My game crashes on me all the time. upgraded to VV and then patched it and I still get tons. I can not play for more than 2 hours without a crash. Most of the time it crashes more than that.

What it does is close the game and send me to desktop. Any advice?

Please run DXDIAG, Save All Info, and post dxdiag.txt here (first delete everything after the Sound Devices section so it will fit). Also post your Rome/settings.txt and Rome/logs/system.log files. Note that if you use Vista and have installed the game in the suggested folder c:\Program Files\Paradox Interactive\Rome\, the active versions of these last two files will have been redirected by Vista to a non-system directory, like c:\users\[name]\appdata\local\virtualstore\Program Files\Paradox Interactive\Rome\. You may have to search your C: drive for them.

Ok, I will try and decifer that in the morning when I am more awake. :wacko:

As for vista I am not using that. I am using the Home version of the release right before of windows. (Man I really must be tired if I am blanking on the name right now.)

Thank you for the quick response. And I will try and do what you ask.

Please update your video driver http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_182.50_whql.html

If that doesn't help, edit your settings.txt as follows, changes in bold:

fullScreen=no
shadows=no
shadowSize=1024
multisampling=0
anisotropicFiltering=0
gamma=50.000000
}
sound_fx_volume=66.000000
music_volume=28.000000
scroll_speed=100.000000
camera_rotation_speed=50.000000
zoom_speed=50.000000
mouse_speed=50.000000
master_volume=-1
ambient_volume=50.000000
mapRenderingOptions={
renderTrees=no
}
If that helps at all you can try undoing those changes one by one to see which did it.

With it now in Windowed mode, can you see any errors or messages in Windows when the crash happens?

Can you describe exactly what happens in the crash? Does it ever happen soon after you start playing, or only after you have played for some time?

ok, I guess I should have explained a bit more. I can not play it in window mode because It will not let me start time or click on any of the buttons at the bottom part of the game window. and I can not seem to shrink it.

as to the rest it is mostly after I have played for a bit, but it also does it right after starting sometimes.

OK, no real ideas then. Now you've updated your video driver let's try a complete reinstall. First move any valued save games elsewhere. Uninstall both games, and manually delete the game directory. Then install Rome, VV and 2.1 each immediately after the other. Now start a fresh game and see how you go with it, before you try one of your old saves.

Please Google for and install SPEEDFAN. Record your CPU and Video chip temperatures before you start playing, then again after say 1 hour.
