wasnt sure what you need so heres my dx diag

I have a completely identical problem.

This is literally the worst experience I have ever had with a new game and I am completely turned off of this company already.

From what i've seen on the forums it really doesn't look like this is uncommon...

when you say "crashes when I click on anything", does that mean menu buttons as well, or just units on the map? The crash on units on the map is a driver issue we are working on resolving.

5 minutes start time seems long. Are you on a laptop? their hard-drivers are usually pretty slow, also more than 1GB RAM will speed up loading. Rome uses a lot of files, so defragging the disk its on might be a good idea too.

oh, and its holidays here at the moment, so replies might take a bit longer than normal.

That DXDIAG looks OK. Please post your settings.txt and system.log files.

please start your own thread with full problem and system details, as you see we ask for here. Thanks.

Seems to be working a bit better now but still crashes after about 5 minutes on the actual game and sometimes before.

I have had no problems with Vista and the full game. The demo however...

I installed rome with "run as an administrator"

I have played with zero crashes.

I don't know if that solves your problem but try it.

ok the only problem i get now is a sudden random crash and a message saying the memory could not be "read" or the memory could not be "written".

What the funk???

Also when it crashes the task manager tells me its using in excess of 500'000k of memory which is a lot right?

Mine crashes when I try to change the year I'd like to start in. I can start a game without changing the year, but it will crash after playing for a few minutes. I tried updating directX and all my drivers, nothing helped.
