I've had occasional crashes when running the game at full speed, normally this isn't that much of an issue since it happens very infrequently and when tab up or down or use a different monitor. However, the real issue is when the game crashed on auto saving when I'm not doing anything that should warrant it, since it also seems to corrupt my iron man save file. This has happened two times.
I suspect the issue might be with steam, since steam also crashed right after in both instances. First time I shrugged and just started a new game, but this save file I have quite some time invested in.
Any way to make the save file work again? I assume the fix for the crashes is to not use the cloud saves.

I've attached the save file in question downloaded from the cloud and the DxDiag export.

I'm going to assume there is no way for a save to be fixed, just had this problem with my Ironman Roman Empire, game crashed during an autosave, that game is RIP, and it was going really well, I am sad now, had a massive family, global powerhouse, all gone because cloud saves, and how Ironman saves work.

yeah i just lost a 20hour ironman save it says the save it on a different verison of the game now or corrupted. and the save isnt even in the document folder, so who knows what happened to mine

Sorry for these issues! I suggest you only play non-Ironman with local saves for the time being.

This exact same thing just happened to me. Started as Duchess Matilda and managed to found the Roman Empire by 1270. Game crashed right after an autosave in 1437 and now it says my save file is corrupted and unplayable. Not mad, just disappointed that I'm gonna have to essentially do all that again to get the endgame trophy

Happened to me too right now. I was 20 or 30 years away from game end :(

Same thing for me. How big was you legacy? I had around 2000 living members; I suspect these big clan families being the main reason why autosave took soem seconds in the later game - and maybe finally lead to a crash.

Edit:
* I can actually use the save game from the OP just fine.
* My Steam too had a restart at or directly aftert CK3 crashed.
* Attached also my save file (which is completely empty) and a screenshot shortly before it crashed

Edit 2:
Seems I cannot upload my empty save file. But well, it is empty. 0kb.

Please only play non-Ironman and local saves until these issues can be addressed.

Sorry about that!

Solution / Work-a-round:

Hey everyone, I found out that disabling cloud sync (properties of the game in steam) after this corruption, then going to the CK3 documents folder (Documents > Paradox Interactive > Crusader Kings III) and dragging the last_save file from there to the Save Games folder (in the same folder) fixes this issue. I was able to play my Ironman save again (and achievements still work!).

I imagine this only works if your last session/save was your ironman. Hopefully not the case because this can only work if you get lucky like me or something else. If you reactivate cloud sync, the save that is corrupted is still there BUT you have your other save. Don't know how this will work but will update if something messes up.

EDIT: You do not need to disable/re-enable cloud synchronization. You just need to grab the last save and place it in your save games folder.

Hope this helps!

This worked for me thank you so much.
