hardware-enforced Stack Protection, will see if the issue come back or not

Did you try everything in my post #9 above?

Thanks for your reply.

From your post the first link asks me to reduce the amount of CPUs to be used by the application/game. I dont think this should be a solution AT ALL. and I won't do it, playing the game SO slow or with affected performance is not a solution that should be suggested IMO.

2nd Post, Sadly I cant rollback to 23H2 anymore, I must do it before 10 days have passed and I am late, Second it suggest updating chipset and firmware, I did that I realized I havent updated it in a while and in fact it did help a little, I mean before I played 10 minutes and it would freeze now it is random between 10 minutes to a couple hours.

3rd post I have the LATEST nvidia and windows Update version and still I receive these freezes.

I havent tested the game the past 2 days because I got tired of hard restarting my computer.

EDIT: I tried playing again today and it froze again 5 minutes after starting, I had the task manager up and I see no increase on memory nor CPU, and I see nothing in the event viewer that could be of help. I wonder if Paradox can release a DEBUG/Log Version so that we can help track this issue. I dont mind using it to help track the issue.

You don't mention the last one, which has indeed helped many users with this problem:

I think asking people touching to windows registry is not a solution at all. Majority of people are not supposed to touch to registry. I've search on internet about this fix with HmbAllocationPolicy key, and it's an old fix for western digital SSD BDOS, nothing to do with pc freeze

For the moment after desactivate Kernel-mode Hardware-enforced Stack Protection i've launched the game 30 times didn't have a single pc freeze. Will update if it comes back

I agree a workaround is not a solution - no one said it was. But it has unarguably helped people so I'll continue to suggest it.

I did try it and it was just a temporary reprieve to the issue, things improve just a little but after a LONG play session it comes back. Still having a registry change that I dont know 100% what it does I dont like it. I mean I a software developer but havent dug into what this does.
