I thought I'd try to uninstall the game and reinstall it, and discovered that I had two(2) EU installed, when using 'Add/Remove Program'.
After removing both of them, I reinstalled the game and the patch, and there's still two installations in 'Add/Remove'.
Should it be this way?
And, yes, the game still crashes. :(

I also have this problem with crashes, in my case it seems to be at two different occasions. I playing the game and doing a mouse click. I have an impression that it happened some time after that I had one of the computer-controlled countries annexed (“annektera <S>”). The other occasion is when I open a saved scenario then EU immediate crash, but at the next tries it works perfect. I guess it will take some time until this discrepancy has been rectified. Seems to be a hard one to find.

This unknown feature did not bother me that much, I have the game saved quite often and its not happened that often, about every ten hours of gaming.

I playing on a Compaq Armada 1750, PII, 466MHz, 128MB W95 EU ver 1.05

Same thing here, it drops out to windows desktop at completely random times (or so it seems) without leaving any error messages or anything. Sometimes I can play for maybe 6-7 hours straight while other times I can't play for more than an hour or so.

Specs:

P2-450
256 mb ram
Geforce 1 with nvidia reference drivers
Turtle Beach Montego I

Win98SE + Directx7.0a

It also happens on my other machine:

P2-300
348 mb ram
TNT1 with nvidia reference drivers
Yamaha OPL3-compatible soundcard

Win2000 Pro + Service Pack 1 + Default Win2K directX (7.0a?)

I'm using the swedish 1.05b patch and playing with music off.

It happens randomly for me!!!
Not often though if you play 14 hours in row and the games quit and goes to the windows...
1 time or 2
Just downloaded the patch and now il se if it works better :)

I play the Swedish version 1.05b and it crashes for me too. After Karl IX becomes king you get some special bonuses like extra soldiers and investments in infrastructure & trade. The times I've pressed the 'Historia'-button one of three things have happened:
(i) I get a history text about one of the religious events (don't remember which)
(ii) The history box only contains the word 'null'...
(iii) The game crashes to Windows.

The last one is of course the most irritating, so now I never press any 'Historia'-buttons at all, just to be safe...

This problem has happened to me 100s of times and it does not seems like its related to something special. This is very annoying especially if you don't have autosave on. I demand that this should be fixed in the next patch since i payed like 50$ for it :)
I have a top notch computer with a standard configuration for everything so i don't think the problem lies there. And it's clear many more are sufferíng from this. But im confident that paradox listen to its gamers.

REAL POWER ARE NEVER GIVEN IT'S TAKEN

An evening of playing Europa Universaliis.
-
* Start playing the scenario “Nordiska kriget”. After 3 year it crashed!
* Restart the game put the AutoSave function on!
*Play the game a couple of years I think it was four this time, until the clock stop running, the game wasn’t paused. Great a new bug! Decide to open the auto saved file, get surprised when the opened file not have the view where you command your troops etc i.e. the main menu wasn’t there, moved between the different views diplomatic, trading, colonisation and the menu with the saving option couldn’t get to the main view.
*Had to restart the whole game again, the clock wasn’t running this time either. Decided to change the time scale of the game so I opened up the menu with the settings, changed the setting went back to the menu with the save, open, etc options click the button to leave the menu. WOW it was not disappearing its was still there. But if I click into it its was not there, the underlying view reacted on my clicking so the menu was only there to hide the under laying view. I had to <ctrl><alt><delete> to leave the game.
*I give up for this evening maybe I will make a try tonight.

As a general tip use the Ctrl + and Ctrl - to controle the game speed as well as the Pause button to pause/unpause the game that way you can try different ways of manipulating the time. It might help you with that big (not likely though) but at least it is VERY practical hotkeys :)

Hello?

I don't want to look like an unpatient person, but I bought the game some days ago and I am still not able to play it. I was hoping, that I would get an answer to my problems through this forum.
Is there any one out there to help me? May be one of these emporers of the holy what ever?

During heavy fighting (a lot of battles going on) the game drops to desktop for me too. Don't seem like hardware related since I don't have very much in common with the other system's listed.
1.05B Sv

Relevant Hardware/Software
W98SE & DX8
Cel 450
Intel BX board (Abit BH6)
96 MB RAM
Savage 2k (Diamond Viper II)
Vortex 2 (Diamond MX 400)
All latest drivers & bioses
Plenty HD swapspace

I must say however, of the numerous gamecrashes I've experienced the game has never crashed the OS.
This, in a way, is IMPRESSIVE.

BTW the game also Crashes 100% of the time due to bug #24 in Hartmans list found on the FAQ section on this forum, but I hope your ontop of that one already ...

I think it's when u have annexed another nation there is some memory bug who makes it crash.

So now when I have annexed a nation, I save, and then I load that saved game and continue playing.

I have only tried this twise but it seems to work since it haven't crashed... yet.

Have you got more than one CD reader/burner on your system. If so make sure that your EU CD is in the first of them (alphabetically).

I had it in the correct reader(dvd) but the game still refused to start. Now I have installed the patch, and got the game running! But I´m still thrown out to windows randomly from the game... Happens after a couple of hours of gameplay, quite annoying... Accuring most frequently when I trying to save a game. Other than that, a great game!!!

When I start the game from the programs-menu or by dubble clicking on the CD-rom drive in Explorer, the game crashes (black screen). But when I start the game by autoplay (insert the disc), it works just fine.

Perhaps some useful tips for your future patch?

(I have W2K installed)
