sometimes on 1 jan. when its gonna autosave, then i get the message: runtime error!

program: ...am/steamapps/common/europa universals/romegame.exe

what should i do about this?
 
First, try using the Steam client to verify your download, it often fixes problems. If that doesn't help:

Please run DXDIAG, Save All Info, and post dxdiag.txt here (first delete everything after the Sound Devices section so it will fit). Also post your Rome/settings.txt and Rome/logs/system.log files. Note that if you use Vista/Win7 and have installed the game in the suggested folder c:\Program Files\Paradox Interactive\Rome\, the active versions of these last two files will have been redirected by Vista/win7 to a non-system directory, like c:\Users\[name]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Paradox Interactive\Europa Universalis - Rome\, where [name] is your Vista/Win7 user name. You may have to search your C: drive for them.

Did doing the verify with the Steam client find anything to update?

Your video driver needs updating. You could check with Acer, but here are the nVidia links:

If that doesn't help, edit your settings.txt file:

master_volume=-1
renderTress=no

This will simplify the graphics and disable sound, let me know if that helps at all.

i did the verify stuff on the game, it dose update, but when the game crash then i have to do it over again.
how do i update my video driver?

it dident work when i edited my setting txt

You need to know whether you have Vista 32bit or 64bit. In Win7 you go to Control Panel\System and Security\System, and System Type will say which, I don't have Vista but I would assume it is similar.

Then click on the correspondily link I supplied above. A file with a l;ong name ending in .exe will download to your PC, make sure you know where it ends up - the Desktop is easy to find. Once downloaded, double-click on it to run it and just do what it says.

Good, so click on the 32bit link I posted above and update your video driver as I described, hopefully that will help your problem.
 
i did the updating, but it still happens at an excat time, i think

No, those errors are normal and everyone gets them.

Can we see your new dxdiag.txt, system.log and settings.txt files please?
 
I just give up...I have read just about everything that I can that has been posted, or that I can ascertain has been posted..

I take the dxdiag and send to desktop and it won't open it says it can't open it or it is a corrupted file.

I cannot open the programme I have tried it in XP my drivers say that they are updated. I have made sure the service pack is updated.

Now instead of crashing, the programme won't get past the Map thing, when I hit ctrl/alt/delete the task manager shows the CPU at 100%.

I am running Vista 64 on a Toshiba Laptop operating with dual AMD.

I did run the programme a while, then went through numerous crashes and the various similar "access denied," then seemingly everything else described on here.

Having spent the best part of Sat/Sun and Monday trying to effect a fix, I can't think of another thing to do to get it to work.....

We only need it from the start down to include the Sound Devices section, you can delete the rest.
