I installed the game without any problems but when I´m starting the game it always crashes when entering the first menu after the graphics and music initiliazation.
Computer specs are : 800 Mhz, 8.4 GB HD, 256 MB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce256 video card, SiS7018 Wave sound card and a two 48 speed cd roms. I run on Windows ME.

I've done my best to update video and sound drivers.

Suggestions :
1) Rename the AVI folder to AVI_back
2) Set the color depth to 16BIT
3) Turn off everything in the background like E-mail/ICQ/Messenger, Virus protection and everything in the system tray beside the clock.

I've tried all these steps and still same result. Game crashes when the first menu appears.

Please run a DirectX Diagnostic:
Start menu –Run - then type Dxdiag, then select each tab across the top of the window, and run the tests on each tab. Then select “Save All Information” button in the lower right of the window. This will bring up a dialog box to allow you to select a name for the file where the information will be saved. You can save it right on the desktop as this will make it easy to find. Then copy the contents of that file from the start to the heading that says “DirectX components” then paste what you have copied into a post in this thread.

Run EU2 Config program and set res to 800x600, and turn music off, set desktop to 800x600 16BIT and try the game.

I d/l the 1.08 version patch and after that it won't even reach the first menu before crashing.
Tried all the stuff you suggested above and with the above result.
Crashes at Initializing globals.
Thanks for trying to help by the way.
This is pretty frustrating :(

Did you rename the AVI folder again after installing the patch?

That's the right folder (it can be renamed to anything other than AVI), but you also need to reboot after doing that before running EU2 again.

Yrrol said:
I've renamed the file folder called AVI to AVI_back.
Is that the correct file or there should be a application-file or exe-file called AVI as well?
Yes that is what I wanted you to do.

I would try uninstalling the game and do a fresh install.
See if it works without the patch.

I've tried uninstalling and re-installing back, after that renaming AVI file to AVI_back, setting to 16bit, resolution to what you recommended and started with sound off and no other programs active and the result is the same. Game crashes when the first menu comes up.
Never seen anything like this....

Can you try your EU2 CD on another machine? Do you know someone else with the game, who's CD you can try on your machine?

Did you just buy the game?
Did it come bundled with any other games like the conquest pack or CotN?
Have you ever had the game working?

I will try on another machine. Since it is a new CD that I just got it has not been tried by me on any other PC so I don't know if it works on another machine yet.
I got it from my brother in Sweden and the game is on original CD and not part of conquest pack or CotN to my knowledge.

Hmm, That is interesting, Who is the Publisher of the version you are attempting to use? Their logo will be on the CD.

I am a little confussed since IIRC Vision Park is the publisher for Sweden.

Waht language is the game in?
