I have UPHQ version. Version 1.2 patch.

Computer is a Athlon 64 3700+ with 1 GB ram.

The host and other players informed me that they lost my connection and that theirs did not crash.

The game never crashes when I play single player.

There were a total of 8 people connected to the host. I have cable internet with 1mbps upload and 4 mbps download speed.

Is this just a fact of life I must live with?

Please let me know what I must do to fix this.

All MP related question in the MP forum please.

If you are running any other programs or services (using network in this case) during HoI2 MP, try to suppress them while you play. They can interfere with HoI2 the way we "ordinary ones" cannot imagine.

Other than that, I have nothing else in mind to suggest. It is hard to do so w/o knowledge of you sw environment. Try to experiment a bit with configuration of your computer, i.e. mainly with running software. Good luck.

Yes, Bocephus, all MP issues here where the other players can give you tech support. Paradox mods don't give tech support for MP issues.

Did your game CTD, or did it just say that everybody left the game? The CTD is a fact of life, primarily related to lag/latency. The other is some kind of weird bug that hits certain game sessions. If everyone has a nice broadband link and decent computers, and the host has a great broadband link and computer, it usually is a lot better, but you'll still get lag and lag-related issues, because the computers and links of the players are only a small part of the equation. The data has to travel across the internet from player to host and from host to player. If you use the metaphor of an interstate highway system, you can visualize what happens. There can be a whole lot of traffic out there, particulary surrounding major cities, and when you get a lot of traffic, you get a lot of traffic jams. So, even if you have a great car and the best on-ramp available to modern engineering, you're still going to get stuck in bumper-to-bumper, stop-and-go traffic (especially on I-64 between Williamsburg and Norfolk!!).

Playing MP involves dealing with a lot of crashes and reloads, messed up downloads, restarts, time in the lobby, etc. Many sessions, you'll spend more time chatting with the other players than actually playing. You can make some real good friends. It takes a lot of patience, but when you are in with a good group, it's great fun, and the war is so intense. To me, it's worth it. The game is great in MP. It's a waste of time playing SP, because it's just so easy. Join the war.

Playing multiplayer more or less means running it at "slow". Anything faster and you're dealing with lag and crashes.

Well, that's a bit simplistic. In my now fairly wide experience with HOI 2 multiplayer, a 36 game generally can run on normal or even above normal during peacetime, depending on the group. During war, most of the time slow is best, as a lot goes on and it allows you to manage your theatres and handle production/research issues without pausing. But during calm periods, below normal frequently is maintainable.

I have had both problems. It will say the host or player has disconnected. Which I realize is the internet connection.

Other times (which I was referring to here) the game says "...it must close" and crashes to the desktop.

Thanks for your help. I will try your suggestions.

The CTD usually is lag also. Sometimes it can be something like splitting a fleet. Also, annexes and liberations done without pausing frequently cause CTDs. And other things. Multiplayer teaches magical thinking.
