Game crashes with Surrender of Germany Event

I'm playing SP in a patched up version of Doomsday (no mods) and no matter what country I am playing, when I get to the Germany Surrenders event or the Redraw the Map of Europe Event (?) the game crashes and exits. Any fixes? I've tried going back and arriving at the veent again. Tried different nations etc. Nothing works so far.
