Game crashes

Fresh install, 1.2 patch, the game will crash when trying to autosave. I've reproduced this error 3 times in a row, including after restarting my computer and the game. Each time it occurs when I play Illyria.

Specs
Directx 9.0c
XP SP 2
Pentium E2180
Geforce 8600 GT

Fresh install of Windows with the latest nvidia drivers.

edit: update, I just tried playing as the Seleucid Empire and the same thing happened. What a joke.

*bump* I need an answer for this, this is a newly purchased game and it is not working out of the box on a fresh install of Windows.

Can we see your ROME settings.txt and system.logs files please. Also run DXDIAG, Save All Info, and post dxdiag.txt up to and including the sound devices section.
