I load into the main menu, and whenever I click anything on the screen where EU4 is, the game just closes.

This could be caused by a broken mod or broken installation. Try to disable all mods(if you think that you have no mods, look in the playset section of the launcher to make sure, because they might have been installed and activated without your knowledge) and if that doesn't help, you can try to verify the integrity of game files and if that doesn't help, you can try a clean reinstall as described in my guide on reddit about common startup problems with version 1.29. Does this help?

Right click on eu4.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.
Edit settings.txt to say:
Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode.

DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

I've been able to play on this computer yes, last time I played was in November with no issues. Changing the settings did not resolve the issue.
There was no such file as exceptions.log in that folder, but here are all the other files:
We see no crash in the game in that dxdiag, which tends to point to a cause outside the game. But I don't see a reason for that either!
What happens if you run eu4.exe directly from File Explorer? That bypasses Steam and our launcher.
What antivirus do you use? Make sure eu4.exe is allowed through all its exceptions lists.
If none of that helps, make a new Windows user on this computer and log into it with that - is it any better there?

I got the game working! I looked at the forum and saw the exact same issue which was caused by RTSS and unloading it fixed the issue.
