My game crashes everytime I try to load a game or start a new game I have tried everything and it still crashes. It was working fine and then all of a sudden it just stopped working and hasn't worked since. Any ideas would be great.

Please try updating your video driver http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvista_x86_178.24_whql.html

If that doesn't help, try a complete reinstall: First move any valued save games elsewhere. Then uninstall the game, and then manually delete the game directory - this is important. Reinstall Rome - if you use Vista, it's best to choose a new directory like c:\games\rome instead of the suggested path. Then install the 1.3 patch OR VV, and make 100% sure you point it to the same path the game installed into (eg c:\games\rome or whatever you used above).

I updated my video card and reinstalled the game to c:\games\rome and it still wouldn't work.

Try editing settings.txt as follows, changes in bold:

fullScreen=no
shadows=no
shadowSize=1024
multisampling=0
anisotropicFiltering=0
gamma=50.000000
}
sound_fx_volume=100.000000
music_volume=100.000000
scroll_speed=100.000000
camera_rotation_speed=50.000000
zoom_speed=50.000000
mouse_speed=50.000000
master_volume=-1
ambient_volume=50.000000
mapRenderingOptions={
renderTrees=no
}

If that helps, you can undo those changes one by one to see which was the problem.

If it doesn't help, given it was working, maybe you've had a hardware fault occur. Can you describe exactly what happens when you start up a fresh game? Where exactly does it get to? Any errors or messages?

I tried changing those settings but it didn't help.
The game will freeze when you click play.
The map will come up but you wont be able to do anything.

Ok, well yes, you may well have suffered a hardware fault. Do you have another machine around to try it on?

No. I tried it on my other computer but it didnt support the pixel shader.

Well all I can suggest is either trying it in a different machine, or putting a new/different video card into this machine, as a test. The fact it used to work and now doesn't, even with a fresh install, indicates a hardware failure somewhere, and my bet is the video card.

I have the exact same problem...

And Ive tried the game on another computer, and it works fine. It just crashes on mine. Which is stupid since this pc is actually as good as the one it worked on...

Video card is an updated geforce M9400 GS, and a hardware failure is highly unlikely since Rome:Total War is working fine like all other games. Besides, this is happening to me since i got it, and i never got to play the game on this computer in the first place.

Please start your own fresh thread, with full system and problem details, thanks.
