This was my first time running the game. It loads up until "Loading Events" and then it's not responding. I tried reinstalling the game, making an exception in my antivirus and pretty much everything listed in the other threads and it's still not working

ditto
Win7 applications status of "not responding" when game hangs at "Loading Events"

Please create your own thread, as is custom in this subforum.

I just had this happen as well, and, honestly, what worked was go and make a sandwich while it finish loading. Don't remember it hanging for so long at any point during the loading before (though I think I stopped playing last before the last patch, so it might be that) but eventually, after a minute or two of being non-responsive, It got past that point and finished loading the game. Rebooted just to double-check that it wasn't just luck and I think it even did it a bit faster that time as well.

Did reinstalled, cleared mods, etc before I tried the "just be patient" route, but if that hadn't "fixed" it for you, it probably had nothing to do with it working for me either.

Please go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Crusader Kings II\ _CommonRedist\DirectX\Jun2010\ and run dxsetup.exe
Please go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Crusader Kings II\ _CommonRedist\vcredist\2010\ and run vcredist_x86.exe and vcredist_x64.exe

Also if you have installed a gaming VPN app called Evolve, or the MSI Gaming App, disable it as it clashes with this game.

IF that doesn't help, DXDIAG is a program you run from a command prompt or the Windows start menu 'run' dialog box (or 'search programs' in Windows 7 or later). After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach your Documents/Paradox/CK2/settings.txt.
From your Documents/Paradox/CK2/logs/ folder, attach system.log .

thanks, sounds like a plan. will have to try that. this probably needs to be echoed over on the Steam message board.

If you all you get get is a snowish screen and/or maybe a Windows message of Ck2 not responding or such, then you are likely in some other mode than fullscreen for the game
and you can just ignore all that indeed. Happens when you touch/move the mouse slightly during load.
As long as you hear music, then it should load in the backgorund and the main menu will show up soon ( a minute or so max).
Apart from the window mode it's simply a bit picky the first start time. CK2 is a woman. ;)

Jut saying to confirm the earlier post.
