I just bought CKII Songs of Albion DLC, CKII Songs of Faith DLC, CKII Song of the Holy Land DLC, Crusader Kings II African Units Pack, Crusader Kings II Songs of the Caliph, Crusader Kings II Sword of Islam. I was playing the game this morning before I bought them the game worked fine, after I bought them the game would crash when it starts to run. I have Crusader Kings 2 of steam.

Welcome onboard. Same problem. Perhaps something's wrong with Steam and will come back to normal. Try right-clicking CK2 in your Steam library, then "Properties", then "Local Files", then "Verify Integrity of Local Game Cache". Sometimes this helps. But not for me today.

I'm having the same problem with the Gamersgate version. Bought Sword of Islam and some of the other DLCs and now the game crashes when trying to start.

FWIW, my log file says '[virtualfilesystem.cpp:570]: Could not open file: gfx/models/Mapindicators/Muslim_Steward.xac', which makes sense since the file does not exist.

If you guys are playing with mods, it's possible that's the issue.
The scope and scale of changes in CK2's 1.06 patch means that there are several commonly mod-altered files that now contradict data the game absolutely expects to have. The result is an instant CTD on startup, with no error message.

I'm still trying to narrow down exactly what files are the issue, but if you are using mods, until the authors update them, there's nothing to be done but to either start new games without them (make sure to uncheck all mods in the launcher!) or wait until mod authors catch up to 1.06 and Sword of Islam.

Doomdark also mentioned a small bug with the initial 1.06 patch involving a missing file. It's possible this is the cause, and Steam takes longer to push out hotfixes than GG or Paradox, as a result of their verification process.

Hopefully this helped a bit! Good luck!

Me too. Game used to work fine; after SoI, it keeps crashing at random (but very frequent) times. The error.log file reports:
[texturehandler.cpp:169]: Couldn't find texture file: .
[texturehandler.cpp:169]: Couldn't find texture file: .
[texturehandler.cpp:169]: Couldn't find texture file: .
[texturehandler.cpp:169]: Couldn't find texture file: .
[texturehandler.cpp:169]: Couldn't find texture file: .
and sometimes also something like "generic_click_sound_4" missing, but not always. I have tried deleting and reinstalling everything (no mods or old game saves), checking local file integrity, launching in admin mode (Win7 x64)... no luck. I have the latest (stable, non-beta) video drivers.
Here's my dxdiag.

Sorry, I should have mentioned - I didn't buy the AU pack, so that can't be causing the problem, unless SoI actually relies on some of those files, but that seems doubtful.
Here's a new error.log, this time I managed to play for a while but got a CtD after resigning and pressing 'return to menu':

[texturehandler.cpp:169]: Couldn't find texture file: .
[texturehandler.cpp:169]: Couldn't find texture file: .
[texturehandler.cpp:169]: Couldn't find texture file: .
[texturehandler.cpp:169]: Couldn't find texture file: .
[texturehandler.cpp:169]: Couldn't find texture file: .
[sound.cpp:232]: Sound naval_battle_background not found.
[sound.cpp:232]: Sound naval_battle_background not found.

Here's a particularly rich example of missing files (according to error.log):

[sound.cpp:232]: Sound generic_click_04 not found.
[sound.cpp:232]: Sound generic_click_04 not found.
[sound.cpp:232]: Sound generic_click_04 not found.
[sound.cpp:232]: Sound generic_click_04 not found.
[texturehandler.cpp:169]: Couldn't find texture file: .
[texturehandler.cpp:169]: Couldn't find texture file: .
[texturehandler.cpp:169]: Couldn't find texture file: .
[sound.cpp:232]: Sound naval_battle_background not found.
[sound.cpp:232]: Sound naval_battle_background not found.
[sound.cpp:232]: Sound transferregimentship not found.
[sound.cpp:232]: Sound transferregimentship not found.

[sound.cpp:232]: Sound transferregimentship not found.

[sound.cpp:232]: Sound transferregimentship not found.
[sound.cpp:232]: Sound transferregimentship not found.
[sound.cpp:232]: Sound transferregimentship not found.
[sound.cpp:232]: Sound transferregimentship not found.
[sound.cpp:232]: Sound transferregimentship not found.
[sound.cpp:232]: Sound transferregimentship not found.
[sound.cpp:232]: Sound transferregimentship not found.
[sound.cpp:232]: Sound transferregimentship not found.

This CtD happened right after my third clean install, having deleted both the steam\ck2 and my documents\ck2 dirs [Edit: and of course rebooted before re-installing].

I note that my steam\ck2\sound directory does contain the files "Naval_Battle_Background.wav" and "genericclick4.wav" - yes, the first one with a different capitalization and the second one without the underscores and the 0; there's no trace of anything resembling "transferregimentship".

[Edit the 2nd:] The checksum is of course YYEV, but that doesn't change even if I add some 'dummy' sound files with those three names to my sound dir, so I guess that just doesn't get checked.

I should also mention that although I can get crashes from clicking on just about anything at seemingly random times, one way that has yet to fail to produce a CtD is to switch between save files: start the game, go to the save game list, select one, select another -> CtD. Also, as I mentioned, returning to the menu after resigning has yet to result in anything other than a CtD.

I doubt those are the source of your crash, as the game has always had a few errors like that without causing such issues. You could test that theory by making files by the names said to be missing, so copy genericclick4.wav to generic_click_04.wav and so on.

The fact is your issue is different from the one caused by the DLC that this thread is about, so I'd suggest you start your own fresh thread with full problem and system details.

Oh, ok sorry. That's quite possibly the case. I had not had any problems until getting SoI today, so I just assumed that was the cause, but it may not have been. I'll give it a few more tries to see if I get those errors even with the files present. Still, there's nothing I can think to do about "Couldn't find texture file: ."
