Boy, am I glad that mine at least finally does run (and interestingly, I've not seen anyone else state that they have a serious time lag rather than a complete failure...?).

Because based on what I'm reading so far, it's hard to understand what SF could do other than drop back to another form of copy protection and replace all our disks. Which strikes me as unlikely. I don't really understand the issues surrounding copy protection...maybe there IS some resolution other than replacing either the disk or the device reading it. If so, I'll be fascinated to see what Patric can work out with SF! The SF responses so far have certainly been less than helpful...

tech support

Hmmm... I received an email from SF tech support telling me it was my Sound Card drivers and that I needed to update them. Sadly, I've already tried this. Looks like this game falls into the 'well, it sounds fun.' catagory. I just hope EB lets me return it. I hate being negative, but if it IS the copy protection, it's costing SF sales and for a small niche title, that's gotta hurt. Better do your homework better next time, guys.

It is Safedisc - Age of Kings had the same problem

I can definetely confirm that this is a Safedisc issue. The only know solutions to this are:

1) replace CD
2) Create a new EXE with a different copy protection scheme

Age of Kings created a new exe that skipped the copy protection step.

The expansion rewrote it so that it worked.

I would suggest the Paradox folks get in contact with Ensamble Studios or Microsoft to figure a way around this problem - IT CAN BE DONE!!!!!!
