Hi! The game appears to be crashing due to lack of memory.

Sadly, we are unsure what could cause this issue and it seems to be specific to your Linux configuration. I'll move the thread to our Technical Support forum in case of further inquiries.

Yes, we see this in that error log
[16:26:52][pdx_assert.cpp:633]: Assertion failed: Out of (fixed) memory
16gb ought to be enough of course, but unload every other app you can before starting the game, and make sure your paging/swap file is big enough - at least 32gb I'd say.

Also check your AMD video driver and Mesa versions are up to date.

Good luck!

I'm also getting `Assertion failed: Out of (fixed) memory` - I have 64gb of memory with 32 free at startup time.
I've moved to using the proton version. I would suggest doing the same if you are on Linux. It is kind of annoying because I believe the native game is Wayland while using Proton you will have to use XWayland.

It was Proton or literally not playing a game I payed for. I am pretty sure there is some bug in the Linux version because no other game/software has this issue with my Linux build, but oh well Paradox can't support every distro/setup.

I saw an update yesterday and had some hopes, and the shaders compiling this time passed beyond 300 and crashed somewhere after 2k, but still crashed.
No line telling anything about memory in the logs, btw.
errors.log and the crash feedback file are created, but empty. There is some text in the debug.log but nothing making the error obvious to me.

1.6 was working very stable, not a single crash.

This seems to be your first post on this topic; it would have been best to make your own new thread, with full problem history and system details!

Anyway: are you also on Linux ?

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Victoria3/pdx_settings.json .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Victoria3/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Victoria3/crashes/ folder, attach here the latest (only!) exceptions.txt

Also in Steam please click on Steam-Help-System Info, and paste everything there into a text file and attach that here.

Hello! We've received some updates on a problem with swapchain that could result in "out of memory" crashes on some Linux configurations.
Our team will attempt to push the fix into one of the upcoming hotfixes (or a later patch in worst case scenario).
Best regards!

Yes, I was watching this thread because it described the problem I had, except the logs themselves, and now that it seemed to have improved for some, I was adding that it didn’t for all.

I now cleared the …/Paradox Interactive/Victoria3/ folder (another time) before trying launching the game, and am adding the fresh logs after only one launch attempt (and subsequent crash). Adding the full folder for, as you can see, some of your listed files being empty.

I'm not sure how much we can help - you're on an unsupported distro here, and your Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-2120 CPU is below the minimum requirement on Linux, the Intel® Core™ i3-3250 .

Try updating that Nvidia driver
AND unload every other app you can, and make sure your paging/swap space is at least 32gb.

If that doesn't help, hopefully the upcoming patch mentioned above will do it for you.

Good luck!

I hope this will be soon. I haven't been able to play since 1.7 landed and the hotfix didn't do anything.

Running an AMD 5800X, with a 6700XT and with 32GB of RAM (of which the vast majority is unused when launching the game).

What distro are you on? Do you have the identical symptoms to the others posting here, including the out of memory error?

Can we get the files I ask for in post #10 please?

The same problem:
Code:
Assertion failed: Out of (fixed) memory

I've tried changing settings and have uploaded dumps when the message pops up after the game crashes.

The information you asked for is attached but Steam's sysinfo isn't the most accurate thing in the world. Latest stable drivers and Kernel version if that's what you're checking for. Incidentally, on Linux, Paradox has been following XDG convention as of a couple of years ago for its games, so relevant directory isn't in ~/Documents (if it exits) but in ~/.local/share/

I see, I guess we'll have to wait for that mentioned patch, it seems. Sorry!
